[dev1082] The (un)Official Mount System Thread

As far as personal mounts go, I would like to see only chocobos. There is quite a bit you can do with them such as alter size, color (white/black chocobo please?), add armor, etc. If player-ran companies had their own emblems, maybe you could assign that emblem in one form or another to your own personal/company chocobo? :D

One thing I personally think WoW overdid was pet/mount collection, some of them got so ridiculous like the sparkle-pony from the cash shop that everyone bought.

I would like to keep mounts a little more Final Fantasy themed please, though if you do add in other personal mounts, just don't go overboard! ^_^

I agree that it should be chocobos and chocobos only for mounts. Anything else will continue to move away from the Final Fantasy feel. However I'm definitely all for the idea of a genuine breeding system similar to that of FFVII, but with more in-depth variations.

i would like to be able to put a bumper sticker on my chocobo that says hows my riding 1800-chocobo

I also vote for Chocobos Only to start with.

And a Chocobo Breeding System like Final Fantasy VII, to customize, get rarer, faster, stronger Chocobo Mounts that way. They can dovetail that system with a whole new Gold Saucer Chocobo Racing Sub-Game, which could be a good form of entertainment, a Gil Sink, and a way to earn rare items all in one place. :)

Chocobos that upgrade to flying after some time (these should be a challenge & memorable moment to obtain). Also, consider Fat Chocobo!

Highly disagree. Motorcycles, Boats & Airships would be 100% Final Fantasy feel as well.

I agree that going to the level of WoW mounts is a little ridiculous but that's the other extreme. The first being only having ONE creature to ride. Again I ask can someone give a legitimate argument for the exclusion of anything else but Chocobos aside from simply being afraid of change?

The series is constantly moving forward and adding things that weren't seen in previous games. This game as an MMO could greatly benefit from a variety of different ridable creatures that would allow people a greater degree of customization based on their personality or play style. I think restricting it to things that are logically ridable is fine (no Bombs, Wights, Cactuar, Gnats etc...). Though things like Drakes, Goats, Crabs or Dodos (Dodobo!) would make sense as they're big enough and logically one could ride on them. If they're going to add customization in terms of armor and accessories to Chocobos let us have it for all of them!

For your sake here is a list of other modes of transportation form the Final Fantasy Series other than chocobos..

And that's just off the top of my head.. Now please, someone explain to me how Chocobo's are the only reasonable Mount for FFXIV..

None all FFs are suitable for all those vehicles/mounts. For example, i would not like to see motorcycles or helicopters or similar "high-tech" stuff in FF14 sincerely, because the world is more "medieval" and they would be out of place.
