Apologies! I totally misread that, thought you were on AST relic to take a break from tanking. My bad. :) I wish you good luck with you light ^.~
I learnt today that if you're unhappy with the WAR in your Vault run, who is doing small pulls because 1) it's been a while since she was in the Vault, 2) it's been a while since she played WAR, and 3) she has never played WAR in the Vault before, the best thing to do is to just run ahead and pull some mobs back to where the rest of the party is.
Surely, this WAR who isn't comfortable in this dungeon, with this job, who isn't synced gear or level-wise, will have no problems whatsoever in dealing with your idiocy and trying to take aggro off you. Nope, nothing can possibly go wrong with this plan. Why bother even asking the WAR to do bigger pulls?
Props to the SCH in that run, I guess, for keeping the idiot BRD alive. And for the record, I didn't even choose to be in the Vault, Leveling roulette decided to dump me in there.
I dunno guys, I've run into more and more tanks/healers blowing the LB at stupid times, and it just fills me with rage sometimes that we gotta fart around for 5 more minutes because of a troll (sometimes much longer since the party is gimp in the first place, and the DPS LB would have helped speed things up tremendously). Had a run yesterday, Everything going ok, my sis on MNK, about to use LB at 20% on Haukke last boss. Healer LB goes off seconds before, and no one needed the heals. :/
Also tanks popping LB on random trash mobs as soon as it's available. >.>; Like dude, it's not one of your cooldowns, just stop.
So I'm doing the Zodiac relic thing (reasons), and I needed the boss for Lost City. I love the music for that place, so I queue in. We get to last boss, and I mark the doors which work as intended. No one asked, I just did it. All good. But I didn't see lil symbols again and had to heal through the second big attack. Unfortunately, even with Medica II/Divine Seal etc all but tank died to this the third time it hit, but no worries, boss was at 5 health, tank whacked the boss, and...
... you have to be alive when the boss dies to get credit for the book thing.
Back into the DF...
I came back after 3 years. I was sitting at Leviathan HM on my MSQ. <queue suspenseful music>. I still remember doing Titan and Garuda HM via DF... <shudders>
I queue and it pops almost instantly. I go in expecting Godzilla. I tell myself, "remember: heal, heal, heal.". Leviathan was more like the killer bunny from the Holy Grail. Cleric Stance on and full DPS. It was over before I knew it, and I walked away with five commendations.
:D
Been getting asked to give people in DF a lot of hugs lately and I'm like okay then I enjoy hugs but it was getting to the point were it was getting a bit weird, I mean yeah my character is a big cuddly roegadyn but you know...
I completely forgot I set my search info to "Warning! Friendly Roegadyn Alert! You may receive hugs! <3" >.>
Was actually getting worried that random people were just being a bit too friendly / creepers D:
This is what happens when you stop playing for 6 months....
ikr? Sometimes I'll ask at the start if they mind if I use the LB at-X-time when I know there's a bunch of mobs coming. Most say no, so whatever, we'll use it on bosses like we should, but I know sometimes this can speed up a run by a lot and some people prefer it that way. But with tank it's like, Oookay, you're the only one taking minimal damage at this point. Thanks for wasting it. :/
Just got out of normal Stone Vigil on NIN, and I swear either people are getting to me worse lately, or I just want to strangle people a lot. Am I becoming an elitists? Judge for yourself.
Tank: No Shield Oath until I remind him. Slow to pull.
Healer: Accessories mostly level 1 weathered gear. Can't control MP usage, causing us to frequently stop between mobs so they can recover MP (I think this is the first time I've ever seen anyone say to hold on for MP outside of battle.)
I assume those two, plus the other NIN were in a group together. They were all bloody idiots.
Second boss, I have to tell the tank not to fight in the middle. He backs up, but only far enough back that he's where the room meets the doorway. I take care of Isgebind. Healer dies just under 20%. I use LB. And what happened next was almost surreal.
The NIN yelled at me for using the LB. You want to know why?
We were supposed to save it for the final boss.
Okay, I get that, but it's not like we won't get the bar to full at the boss anyways. But that's not the whole reason.
We were supposed to save the LB so we could LB the final boss twice.
Has anyone heard something so absurd? Is it even possible? Is two one-bar LBs better than one two-bar?
It gets better. The healer told me I missed the LB. I didn't. I checked my log. 2054 damage.
So this is the part where I may be elitist, but I can't resist sharing it because this cemented the NIN's idiocy.
I made a comment about them needing gear improvements. They told me that I should look at my own gear (including the healer basically saying their gear is fine), the NIN adding "nice shirt." I'm wearing the level 40 woolen shirt HQ, which is on-par with non-dungeon NQs available at the dungeon's level cap (I'd be better wearing the HQ of the higher stuff, I know, but I digress.).
He was talking about my glamour. Seems the look of my glamour shows my gear is bad. I was wearing the survival shirt as glamour.
Almost wonder what they'd say about my i260/270 tank songstress glamour.
I just can't wrap my head around how people like this function at all...like....just.....what.
The whole tank thing I've been noticed as a trend lately (in dungeons were its applicable) I have to constantly remind them to turn their Defiance/Grit/Shield Oath on because they pull everything and then lose enmity 5 seconds later, with the healer becoming minced meat and due to them getting severely interrupted trying to cast, they inevitably drop while the tank will be just stood their tanking the one mob they've managed to keep hold of.
Now majority of the time, the next pull they'll put it on when I ask them nicely and sometimes they apologise but other times they just plain don't and don't say anything in chat and keep trying to do the dungeon their way. Then these ones have the gall to turned around half way through and tell us to stop generating so much enmity. -___-
I admit, I slip at times. Usually when I go into a non-60 dungeon. If someone reminds me, I'm like "I'm a derp. Thank you and please forgive me.
There was one other thing I forgot to mention in my post. We got to the final boss, and they did /sit. All of them. Had to be 2-3 mins. My best guess is they expected me to quit. They could've easily won that since they all hated me anyways and I told them to go and kick me if they don't like people who know how the game works.
In retrospect, it may have been worth it to drop out. Bye bye limit gauge!
https://puu.sh/uPXyE/636a8617ab.png
According to this, no, and it would make sense that LB2 would be stronger for obvious reasons so I have every inclination to believe it.
Either way, I wonder if maybe they meant that you were supposed to save your LB so you got a LB2 for the boss? They might have thought they'd only have LB1 in the end but I have often used LB at the very start of the second boss in that dungeon and fully recharged the bar just in time for the final boss, and judging from your story, DPS sounds like it should have been slow enough to easily make that possible. Though one thing POSSIBLY to their credit that strikes me is, if you waited until 20% before LB'ing then it does make it more unlikely that you'd have gotten LB2 in time, at least not until after the point that even a LB1 would have finished the final boss off. There's no real benefit to waiting until an enemy is low on health as it just delays the amount of time before you can start refilling the gauge again ^^
We did end up with LB2 for the final boss, and early enough that it didn't just die when it was used. I even made a snippy remark in response when we hit the full bar, which is where I learned they meant to use two LBs.
The whole thing is just insane. I really wonder if someone's made an Eorzean version of Punk'd.
Yeah it's called PoT ' D
After seeing a Tank fail in DF around 3 times already I decided to make a Joke.
Me: Guess he could not Tank the heat.
Tank: Really? A Pun?
Me: You prefer I type screaming words while constantly typing profanity at how many times you died already?
Tank: Point taken.
I had to tank again. As Ninja.
This time it was Hullbreaker HM.
The tank just gave up eventually and stayed in Deliverance.
Their iLevel was lower than mine, but even I can hold aggro as a 256 tank when there are DPS with 270 around.
This guy was just lazy. Or new. Or both.
That is not a "yes. I was using them when they were available." :P
So either A) When you tank at a lower ilvl, you are lucky enough to be with DPS that do it properly (use shade walker, use quelling strikes). or B) They are so bad at their Jobs they don't need to use them. C) Maybe you actually can do it, but everyone knows it's often a struggle for the average tank if there's more than a 10 ilvl difference, so this is basically some not-very-subtle bragging about your own tank skills compared to the poor guy in your story.
At the very least I think he should get props for staying in tank stance when he realized he didn't have the gear/skill to stance dance.
They wouldn't stay in Defiance all the time, sometimes they'd even pull with Deliverance on, I don't know if they were trying to stance dance (which they shouldn't even try with such an ilevel difference) or if they just were generally confused.
Also, it was exactly what I meant. I used Shadewalker all the time, but especially during the periods when it was on cooldown, they'd lose aggro super fast. At the end they stayed in his DPS stance and didn't seem to even try anymore. Not sure if I should give them props for that.
Additionally, I wasn't trying to brag about my tanking skills, I consider myself to be a noob when it comes to tanking so it's more of an "if I can do it, anyone can do it" thing.
Then why not elaborate this all in the first post instead of leaving it up to the imagination? ;3 We aren't mind-readers~ (my apologies for misinterpreting your post - I misread deliverance/defiance).
Hmm, have you looked in the tank forums recently? He might have got some funny ideas from there. :/ They all seem to insist that WAR can hold in DPS stance, no questions. Pull with it all the time and just tell the nay-sayers to gtfo. So yeah, I've noticed a lot of amateurs taking that advice as gospel.
/shrug if you can't hold it anyway, might as well help kill the shite faster? LOL. Maybe I'm just more tolerant because if it gets this bad I can just summon titan-egi and carry on. ^^; I hope you gave him some pointers at least (or a good slap-upside-the-head wake up call), lots of people are just ignorant, not intentionally bad.
So... I was grinding relic's lights for warrior and got my 10th runes and queuing for various HW trials..
I got myself into nidhogg with 1 or 2 new healers and the WHM dced at our first attempt, we wiped..
On our 2nd attempt, we pressed thru nidhogg until about 20% or so when the AST died from the aoe (hot wings) i think, and the WHM was raising the AST and didnt notice the positional and got cleaved by the fire breath thingy.. With no healers to heal, we were only 4-5 at around 10% or so and one by one the DPS died until there were only me, the MT, and 1 bard who lived.. The MT died, i took aggro.. Akh Morn happens and it took the life of the DPS while I timed my holmgang well and survived thru it, popped equilibrium and thrill after and with my dying HP, I managed to win the battle with only 1261 HP left on my side.. I got 3 commendations for that heroic battle and finished my relic's last runes as well..
So someone please tell me if I'm weird here or If I've missed some meta I'm not aware of but anyway.
Go into EX roulette with a friend, both of us dps, we end up in Sohm Al.
Anyway the run is going well no issues there but me being curious I like to look at other people's gear.
The White Mage's left side was mostly Piety V were it could fit and her entire right side was all Vitality IV to V materia <--- uhm.... why Vit?
And I honestly don't know if this is still a thing but the Dark Knights entire right side was all Strength V materia? <--- I thought this stopped being a thing?
.___. someone please do tell me if I'm wrong with thinking these a bit of out of the ordinary.
Dunno about the WHM, but for tanks, they get attack power from both STR and VIT equally. VIT also gives hp, so it's preferred over STR.
For the right side you can go fending accessories with STR materia, or striking accessories with VIT materia. At ilvl 270, that would be a choice between 88 VIT + 15 STR, or 78 STR + 15 VIT. Note the higher primary stat on fending accessories.
There are some who would argue that the secondary would outweigh the 10-point difference -if- the fending has parry on it, but that wasn't what you were seeing.
For tanks, vitality and strength have the same stat weight. Since vitality is already cap on fending accessories, strength is the way to go.
For the healer, he was probly progressing in Alexander. The extra vitality can help survivability.
Final steps of faith.
- Tank pulling
- Other tank sword oath and dps
- both healers dies
- adds phase started, dps tank start dancing manderville
- while people dying, party chat drama: omfg noob tank use shield oath / OMG NOOB / ascii art for the words "shield oath"
- at restart, votekick commenced for the manderville tank
- manderville tank reminds everyone the healers were both down before adds phase, votekick does not pass
- second try, one healer dies before adds, other healer doesn't keep up with healing, wipe
- the died healer votekicked and dismissed
- party disbands
in baelsar's wall with a marauder that pulled the whole place whenever possible, pops blood for blood, spams overpower, uses invigorate and writes on chat -git gud-
one of the 2 dps wanted to kick him but i refused and the other dps too seemed to have decline
i was healing TT_____TT
we managed to clear the dung tho, was exciting
Not really a DF tale, but something really noobish that happened yesterday. I was talking with my wife while playing FF14 on my laptop. Lately I rerolled DPS from tanking and been leveling all the way to 50 in POTD. So I go into ishgard, buy the DRG vendor gear level 50, change weapon since I was warrior and queue. All's well until I realize I forgot to equip my DRG stone. I equip it and wait on the queue.... 20 minutes later "You cannot join the duty because you've switched class"
I felt.... noobish
Some people in this game genuinely confuse me, the sheer lack of patience some people have with this game is just mind boggling at times. (Though I am fully aware there has been many, many threads combating this issue with both sides of the argument getting into a never ending war. But with this one that happened below, this one just seems extremely selfish. Considering the fight lasts a couple minutes.)
Do Trial roulette, we get it in to Leviathan, there is a new sprout and they are watching the cutscene.
Seemingly very offended by this new sprout, one of the tanks instantly leaves.
A minute later a healer leaves also offended and starts saying. "omg such a waste of time, we dont need to wait another tank for 30 mins."
The moment she left, a new tank arrived a minute later along with a new healer.
So the Tank gave himself a penalty cause of a single new leaf and then the healer just left due to not wanting to wait 2 minutes for a new tank in a roulette you rarely wait long in, especially since its not long after reset so tons of people are currently doing it.
Ah yeah forgot the penalty only hits once x3 but either way her outburst was a bit much, it just felt really ironic that the second she left the replacements arrived. :c
A little patience doesn't kill anyone D: I understand completely after 5 minutes then yeah its fine, go ahead and leave. But before that will never not seem like a dick move to me.
It just seemed more unfair on the new leaf than anything :/

Was it crafted gear per chance? Many raiders meld VIT to their accessories regardless of job because the 250 gear set makes it difficult to survive certain mechanics. For instance, less then 22k HP means Mega Holy and Holy Bleed will almost certainly kill you. Even at 20k, you need serious mitigation. Since loot allotment in most statics typically goes DPS > Tanks > Healers so groups can push phases, healers need the extra VIT as they won't be gearing up much for a while. On the tank side of things, STR scales significantly higher than any secondary stat. As tanks benefit from both STR and VIT now, melding the former to your accessories is a bigger boost than crit or det would be.
Leveling roulette. Me (SCH) and my friend (MNK) end up in stone vigil.
Our matches are a BLM and a PLD.
My friend and me are basically carrying the dungeon (like almost always these days...) with us both doing most dps, vastly outdpsing the rest.
PLD keeps losing hate. I tell the PLD to use more Flash and to make sure he keeps aggro.
PLD still keeps losing aggro to either my friend, me or Eos. I repeatedly tell him to use more flash and to spam it. (yes Shield Oath was activated)
My MNK friend notices how the BLM is doing a completely wrong rotation and wants to help.
BLM replies "So what? its mine sub" (this is literally what he said).
We checked the BLM both and saw at least 2-3 more classes at 60 and another 2 at 50. We decide to dismiss the BLM
because we both hate the "its my sub i play how I want" crowd.
We were just before the second boss in Stone Vigil. Tank goes in, pulls the boss and then sits down doing nothing.
My MNK friend gets aggro and we end up duo'ing the boss while the tank sits down and laughs.
Midfight we get a DPS replacement for the BLM and tell him that we will have to kick the tank too as we explain why (doesnt hold hate, doesnt take advise, pulls boss and lets us duo it).
It becomes clear at this point that the tank and the BLM were friends. We finish off the boss, kick the tank out
and continue with our new formation as: MNK, SCH and BRD.
MNK turns on Fists of Earth and we work our way up to the third boss with him being the tank...I mean...might as well clear the way while waiting for a tank, right?
Right. We are on the last boss, still no tank in sight.
Alrighty, we duo'd the second boss,we can sure as hell do the last boss with 3 people.
So we did. And it actually was a way more fun run this way.
I q'd Dun Scaith as a SCH and got a party with another SCH in it.
The run went fine until the other SCH realized the forgot to pick up the quest for the Ultima plating and started yelling for a kick. I feel like if you need to leave a instance for a personal reason that's not "all of my gear is broken and my hp total is at 4k" you need to just use the leave button and take the penalty. They proceeded to leave me as the only person res-ing and healing for the next fight. Started whining for a kick again at Scathach and was ignored again. Cancelled over my crit adlo on the tank with a succor. At this point told the party "don't worry I'll still heal like normal : )" after they didn't heal at all on Ultima. Then for some bizarre reason in the middle of the fight told me "texa you need to use cleric stance to dps it does much more damage" when all that I'd been doing the past 2 fights was healing and casting DoTs because someone else wasn't pulling their weight.
