Forreal the end of this story gave me a chuckle.
Another pointless update on tanks in Stone Vigil.
Just had a tank with basically non existent accessories that didn't have sword oath up for the first half a dozen pulls.
But the accessories... No Necklace. The Dawn wristbands everyone gets. A lvl 9 ring for a Magic DPS and an eternity ring.
When I asked if they had any other accessories at all, they said "nope"
"Plus I'm farming for moogles tomes and I'm levelling"
This excuse almost made me rage quit the dungeon. I've had other tanks who say that they have their gear/accessories in a retainer and apologise for being undergeared. That's fine.
But the fact that you don't have ANY other accessories at all made me question their reality.
After a few seconds pass for me to take in the stupidity of this answer they ask "Any advice on getting better gear?"
Granted, they actually might want this advice. This is good news. I tell them about the places in all the major towns that practically throw gear at you. Thought they might be on their way to getting better gear after the dungeon was over.
However, this player had THREE classes to 70. His lowest levelled class was 36.
The majority of his classes were above 50. I absolutely shudder to think what those iLvls of those classes are.
I'm 95% sure he was trolling hardcore. But still, if he wasn't...
How can someone get THIS FAR into the game and not understand where to get better gear from?
Had a run of the Vault yesterday for 50/60. Tanking as a PLD I have a WHM, SAM, and RDM with me.
Run is going normal and I do the big pull before the second boss with the knights up to the walking horse pieces. I head in for the second boss and the WHM says "Jeez not even giving me time to recover MP?" They were about 75% and we managed to clear the boss with no issues. It was at this point I look at their gear and see that while they have a lvl 59 weapon they have all lvl 50 gear.
I make a quick comment simply just asking "Why are you in a lvl 57 dungeon with lvl 50 gear?" Absolute silence. No one says a thing, I shrug and keep going to "SINNERS MUST BE PURGED" dude.
WHM dies to an aoe at around 40% so I'm using Clemency with my CD's, the RDM on backup with vercure and we manage to down the boss with again no issues from that point.
Once again an instance of SE needing to add ilvl requirements to the first trials in the expansions. Just had a Susano run with a warrior in level 52 gear who tried to main tank, died from the first auto attack and then refused to grab the orbs as off tank and wiped us. DPS promptly left followed by a healer, sat there for 10 minutes waiting for filler and nothing, so had to abandon.
See that's the stupid part about it.
We'll have LB 2 at boss by that point but because people are so into their rotation or mechanics they forget to use it so it's just wasted.
If I'm playing as a Magic or Ranged dps I'm going to use LB 1-2 on trash mobs if the tank is pulling big. Especially if it's before the second boss. You're always at least gonna get at least one bar back by the final boss and it's just a waste to not use it otherwise.
Even after the second boss in Sirensong Sea for example I'd LB the first big pull you do with the zombies. Legit makes life easier as that's a pull that without proper CD and healing will lead to a wipe instantly. Just makes life easier for everyone (especially if you're a PLD) to aoe damage the mobs with lb and then whittle them down.
It's also weird because at least in later dungeons, trash packs are much more dangerous due to huge pulls that do half the tanks health per gcd, best to just knock them out asap. Most boss fights are a cake walk in dungeons and the real time consumer is trash packs that people are being lazy on.
*furiously takes notes on that past couple posts as I'm leveling RDM through SB right now*
