Well I was one of those people locked out of the game yesterday.. SO I know how it feels. Sorry that I am part of the problem but its either you log in and stay on or you never get to play...

Your so right Manakar, the only way ive been able to log in was in the middle of the night and just never log off.
And I can tell you hundreds if not thousands more on Faerie server are doing the same thing. AFK'rs everywhere you look. But sadly its the only way you get to play the game.
Don't want to sound like a dick, but honestly... this is pure garbage.

I know the afk'rs are a huge part of the problem, but I can't blame them at all for me not being able to get into the game. This is a huge issue! They knew how big this game was, they expected it, yet they weren't smart enough to open up each server population to handle it and hold it's stability? Seriously...

Spent the last 40 minutes trying to get into the game. I'm done with this bullshit. No queu, no free server transfers, no updated PR. This is un fucking believable.
What I find appalling is the attitude Square is treating these issues with. Saying that their fix for the problems is to just continue along with a broken system is just an awful way to treat your consumer base. I feel like I'm being strung along like some idiot with all these empty apologies. They can apologize to us all they want, but with no indication that they are even going to try to solve the problems they're apologizing for, it means absolutely nothing.
Worse yet, if this treatment continues, ARR could end up dying through no fault of the game itself, which is a shame, since there is a lot of good in it. The game's reputation is already tarnished, there's no need to make it even worse with a launch like this. More than anything else, it just gives the impression that Square Enix doesn't care about the game or its customers. And as a paying customer, not only is that a waste of the money I've payed for the end product itself, but it trickles down into the community, killing it off before it has a chance to even grow into something worth-while.
Terribly disappointed. Going to refund if it's not fixed by tomorrow. Couldn't play yesterday on the weekend due to the same 1017 error, and I don't have a lot of time after work.
Square Enix is not getting a subscription out of me.
Not to be unfair, because I understand things happen. But they should understand that actions have consequences.
The 1017 error is really starting to get on my nerves. It's becoming quite obvious that the NA/EU (Montreal) servers are/were not up to the task of handling large cross regional traffic.
This issue had been brought up (and subsequently shot down) during beta testing when people expressed concerns about having a large player base moving to or starting on servers in their designated region. Region being a loosely used term in this case since EU effectively doesn't even have it's own servers.
I'd really hate to see a game that SquareEnix, specifically Yoshi P. and his team, poured so much time and effort into making great run into the ground by a few poor choices and some bad out-sourcing. A practice which is now not that uncommon unfortunately.
Im amazed that the guys at IGN.com are streaming the game live right now and have had no issue logging in but for some reason all us normal players cant log in for crap.
What is being done? People are literally staying in game and not logging out. How can you ask people to pay for a game they can't play? I've gotten this error message for over 8 hours today. I can't get in, tried for 45 minutes straight on 3 occasions today and I have not gotten anything but that error.
It seems to me if there isn't enough room, them get more servers or whatever it takes and make more room so everyone can play.
well been having the 1017 problem on Behemoth since yesterday. Havent been able to log in yet....

Nothing like coming home from work and playing some FFXIV.......O WAIT THE SERVERS ARE STILL FULL.
I played FFXI for seven years and have been waiting for this for an awfully long time.
I'll give SE the benefit of the doubt for now, but if this continues into general release, I'm done.
Incredibly frustrated that (1) there is no general queue so I can at least stop spamming the server, and (2) there is no mechanism to boot the hundreds or thousands of AFK people who are wasting a space on the server, just because they don't want to log out.
I must be a real whore, because I will probably still give them my money after this whole debacle. I just love this game so much. Of course, that's what makes me so mad right now.
Square needs to add more servers, give free server transfers to lighten the load of the congested/full servers, or install a queue system that at least puts people in a line for when a spot opens up on there server cap, instead of click and try again over and over and over again. If this isn't resolved soon there going to lose a lot of potential customers and there reviews will tank because of this, it's a great game I enjoy it, as I'm sure many of you do but your all getting frustrated like I am and can't log in and play with your friends... yesterday 1017 error for 5 hours, and today no changes... And the apology in the twitter? I didn't read that they was doing anything to fix this problem besides limit the servers so that whomever gets lucky can play in a stable environment while the rest of us are stuck waiting and trying to get in... I have a lot of patience but it's starting to wear thin.
Any plans to pay us back for the days we can't play? Lost earnings?

This release was poor planing on SE side! They knew the # of Pre-orders/Orders in general and they didn't provide the proper servers to back them up? I don't understand...I am glad that I PRE PURCHASED the game so I could start playing it and OH WAIT...I was able to long in only one time?!?!??! Thanks for that.....The best part is that now I decided to re-roll on another server away from my friends and go figure I cant even log into any of those servers....haha even ones that i can create a new toon on...Give us a break here SE. We all bought the game and you did NOT deliver @all!!!!! Thank you!
At this point, I'm wondering who's in charge of giving the OK to setup and maintain the new servers. Is it the dev team who's responsible for this, or Square Enix themselves? On one hand, it could be severe negligence and apathy on Yoshi's part, or he could have his hands tied by the guys upstairs and be watching his baby crash and burn across the majority of the world with the same disdain as the rest of us.
For all the passion and involvement he's shown in the project up until now, I do hope it's the latter. Considering the Montreal Manager at Eidos ended up leaving because "The lack of leadership, lack of courage, and the lack of communication were so evident, that I wasn't able to conduct my job correctly," I don't imagine this to be very far from the truth.
The problem is all the people who log in and never log out...and SE incentivising the behavior with 1017 errors. Post in this thread and get SE to make a real solution to the problem, not a patch fix like 1017.
I am so glad I took the weekend off and signed up for early access for SE to give us a big FU. Good to see they still have their priorities right. Oh and BTW I canceled my pre-orders for all the SE games that are coming out on the consoles too. Not like you care. 1 person does not make a difference.

I'm a 1.0 player since 2011 and legacy and can't even see my old friends or new ones! I come home off of work just to find servers are always full during my free time...as if work wasn't stressful enough.
I give up... 5 hours trying and nothing but 1017....
Sending in a support ticket does not help either as their only response is watch the loadstone. The loadstone page has not been updated since yesterday regarding this problem. So much for tech support.
This game is awesome!!!! It's like 2 games in 1!!! I got to play a little of the first game off and on in beta, now i get to play the second half!!! the suspense when the screen says loading and then 1017, like you almost got in, but bam!!! not happening. The drama when I slam my mouse on the desk and weep softly to myself like a big drama queen watching the notebook on repeat. The action when you click start, then character name, then ok as quickly as you can thinking that you can sneak in by doing the moves more quickly. And the error itself, 1017, Please wait until an opening is available and try again, like are they going to send me an email when a spot is open? a text message? traditional snail mail? a tweet? who knows? possibilities are endless!!! Replayability is decent due to it not always being the same error code, so the ending isn't always the same. I'm not sure what everyone is so upset about.
Something needs to happen to fix this crap right now. So fed up at this point.

Big issues here SE. Trying to stay positive and patient but every NA/EU server is overcrowded. Please address the real issues and add more server support (add servers, cap servers, allow us to see server populations, allow server transfers, implement a working queue system...). Please communicate with us. Tell us what you are doing to resolve the issues and give us reasonable time estimates. You are alienating your players and Final Fantasy fans by keeping us in the dark. The game is beautiful and has the possibility to be hugely successful. It also has the possibility to be a huge failure if not well supported and implemented. I think SE's reputation is on the line here. Hoping for the best.
This makes no sense... I play this game along with two other people in my household. For days I get nothing but error 1017, not even a queue, while the other two get the queue. I wonder if certain accounts get this more than others, or if I'm just horribly unlucky.:confused:
Didnt play all day yesterday cause of 1017 and same thing today it's only going to get worst tomorrow with full launch of game
