I remember somewhere they said they wanted to make it easier to move servers if you wanted.

They did indeed mention making transfers available, and there's also the fact that you can create at least one character, and up to 8 depending on your account, on every server.
I've never played an MMO (that wasn't near death) where the servers were "not populated" during times outside of "prime time." Go play any popular MMO on the market now. You can find people online any time of the day. This really isn't a legitimate complaint.Quote:
"No, no. You won't have to live on a server that's only populated during your primetime. You'll be able to live on a server that's only populated during another region's primetime instead!"
I'll have to look for the info, if you happen to find the source, lemme know.
Do you happen to have the source? The one that states we will be able to log into 2.0, redesign our character, pick a server, and then re-choose a server if we're not pleased with the one we've chosen?
I'm not saying they didn't say it, I'm just entirely curious where they said it.
i know they said it too, i think it was in the special talk session. have you had a chance to watch that in its entirety? I've been trying to keep up to date on all info so it kind of becomes a blurr
Correction Click here and skip to 21 min in. make sure you have the CC button pressed for the subtitles.
Yeah the info does sort of all run together at this point :D
I have watched the entire video with subtitles already once. Now I'm watching the 21-minute mark you mention but so far all he's said is that people will be able to choose a datacenter locally or over-seas. That's it, no mention of re-selection at any point. Now they've moved on to talking about other things (Agni's Philosophy).
lol i just rewatched that part and you are right. i'm sure they talked about it in there, just watch the whole thing and come back if there is still some confusion. they do jump around a bit so it could have been before or after or whatever. i know it was said they want it easier for players to change servers.
I'll give it another watch-through at some point, I'm too busy to hang on subtitles for another hour, blah.
Talking about prime times on servers is a 100% legitimate complaint, go look at wow, your saying there are always people in say Stormwind, which is true, but its random gimps and afk guilds, you can /shout reqruit in any game, its gimps who normally dont do events looking for leech spots. Actual guilds will run during prime time, you do not go to a NA specific server to start your events at EU prime time, you will have no members.
Ive played wow, i know these facts from experience, between multiple servers.
Just logged on WoW at 11:15 PM server time, you could say this is out of prime time and there were 3 people making DS groups, and some guy making some TK transmog run. So yea on any MMO that is popular and has a lot of people you will always find people making groups no matter the time.
Do you always look so heavily down upon those not in your personal group/linkshell/guild, Mr. I'm So Elite? People shouting for groups aren't automatically bad players.Quote:

First: People not in a ls/guild do not know how eachother play, its worse, idc how you look at it, its worse, be all touchy feely all you want, idc, its gimp compaired to a real group, esp something like "content finder" which is forced random groups which is where 12yr olds turn to and people that want to leech, its just how it is. You can count random /shout groups all you want, i do not, its not set, i promise you they wont be doing it every day.
Second: Why are you so anti-linkshell, are you in a bad one? Maby thats why your only interested in pvp. Do you really think all of these post are about us wanting random /shout groups 24/7? You need to put alittle thought into things, we care about linkshells, it was the foundation of all content/endgame in FF11 and those same people have brought it here, there are loads of ls's that are multicultural that have the ability to run through several prime times.
Your also compairing a game with millions of players compaired to ff14, even though your point is rediculous anyway.
Any competent player understands both his or her role and the role of the other members of the party. You do not need to know how people play on an individual basis. Certain skills and behaviors are expected and implied. I have lead many PUGs for nearly every event in the game and I see very little of this alleged childish ppl who want to leech" behavior/mentality. In no small part because the bad launch of FFXIV back in the day drove off most of the people you speak ill about, this game has a pretty strong community and does not have an overabundance of poor players who don't understand their job and can't follow directions.Quote:

Sorry, it's not just how it is. You're starting to sound a lot like the 12 year olds you're making fun of though, particularly with your poor grammar and insulting as well as high-and-mighty attitude.Quote:

I'm not anti-linkshell. But I'm also not anti-PUG either.Quote:
Second: Why are you so anti-linkshell,
Nope, I'm actually quite happy with my LS.Quote:

I'm not "only" interested in PvP. I'm interested in PvP in addition to being interested in other parts of the game. Otherwise I wouldn't have been playing it since the very first alpha version and would have just waited til I heard about PvP coming before even touching the game.Quote:
Maby thats why your only interested in pvp.
You need to take your own advice and stop making baseless assumptions about the people you're talking to.Quote:
You need to put alittle thought into things,
In wow, your correct, where every single fight is very cookie cutter, FF is not the same, there are multiple strats for every single fight in any content. You actually do need to communicate and know your group.
It is how it is, content finder is a forced party, its 100% random, the larger the game is, the more 12yr olds + leeches you get.
Playing since the very first alpha version and you only have 2 50's... let me guess, you play 2-3hrs and are a patch-hopper.
You have been making baseless assumptions vs every single person ive ever seen you argue with on these forums.
people will still blame the lag when they mess up or fake DC.
nothing will change, next post "we want the old servers back :("
It don't matter to me. it's not like i understand all languages. hell i barley get invite from jp,na,eu,etc, players anyway. i just feel bad for players who have lots of friend out there and new players who are going to join FFXIV that want to exp. the one server community. Lets see how Alpha Test turns out.
Are you all forgetting that as a Legacy Member you can have up to 8 characters on Every Server/World? You can still play with your "International Friends" on their servers at no extra cost.
Once again, making baseless assumptions about players. No, I am not a "patch hopper." I just don't care much for leveling and prefer to play content. I'm too busy running bosses and other stuff to level more stuff. I didn't play much after the first month or so post launch, but I've been an active player ever since the announcement of 2.0. I've paid my dues, earned my Legacy status, and kept on playing the whole time. Everyone plays an MMO for different reasons.Quote:

No, I have not. I have a clear base for any assumptions I make and I always spell them out. People are welcome not to agree with them, but they are not without base. I do not go around telling individuals "you must be a <insert stereotype here>' every post like you have so far in this thread.Quote:

tl;tr, i don't want regional servers I'm sad I'm gonna stop playing.
i never saw any need to post anything in the forum before cause i know it's pointless, but i have to right now cause the road SE is taking now will kill FFXIV in the near Future, the Idea of Regional Server is the best way to ensure that, I've seen it in wow, aion, rift all the other games~ where you would always end up playing the game in the prime-time of your region "4-6hours give or take" and after that it's just either fail group or normal farming, and consider this game have no PVP and its PVP wont be as good as any other MMO, you will end up doing Nothing outside the prime-time.
The Main reason why i played ffxi since 2002 was the community, not only the game play, bosses, cool story, community was the reason i lingered in the game for that long, no matter which game i went to play i always come back to ffxi cause of the people i know in there, the friends i made and the fun time we've shared before and will have in every encounter we face in the game. i have friends all around the worlds that i would have not met them if i played in regional server.
Sadly right now Mr. Yoshida you are breaking almost all your promises that you kept telling us through the last two years when the game was utter trash, yet we stayed and we believed in you, and the change you were bringing to the game~ we were asked to pay for this game just to support it while it was not even 60% of what the game should be but the faithful community stand by you and your team supported you in every way we could, you promised that nothing should be wiped or reset and the wealth should be carry out through 2.0 cause those people that played for that long earned it, first you tried and removed one single digit which wont effect most of the players and those with cap gil can store it at their retainers, and if I'm not mistaken within the next day you came up with "1/10" the wealth will be carried and you are relaying to the arrows issues which is by far beyond me. saying that NPC will sell their goods for 1/10 what they used to wont effect the market cause player would not do the same, it's not matter of money would hold its value rather than the act itself of changing what we've been promised before.
And now 4-5months before the 2.0 you come up with the free "regional server", what you did sir is you didn't lock the region on the game itself which mean people that bought EU/NA/JP copy can move around as they like in a "regional servers" which does not count as International server, and the idea of putting label into the server as EU/NA/JP alone will do the damage.
I'm sure that I'm talking only about myself but I'm like 85% quitting the game once the server goes down and no action is taken toward the regional Servers, the game would lose the main reason I'm playing so I'll be doing Guild wars 2 for sure or LoL again. I only hope that if my Server "Durandal" would make a post about staying together as server and most of us agree on it as Community, that any server we move to "JP/EU/NA" would mean nothing to us cause the community moved as one.
What promises did Naoki Yoshida break exactly?
He announced his plan for regional servers very early on when they told us about 2.0. We have known about that forever now. And even if he hadn't, he never promised he wouldn't.
If you aren't happy with the idea of regional servers, that's fine, but don't say he broke a promise he never made.
Hes broken many promises, but for regional servers, we didnt buy this game to play on regional servers, its a world server brand, has been for 12yrs+ now, hes basically taken our money all this time to change the core reason so many people play FF games to start with, it should have been said before they started charging though I can easily see why they waited, if they did say it then, the game would have died, now people have the attitude "maby 2.0 will be worth it".
They said within days of 2.0 being released that items/quest/gil/everything would be carried over because of large concern, and none would lose anything, hes considering the fact that everything being lowered to 1/10 (10%) is keeping it the same(but he did lie about it), maby over a long period of time the player based economy will work itself out, generally the cheaper the item the faster it will. Fact is, he changed it.
What promises? Can you specify?
I don't know about anyone else, but the only reason I bought this game is because I wanted to play another Final Fantasy MMO. No other reason.
Plus, we knew about the regional servers before we started paying. Maybe you didn't know because you missed it or whatever, but that's not his fault.
As far as the gil issue goes. Everything is still getting transferred over. It is just being redenominated.
I realize some people are having a hard time grasping the concept so I understand why you might think you are losing out. The fact is you aren't.
That's a different thread from this one so I won't go into it further. There are several threads you can read through if you are really interested in understanding what is actually going to happen. Or you could ignore those and continue listening to knee-jerk reactions of players that don't understand basic math.
I fully understand that if everything is taken to 10% of the original value, its basically the same thing, but the player market does not follow those rules, given over time it will, but not right away, reguardless, its changed.
2yrs ago, there was not a single person that could have known about regional servers, 2.0 wasnt even an idea until After launch. I cannot help you apparently didnt start playing until later.
Regional servers should have been release far sooner, and the gil information should have been given much closer to shutdown, its completely screwed the economy on every server, plus with atomos going on and the 1mil+/hr people can make off it it, its even worse.
Two years ago we weren't paying a monthly subscription. The announcement about regional servers came after Yoshi came on board and told us about their plans for 2.0 and that was definitely before we started paying the monthly sub.
In any case, SE didn't sell us global servers. They sold us an MMO.
Nobody at SE promised you we wouldn't have regional server. No promise was broken.
I appreciate you are unhappy with the servers issue and I won't say you don't have a right to that opinion. But you are certainly wrong if you continue to propagate the idea Yoshi lied to us when he clearly did no such thing.
I'm not. The problem is, I barely have time to work on my main character, how am I supposed to level another... let's say, two? Sure I can just log in and chat, but I can do that via a messenger too.
Being able to move between regions with one character at will would make it much easier.
I am happy with this movement,
Don't get me wrong, I like the kindness of JP player,
but I play this game for fun, communicate with others
not just meeting JP player,or study some simple JP greeting words.
The JP player just can't speak English well, & i just can't understand what they are talking about.
A JP primal/NM party just won't let me join, because they will discuss tactics in full Japanese.
& they don't want to waste time on the translation.
And it's hard to find a English speaking LS.
If you like to meeting new JP friend, you are still able to choose a server in their location.
I read this as people saying they arent able to make new friends. ever have to move to another school, city, or country? if you are really that close of friends and want to stay together then i'm sure you are intelligent enough to talk it out and decide on a server to move your linkshell to. i do sympathize with the idea of a global server but i really dont think they are taking that away from anyone. no one is restricted to a local(ish) server. i for one would much prefer a local region server to play on and not for lag reasons or population reasons, i'm one of those guys who logs on later at night cause i have kids and cant get on during "peak times", so if thats the case i now have an option to find a reigon where my play time is a peak time if i so choose.
I really hope that SE is smart enough not to scrap the regional server idea so long as they dont charge for server transfers.
Seems? We knew there were going to be EU-located servers same time we knew about NA ones.
Since many EU speak english, they can easily join an NA server if they want and vice versa. In fact, those that do will contribute to softening the difference between peak times.
Nobody said you "should." I said you "Can." It all depends on what's important to you. If minimizing latency is what's most important to you, then pick a server in your region. If playing with people in other regions/immersing in culture/whatever social reason is what matters more to you, then pick a server somewhere else. (It's worth noting that EU players will likely still ping better to the NA servers than to the JP ones).Quote:
Why should i join a Server that is connected to an NA Datacenter? It might be better then a JP Datacenter but i will still have a higher delay. I really liked international Server since they released FFXI but i prefer a Server where I dont have an disadvantage.
In short, to answer your question more directly: You shouldn't, unless you'd rather play with NA players than people in your own region. There will be some people who will want to do this, others will not want to. I have a few friends in England and Germany who may want to play the game. In their case, they have the ability to join the server I'm on. There will be a minor ping difference, but we will be able to play together.
This thread's still live and kicking?
You already got your money's worth. You agreed to pay money in exchange to play FFXIV, which you did. If you don't like the way FFXIV is going just unsub and quit paying them money. Simple as that. I am really sick of all these people whining. Don't like it just quit.
It's only your opinion that you don't like regional servers. I think regional servers will be great and they are headed in a good direction.
/facepalm
Because when it comes to latency/lag in ARR, you certainly wouldn't be worse off than where you are in the current game, connecting to JP server.
We've come full circle here! What is it that you want?
Pick EU then and stop complaining.
Your just... idiots, not 1 single person has said we do not want regional servers, we just want world servers added to the list, why is this hard to fkn get?
If I dont like it quit? You people have been non-stop bitching on these forums for 2yrs getting crap nerfed to living hell because the game was to hard, I think your the people who should quit.
"Have you not listened to me at all? Appeals to tradition are invalid arguments." Obviously your idea that if it is tradition you should just scrap it is better. Getting rid of world server 100% is like taking out moogle/chocobos, just no. Rename the game and prob solved.
Actually, you know what, your highest... anything is lvl30, anything you say is invalid, play the game, then have an opinion on how things should go.
Go get past lvl30.
