Ah but it could be Attack, attack, dodge, poison, range attack, attack, attack, Bio, attack, dodge, etc... Sounds way more fun than staring at my tp bar while my guy auto attacks or spamming 1-0 like I already do only my guy will auto attack while I'm spamming 1-0.

They could also dump the battle regimen and give us a dynamic system where a mage casts fire II right when a DoW attacks combining them for fire attack (Kinda like what you see in the intro to the game) that would make it far more interesting and fun.

The point was, auto attack should only be used when a player does not rly wanna play but instead do things brainlessly, we use skills to do good dmg and entertaining combat, and when we need to look at the side for a min or doing low lvl stuff for fun we just use auto attack.

In any case, the auto attack is a minor thing compared with the changes the combat system needs to be entertaining and worthy.

I would say if something is tedious and not fun to the point where you want the game to play it self while you watch TV then it's another problem with the game that should be fixed. As a game developer if I found something that was boring I wouldn't say "Well this sucks and it's boring lets make auto attack so we don't have to suffer through it." I would say "This sucks lets find a way to make it fun."

To me AA isnt a fun addition, it is less work to do. Adding it will lessen the control of our characters actions in combat. The only way i see the addition of auto attack being good is to make it toggled with the basic skills still being usable. So people who dont want to use it, dont have to use it.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the solution we're getting. Wouldn't require a complete overhaul of the Stamina system, so it's much more feasible on a short develoment cycle.

There not making it toggle-able.
It's going to replace your very basic attack and act as a traditional auto-attack.
That's the words of the dev post from earlier in this thread.

I think they're just doing this because there is no way with the current system to land a successful "Shield bash"
Even with every idea I had, not one would really solve this problem.

They're basically just going to take out each classes basic attack. Maybe either convert the secondary to a TP required skill or you can use it to build TP for strategic purposes in conjunction with the auto-attack.

Anyway, they're probably going to increase the rate at which we build TP, so rather then pressing all those buttons to build TP we're probably just going to be using half as many actions though all using TP.

Anyway, they can make this work. Though I'm personally not playing a game I have to wait anywhere near 5 seconds to attack.
Figure out a way to make it closer to 2 seconds and i'll give it a shot. (or at least make PUG a spam fest of TP skills)

I don't know what to hope for this, but the game basically just going to change from building TP and controlling every action, to just using your strategic TP actions. The dev assured us they're not going to slow down battle too much. Cause I"ll tell you one thing, I never played any "just" melee classes in FFXI because they were all so incredibly boring.

Wait 5 hits and strike (if you can get your TP gain high enough) were very unattractive classes to level.

This game has much more use to it's weaponskills for melee classes.
I see that right now there's too much focus on the building of TP and not enough on the strategic benefits to each tp required action.

So yeah I think I must admit this is probably the best solution.

I want an FF Action RPG MMO :D can you make one please!
Or a Star Ocean MMO would be really popular and successful I'd imagine.

They haven't said they are removing basic attacks yet.. theres not a dev post in this thread yet. All they said is they have things planned, and without implementing auto attack the future battle system would be impossible.

As they said, they cant really 'add' auto attack without changing other things first or at the same time.

There haven't been any posts form devs about auto attack since then, because there is too much to consider.

Auto attack is good. Allows chat in battles, and more strategic fights. Instead of spamming regular attacks, you make all mobs harder, and your character auto attacks while you build your strategy around that to tackle the enemy. Auto attack is just a basis for your strategy.

If they added auto attack, made enemies tougher, all enemies more unique, enemies adding status effects, becoming immune to damage types and needing mages to damage them, needing mages to enchant melee swords with certain effects to damage, skillchains, magic bursts, etc.. This would be.. well, amazing.

Instead of making 30 minutes of exping a slaughter of 100 enemies, why not make it 3-5 very hard, strategic battles that give the player a sense of accomplishment, with larger rewards than slaughtering enemies in 3 unstrategic hits? With short battles, there's no point in using strategy. It's just a spamfest of all your best abilities. We need to make the battles longer and make players work together and combine their abilities to make this game more community based.

Meet someone who has all the right abilities paired with yours? meet someone who's on a similar wavelength and works great with you? Instant friend add. This builds friendships, and the basis that MMOs are built around

I think that adding an auto attack to the battle system would make the battle system flow better. I personally use a controller and it's pretty inconvenient to keep flipping back and forth between attack and my skills.

If you use a controller there are types of combat you could ask for that would be a lot more fun than the combat we have now or auto attack. Again why ask for McDonalds when you can ask for New York Strip. Auto Attack is just the easy way out for them and doesn't really give us anything.
