Roles for Samurai, Red Mage, Dancer

well id assume a healer dancer would be full of debuffs, or even a dd support version would be more like a foes bard, i guess i mean the two were inverses of each other in 5, (mog dances in 6 which were like geomancer attacks) tactics, dunno what they did in 11, never played it.

Yeah perfect dodge and manawall were things in 2.0 and they were just too good so rogue got a replacement stoneskin and so did blm. 1 or two hits wouldnt really make a tank too broken, but apparently the devs thought they were too broken for dps. So yeah, id have to agree with the dodge tank thing

I miss being able to use the series related combat debuffs, specifically Paralyze. More accurately I guess, I miss support role duties lol. Battles are too streamlined here to make such things not OP to maintain on the mob, like you would in other FF games (if that was the strategy).

DNC could actually pull off all 3 roles decently in XI, though they certainly didn't stand out in any compared to other jobs. It was kinda left in the dust for group activity because of that, though it's the most popular subjob for many melee jobs solo. Maining it was common for soloers as well.

They couldn't tank the harder endgame content, they couldn't maintain heals through heavy damage consistently, and their damage output was nice, but you'd rather take a dedicated support job, THF, or a heavy hitter job like BLM/DRK/SAM/etc.

hahahah thats awesome! we could use a good solo dps, we got war and sch, though theyre really not happy about them being so good atm it seems

I feel you about "fair" debuffing, i mean mobs get to debuff the hell out of us, but being able to smack a raid boss with paralyze would trivialize the whole affair, making the forced 2 4 2 be more like a whatever crazy strat the team can think of thing.(Which i would welcome) That being the case, it is rather sad to see so many possibilities get nailed before theyre tried because of this rigid role balance were all stuck to adhere to.

Agreed. I still think this game is quite capable of something to the degree of implementing support roles, but it'd require a lot of balance adjustments. Stuff that the devs/Yoshi-P are just probably not keen on doing yet.

We do have an example already in-place though for consistent "support" style play with AST and the various cards used. They're more support oriented than BRD is, since songs are situational, while the cards are universally applicable and part of your normal action lol.

Yeah that is very true, and even a while back there was mention of implementing hybrid roles(probably shelved) but im sure some day they will figure out the right balance. and make it a thing, either that or loosen up on the roles just a tad bit, at the moment "dps" seems the go to route for anything that can cover a couple roles, and or the missing support role.

summoner/arcanist brand new to the game in 2.0, also brought scholar or else the 1 and only healer till 3.0 wouldve been white mage. Not in beta, thats for sure....thm could use cleric stance in beta, it was cray
