Petition: Bring back mob AI!

Got my vote on it. It's one of the things I loved most about Ryzom, was the fact that all of the mobs had certain migration patterns and ways that they interacted with you, the player. It was totally awesome. I'd love something like this when they do the zone re-design.

I want to see a mob kill another mob, and gain a level. Pugil gain levels 25, Pugil learns screw driver! RUN!

I loved it that they were curious.

they shouldn't have removed so many features.

I agree, its a unique feature that made the monsters realistic.

However I see the other side of this too. Monsters are for what? Grinding the hell out of. W.e makes them come faster, and respawn the quicker is more ideal, not their traits and behaviors.

If anything they should limit this to some monsters which lets face it, are not ment for griding off of, there was plenty of those in XI and in this game.

While I didn't know of all these other quirks of the monster AI that are listed in the OP, I was familiar with the 'curious' ai.

I can remember back when I first started and was out doing stuff and a coblyn came after me... and 'didn't attack'... I was surprised at it to be certain. I learned that some monsters were curious like that.


To all those who are 'vehemently' against reinstating the 'curious' ai as a 'frustrating' experience...
Why not consider an altered version that isn't quite as 'frustrating', it doesn't have to be reinstated exactly as it was before, and there have already been several suggestions in this thread on it.

In mabinogi there were wolves that attacked sheep and such.

I think I will always remember that, and I will always remember goats that followed me in FFXIV and reared up at me and hooved the ground. So I think they should re-implement this someday.

Snurbles still have behaviourisms, strangely enough.

I miss that as well, it was a step back but I think in the long term it allowed them to take a few steps forwards. But I hope that at some time features like this will return.

Signed, even though coblyns make my skin crawl and when they used to come up and stare at me i'd freak the f^&k out, whoever thought of the coblyn should just be slapped. GAH~! now my skin's crawling just thinking about them...damned things. >.>

I'd rather have some degree of realism instead of another generic passive mob interaction like it is in so many other MMOs. Plus, it'd make creating machinimas for XIV a bit more interesting, don't you think?
