Sry I jumped on the Alhanelem (Fighting right now!) bandwagon. Lets all just pop a Valium and return to our regularly scheduled whatever we were doing.

I know the majority of people posting about this being a problem care about friends that did a little content with, but i couldnt care less, it has nothing to do with it, its about the ability to do something around the clock, having multiple prime times, never being bored, if I log on at 4am, I want something to do "thats not solo", actual content and people to do it with.
Your NA servers may have JP/EU people, but its not JP/EU prime time people, they joined a NA server to play at NA prime time most likely because of work or something, there is a huge difference.
Keep forgetting there is cross server content finder in ARR you can do stuff any time of day due to this feature even when there is a lower amount of people on your home server. The content finder will draw people from a bunch of different servers put them all on an instance server and you can run content with them.
For example in a game that has this WoW I can log in a 4AM, queue up for dungeon finder or raid finder and get a group rather quickly and if your a tank you get an instant queue almost.
"content finder" like "raid finder" will be full of gimpy people and for sub-par content.
If you enter raid finder for dragon soul, even way after release, you will find atleast 30% of the group doesnt know the fight mechanics a more often than not there are 1-3 people literally afk "leeching" because they simply can.
Like it's been said a few times. This doesn't force separation, but it kinda does it anyway.
I'm someone who started this game with fond memories of FFXI Ballista and has played for 2+ yrs in hopes of PvP. I can now either start over without my LS on a JP server or go play PvP and lose all my friends. It's pretty craptastic for some people.
Yeah I agree with most of the posts here in that it will seperate the community. I don't converse with too many japanese players but I've always enjoyed the fact that were all together playing the same game opposite sides of the globe. I don't want this to happen.
How is that any different then you shouting for people in FFXIV now making your own group at a odd time, where you get a lot of people that don't know what they are doing how to play their class, missing accessories. Like I did a Ifrit in a pick up group I had 40k total damage, while on the lower end we had people doing 2k, 6k and 8k total damage.
Honestly, grammar police.
Shouts can pick and choose, raid finder is 100% random. In your ifrit group you should have checked peoples gear or added in the shout "must be experienced", if it wasnt your party, make your own.
I do.
Thats not the games fault... thats just low standards of the party lead... or just being lazy. I would rather sit in uldah 7/8 shouting then go to garuda knowing im going to lose, the time your losing you could have found a decent player.
So welcoming and open...
I guess you don't help random pugs with Nael or Always Bet On Black either, right?
PS: The gear "standard" isn't as high as you're trying to make it seem. Not to mention, if players can't do the content they're never going to learn the mechanics. In this case those that know should be willing to help those that don't.
I don't think I've done anything like that to anyone in this game. The only time I've ever kicked anyone from a group for gear was in a Naxx 25 run with a death knight that was wearing INT plate and an "of the Owl" weapon. This is after we told him he should be gearing for STR and STA not because we're being mean, but because his class is designed to benefit from STR and STA and gains nothing from INT.
My ls does events for atleast 10hrs a day, if you want help, apply. No I do not answer every single shout in my free time for events I do not need. I'm sorry?
Edit: Though lastnight i did kill buffalo at 5am with a JP group for no reason, they were doing GC rank up or something. Very bored.
I also check gear before I invite in the rare occasion I actually shout. Its less offencive apparently.
Taking a gear check as offencive is really kinda new... that is standard endgame anywhere, and when I rarely do shouts, I kinda bring it there. Not like I expect double/triple melds, if someone is on BLM and wearing a felt cavalier's hat, but without even a single meld, you put no effort into your job, and I have no interest in lettting you leech from me, or my party.
I been thinking about this Data Centers things, didn't they said something that data centers are links to the servers and all, has no one think that the Data Center May be in USA for example and the server its linked is in japan? or something like that? Data Centers from what i have read aren't Servers but platforms that allow for less lag allowing certain actions be done in the Data Centers instead of the Server, forgive me if am wrong but that's what I believe/hope/ will happen.
Also I hope new servers were people pre~ARR wont be able to transfer to newbie servers since that would really screw up things for player that want a full fresh start
No, the data centers in the US will only be connected to US servers, and the same goes for other regions, they are still claiming them as "world servers" because they give you the option to connect to an EU/JP data center/server. The only true issue is the lable they are giving the servers, if there are atleast a few "Global Servers" the issue will go away, reguardless of where these servers are located. It has nothing to do with the current playerbase, they have friends/ls's/connections to people currently playing, its 100% about new players, if all you see is a list
NA
NA
EU
EU
JP
JP
as the server list, they will 100% pick the server that relates to them expecting every other choice will have people they cant play with because of server prime times and language barriers. As a NA/EU ls myself, going to say a JP server which i would prefer, might let us survive for awile, but over the years with people getting new jobs, going to college, or just quiting the game, there will be no new NA/EU people to invite of a JP specific server and any EU/NA ls would eventually die.
oh god not this again lol
Presumably they're very, very happy, since they'll get their 'JP Only' servers they complained loudly about losing in '04 when the NA version of XI was released.
Seems to me this is entirely what this is about. XI has run fine for a decade for NA and EU players with the servers physically in Japan, and in the over two years I've been playing XIV I've rarely if ever noticed 'lag' caused by the servers being in Japan, so this isn't about performance at all.
Must be a well hidden thread about "their" happiness on the issue. There exists no thread containing every JP players thoughts and feelings nor every NA players thoughts and feelings nor every EU players thoughts and feelings nor 100% of anyones thoughts and feelings.
If you know of one, please link it.
We already have Global servers. YOU ARE PLAYING ON THEM RIGHT NOW.
I suppose I'll add my disapproval of this system, though I'll be staying on Durandal regardless if it becomes a JP primary world or not.
The way I see it, if people are prompted to choose a server upon their first 2.0 login, then people will choose their nearest data center server.
If not prompted, a fair number of people won't be arsed to go through the process of changing data center servers.
Are you really that narrow minded?
....tiny bubble.... *hiccup!* ^_^
I think you guys should totally like um... Like... LIKE JPs because you know... they totally made this game and stuff...
*looks at bottom of glass*
Hehe... there's JPs in my *hic* cup.... :)
They should seriously consider creating a global server and a few regional(s), based off a poll or early server choice for 1.0 players they can decide which types of servers need more of.
Some might say "the JPN server was the global server, just pick that one" and yes while that used to be true its not true anymore. The server would have to be named global - to signify its purpose.
I assume you would only need a small number of global servers since LS will likely move to their own regional (majority or LS leader regional).
Where did you get this data from?
Although not the greatest of translations (Google) I browsed around on the JP forums, and it looks like this is a "Hot Topic" as well. From what I can make out, looks like many don't agree with the regional servers like many of the people on the "english" forums. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...81%84%E3%81%A6
A fragment of the JP community did want JP only servers. But the demands of the few does not meant he demands of all.
Have global and regional everyone happy simple as that... No global server simply will not work in a series that is known for being a global community in their mmos..
My real issue with this is just the options for interaction based on time. Global servers allow for different peaks of activity - NA primetime, JP primetime, EU primetime... all rotating across the day.
Regional data centers that segregate the community lead to basically selecting whatever server shares a primetime with your free time, which does absolutely f##k all for the goal of reducing personal lag unless you structure your free time gaming allowance on your regional choice, which is much less freedom than I desire.
So just to get this straight, Square Enix's defense of this is "No, no. You won't have to live on a server that's only populated during your primetime. You'll be able to live on a server that's only populated during another region's primetime instead!"
Regional server are okey, i just hope they put up servers which are marked as "international" to encourage people, who wants to meet people from diffrent regions.
(would also work for people with an international LS)
Maybe even with an "unknown" random data center.
My native language is not english, so if you find any mistakes you may keep them.
Cant believe people are still crying over this. This ADDITION of extra local servers on top of current global servers will really show all of us who is interested in global servers. those of you calling for global, stay global. its that simple. if people leave, then i guess they are not of the same opinion as you. on top of that no one has played ARR yet so you are all judging this on current gameplay or past experiences. BEFORE we all panic, lets at least get into beta, please... There wont be the fear of the director not listening like the previous one, Yoshi-P has already demonstrated that he listens. concern has been expressed, it has been noted, now move along people.
Not had posing priveliges back for long and I haven't put given my thoughts on this, so here's my 2 gil:
This is the worse idea SE has come up with, there is a good chance a NA server will be dead outside NA primetime and same with EU servers, partly because there are multiples. I played DCUO on a NA server for a bit before the mega servers came in, and it was dead, I saw about 10 people in a week on an apparently more populated server. So there is a good chance for some people to stay with friends we will need to stay awake until 4-5am to do anything, not just LS events.
The only time we wouldn't is if we segregate and move to our region's servers, this is what I can see happening, SE will not segregate us, we will segregate ourselves. Lets say 80% of the EU population (I use this because I am in UK) move to EU servers, and the other 20% are scattered on NA servers, depending on the amount of servers each region gets that could let's say there are going to be 5 NA servers, that could make (with these numbers pulled out of my ass) 4% of EU population on each NA server this is a very small amount of people that could very well struggle to find people to play with at their primetime, and would make them move to an EU server just to get things done and bam we are segregated based on region.
Before I get flamed too much I do plan to stay with my LS and see how things go, but I may well be forced to move server if I cannot get too much done.
Then there is the friends I have waiting on PS3 release who all plan to join the same server as me, this is a mix of RL friends who live in the UK, and some friends I met on FFXI living in the US, and despite all having stopped playing we still talk, so what am I supposed to do about that? Force RL friends to possibly play on a server that could be dead when they want to play, or do the same for my US friends? All this on top of my international LS that I do not want to leave.
If SE is just adding Additional server for regional, then trust me very very few people have an issue. The issue is from all the info from the devs and live letter they have scraped that model and added one where all servers are regional but unlocked. Which will have almost the same impact as region locking in terms of segregation.
Have a few server market global will solve this whole issue. NO one want them to scrap regional server, we just want some that are designated global server not regional specific.
Example: Durandal (International).
Not Durandal (NA)...but everyone can join if they want, this NA label will cause 90% of the population to be NA making 24/hr gameplay near impossible without queing up for content finder and it will rip apart multi national linkshells, which there are a good number of.
another thing im hoping is that obviously when we start ARR we wont have to chose which server we want before logging in and we can just come back to our old servers, because then we might not lose too many JP or EU players. But that's just me being hopeful. I need to learn with SE sometimes that doesn't always work (~_~)
It sounds like what they are doing is just labeling servers. currently where are the "global" servers located? Japan. they will most likely condense the japan servers then call them Durandal (japan) with the same people and everything as it is now. why does it have to be labeled "global" to be a global server? arent they all in effect global since they are making it easier to change servers and adding extra servers in other regions? it just seems like people are getting upset about semantics.
Who says you'll even have the opportunity to move again after-the-fact?
I've yet to see official information stating we will have more than one opportunity to choose a server.. granted I think it would be absurd for them to only give one opportunity, considering we may not know if one datacenter or another is going to be better for us (some people may be partially in betweeen two centers for example), but still as of yet I haven't seen anything official on it unless I've missed it.
