Worse for YOU, maybe, certainly not for me or the rest of the people that do not believe that content is being cut just to re-sell it.
Your standard =/= the industry.

Thankfully FF14 is not the only mmo on the market and we can look at other trends to see a possible, and probable, end result of the cash shop.
For example in WoW the first cash shop mount was introduced during it's expansion WotLK. Fast forward three expansions later to WoD and the result is that ALL of the unique mounts are put in the cash shop, with the devs even flat out admitting they spent more time and effort on them because they want them to look flashy. Meanwhile what do people get in-game for their sub? Recolors after recolors after recolors of boars and wolves. Even very grindy rep rewards are often just another recolor even when it made absolutely no sense for that faction to award that mount *coughLaughingSkullcough*. I think by the end there were 14 boar mounts which all looked virtually the same and had very poorly programmed running animations too because the devs lazily used a far larger mount model as it's "skeleton"
It was not until people complained en masse and started boycotting the Mystic Runesaber mount that Blizz made a few more unique mounts obtainable in game.
The mentor one, is that two seater?
The recruit a friend ones requires several months subscription payment on an additional account, not cash shop but still behind a pay wall. The wedding one requires purchase of either of the paid wedding packages off the cash shop, it isn't available in the free package. Players don't have much choice with two seater mounts as far as being able to obtain by actually playing the game. It seems to be something SE is using largely as a marketing scheme.
True these are some of the same people that I heard say they dropped $200 on a mount in a different game well good for them for having that type of disposable income. But like I said in previous post anyone seen a trend in mount prices? If continues will eventually be paying $40, $50 for a mount but that ok right cause of the whales that have the money to do it and just call everyone else cheap and poor. (This post is not aimed at the quoted person I just agree with them and wanted to extend upon it)
Yeah, it's cute, but not $30 cute...
And this is coming from someone who has purchased quite a bit of stuff from the cash shop for XIV. I'm not against buying things from there, just against the cost of this particular item. I'll pass. but thanks for the option.
Were you around when the Grove Warden was datamined and contained "something something Blizzard store" in its description? There was plenty of complaints, both on the official forums and Reddit, so much so that they turned around and made it into a reward for beating the final raid boss before Legion's release (either that, or Legion's prepatch). Regardless of that, how is Blizzard's store "very large"? 10 mounts where we have 6 (including the wedding chocobo), 12 pets, same as FFXIV, 3 helmets compared to who knows how many monkey ass helmets and so on on ours, etc. This is over the course of 11 years, while FFXIV is just under 3 years old.
The only major difference is the level boost and WoW token, the latter being beneficial for the game (in my opinion, I know many people who would not be playing WoW at the moment if not for it, myself included), and the level boost is something Yoshida is considering adding our to game (which seems extremely likely at this point) The same arguments made here can be made on that, too. It's optional, don't buy it if you don't like it, it provides funding for the game and so on.
I've always laughed at people who bought mounts on the cash shop, but I've done so inwardly. With this mount, I don't think I'm going to be able to keep myself from openly mocking anyone I see with it.
I'd rather we didn't have a cash shop at all, but if we have to have one I'd rather it remained completely separate. If they introduced this mount as a reward for say, doing 1,000 dungeons, or you could just buy it off the cash shop right away, I would be far more pissed at all the people that got it day one because they shelled out the cash, while anyone that doesn't want to waste their money has to spend ages farming for it.
I still think that a cash shop has absolutely no place in a subscription based game, but having it be completely removed from the main game is the lesser of two evils.
Of course you don't think that content is being cut. You don't care. Why would you? lol
If you don't think that putting things for money instead in the game is bad, then well???? Of course I'm a bit surprised, I can only feel bad that the community accept this kind of thing. Wait for the next mount that costs 50 dollars and is exclusive too. Don't forget the future boosters and leveling potions, after all ~every mmo has those~~.
Oh no, you know, Eifahlwyn, the current f2p model and all their cons exist today because things are that way, not because people support it and make it grow.
I don't see many (if any, but the thread is 20 pages long now, so I might have missed them, if so) "whales" calling people who don't want to purchase Mogstation items cheap or poor. It seems to be a disagreement regarding the principles and future of the game.
Laugh away! I'll be laughing too, as I soar thru the skies on him, because funny mount is funny.
