Purely personal opinion here: I don't consider grinding FATEs that are already in the game for slightly different rewards to be "new content."

Now if they added completely new FATEs with music and enemies themed around Yokai Watch that we had to kill? I would consider that to be "new content."

Like this game doesn't have plenty of other immersion breaking things (do you complain about all the swimsuit clad Miqo'te running around too? Or the maids?). What about someone dressing their character like a character from a non-FF game? Does that break your immersion too? Because according to your statement Yokai Watch isn't acceptable because it isn't related to FF.

The only crossovers into FFXIV so far have been Square Enix games (Lightning Event, Dragon Quest and, now, Yokai Watch). I guess it's possible they do something with Disney due to Kingdom Hearts (I find it unlikely, however). I don't see the issue with them promoting their games within FFXIV as small, fun events like these.

As much as you say not to use the straw-man that other immersion breaking things are in the game, it's a fact. They've already done it.

I'm not agreeing with the OP but you guys comparing Miqo's in swimsuits to a completely FF-unrelated event are holding no water. There's a massive difference. Also, the OP may have had a problem with the other events too such as Dragon Quest. Just because they've done this before doesn't mean he can't dislike this event.

I personally don't really care about it either way, I'll probably even glam some of the rewards if they look nice.

As I watch a white mage wielding a staff with boobs, while wearing a swimsuit and fat chocobo head that is 3x the size of his body, all while accompanied by his chocobo companion dressed as a black mage and his wind up "Cursor" minion (a giant floating finger), I can't help but feel that this event is the absolute least of our concerns when it comes to immersion.

If you've managed to remain immersed this far, seeing a couple of weapons and items that don't have a tie in with FF lore won't make a big difference.

Jason, Predator, Freddy Krueger, etc in Mortal Kombat...people said wtf? When it came out it wasn't a big deal anymore, the game continued.

Same prediction for this event, you'll get used to it and continue.

You have to actively seek this out to go do it. It's not being thrust in your face. The Lightning events were hardly immersive. Last year's tribute to FFXI was certainly not immersive. Don't go do the event, it's hardly being forced on you, and a lot of people are looking forward to it.

God am I so glad you don't decide things for us. I would not enjoy this game so much. I have never even heard of Youkai Watch but I want those mounts and minions I think they are cool looking and fun. So glad I can enjoy the fun things this game tries to give us. And of course people have to complain about everything.
