Bored...

I stopped playing a few months ago; I finally came to the realization that grinding out ranks was a waste of my time. Why? I don't want to play a shell of a game that feels like a chore when I can wait months (or years) and play a complete game that is fun AND rewarding. So, for now, I come here to see how the game is progressing.

Ah that is a very good point but do you think they will have enough changes in place to actually promote it at E3. I'm not so sure, if they promote it at E3 and people come back and they haven't got the content ready then they will just leave again only this time it will be harder to get them back as they would be less likely to give it a 3rd shot after being burned twice. I don't think they will do much promoting until they think the game is ready, which will be PS3 release.

Who knows though maybe they do have a load of stuff ready to go and are just waiting for the finalised battle system and job system. If that's the case though then this goes back to communication and they should tell us.

i am usually on neutral side, but "it" had hit me last week. Ive done nothing in the past 4hours logged in, i went to chop trees for 1hour and NPC everything, i am burnt out.. especially after knowing i won't be getting anything for at least another month and a half, it's kinda sad.

I forget when he made that promise but he's kept it the past 2 months. Argue all you want about the size or original intent but there are indeed two patches per month for the last 2.

Also the post your e referring to does make a good point. Why would you want to rush him further when rushing this game out was the reason it sucked in the first place? I'm perfectly fine with them taking their time and making sure it's good. Yoshida has said multiple times on multiple topics that he doesn't want to put anything in the game without sufficient reason or purpose.

Have you seen the content of .a patches? These are not patches at all, hotfixes with stuff that took almost no time to work on. I can do without 3d TEXT popping up when i join a party or the postion/size or color of my HP bar....

The short of this is that, as far as being bored with what's available now goes (also hi Alexia), you can safely put this game on the dusty shelf of shattered dreams until mid-June at any rate until 1.18 to check back in, as per the most recent letter from the developer.

What more one can do in the interim I don't know.

For the 500th time. Development on major things are not released quickly. If you're bored, do something else til everything is done. Also, since Dec there have been a lot of changes, but I understand that there isn't anything drastic to catch your eye.

MMOs, before they are released, have content being worked on a year in advance. FFXIV does not have this luxury and their new direction in development started in January. This is the major difference between FFXIV and other MMOs who had a clear direction 8-12 months before their launch making sure they had a lot of content for each of their version updates/patches.

Don't expect anything huge til June as the letter states.

1.17a included a new quest system. Yeah it wasn't much, but it's a nice way to get guild marks.

I see two patches. I'm aware they were smaller but they were still patches. He never promised size or amount of content, only that there would be 2.

If you have hit the burn out wall, take a break. honestly its a game its is supposed to be a digital distraction for your down time. if your not having fun with it walk a way for a while. or if its one specific aspect of the game that's running it for you don't mess with it.

Hell i'm in the middle of a bit of a burn out my self. i don't log in that much as of late. but when i do i have fun. be it hunting nm's or running side quests or hanging out with my shell mates doing what ever.

Dear lord. Development does take time but this is beyond absurd. NO feature I've worked on in any genre has taken as long as the tiny small minuscule edits they're doing. I've seen entire animation systems being re-written and hand animated from ground-up in the time that SE has managed to scale up dodos.

It's another thing to cut SE some slack because of bad management but accepting that they have accomplished NOTHING substantial is just blind faith.

XIV will not be at E3, they'd have to be really dumb or have something stupidly insane up their sleeves.

The fact is that no one, not you or I, have worked on an SE project. You might have an understanding in development, but you obviously haven't worked on a large scale project.

Also, major changes don't affect just the ascetics of the game. It affect the lore, too. How to incorporate these changes to the classes and changing them to jobs affects so much you really need to figure out the best way to execute that and make it cohesive to the already implemented world. Development of this game took about... what? Five years and it was still not completed, why? Because it's not completely about small time development of stand alone objects.

If development did not take so much time there would be no need for advance planning and no need to take half a decade to finalize a game.

Played everyday from Alpha till January 21st? Then i told myself "If i can't have fun in an MMO anymore, then i'm not going to play".

I went back to FF11 and messed around till March till it got boring again (it's losing its flavor faster & faster these days).

Now i've been logging back into FF14 each patch, but i log off at the end of the day/night and wait until the next patch. It's sad when i can't even log back in the next day because of how bland & boring everything is.
There was a time when i had a little bit of fun with FF14, but that quickly ended.

I won't play unless there is fun to be had.
I'm sticking around and hoping FF14 makes a comeback, because it's the last MMO that I'm willing to devote myself to (with the exception of maybe TERA, but doubtful).

Everyone around the forums just want to whine & moan about slow/lackluster updates & who is/isn't right or wrong. If you're one of the many caught up in this negativity then I'm sorry, sux to be you.

To those who still put yourself through the torture that is FF14 and/or the Forums, you should really think about just not playing and don't stress over it at all. Just check back with each update or 2. Unless you enjoy it as is.
This game probably won't be too enjoyable until the end of the year or next year. I don't know about you guys, but i'm going to find fun elsewhere until/IF this gets fixed/updated.

E3 needs to be huge, a miracle! that's the only thing that will save this game now. There is no way to know what kind of content or info will be ready then as they keeping all the info on the low lately.

If they are smart they will have a lot of stuff to show. Future content, armor,weapons, items, new spells, new class system, new battle system, PS3 trailer, patch 1.18 trailer, expansion set teaser, artwork, in-depth info for grand companies, chocobo mounts and other transportation methods, even stuff that will not be ready anytime soon will be teased.

Now that will give the game a 2nd chance and will have a lot of people maybe be excited for the PS3 release.

But if all they are going to show is a PS3 trailer with the current stuff we have on PC then they shouldn't even bother....

No it didnt, it copy/pasted what was already ingame (class quests) and threw on an icon above npcs. This is how SE gets away with it lol.

Thats a lie, there are tons of stuff in our files right now that is "locked" but fully complete. Even some mobs. Not only that but they've been in this state for months now.

Every skill above rank 50 is fully implemented, i dont see why they couldnt just take these and put them over our current spells/animations to keep people from whining then update the 50+ come level cap raise, but nope SE dont think logically.

I don't believe the whole wait until 1.18 thing... That's what everyone said for 1.16 and then for 1.17 and then for Grand companies. Truth is at this point, with no information available, 1.18 might just be as lame as 1.17 for all we know. It will introduce ground work for the battle system but that same was said for 1.17, that will introduce "ground work" for future content... yet it sucked imo.

To all the people saying if you dont like it now just go play something else and come back late... do you really thing if someone goes playing WOW or any other mmo and then start having a great time, that they will give it up and then come back to FFXIV just because they added 2 dungeons and auto-attack to the game?

Class quests can only be done 3 times for a job. This can be done every day.

Like I said, it's a nice way to get guild marks.

Not sure if this has been stated, but people need to realize that the very first player poll voted in FAVOUR of a long, drawn-out change. Also, the majority of the patches have been solid ground work, not visual game content. If you don't have patience for a game which stated that it would be taking a large portion of time and devoting it to changing the foundation, then yes, you should definitely quit this game.

I don't like the "start of the battle system changes" verbiage. Sounds like when their claim that they were focussing mostly on the battle overhauls for the last 4 months as response to slow development was a fib. Doesn't sound like they have much if all they have is a start.

Historically, when SE says they have a start of something, it usually means something stupidly trivial. Like yeah, all it is is auto attack slapped onto this system.

Sounds like more bluff to stall tactics. 4 months: we're focussing mostly on battles!
At month 5: we're starting to change the battles.

No, at 4 months we're already playing the final overhaul.

"we want to get it right" has become a chronic bluff. No, they just want to develop at a snail's pace. I have little expectation that the new battle engine will be more desperate flailing that needs severe correction by the players after it makes no sense even after a half year of planning and "making sure it's right."

it may have been a random reward, kinda like how some people get 5 shards instead of 100, or some random item.
I somehow doubt you got this every time, and itl probly be a rare occurance.

Honestly, guild marks are so easy to get right now just doing rank 15+ leves(especialy for crafting) that having more ways to get themn almpst seems a waste at this point.

No one said it was revolutionary. Someone said that the a patches where just quickfixes and tweaks. I was just pointing out we got a new quest system with (apparently) random rewards. Besides, they aren't that much like class quests anyway. These are much faster and have a time limit, and they don't care where or how you get your stuff as long as you get it to them.

Guys most of the community reps on vacation due to Golden Week. I assume we'll get info on various things next week.

These guys are the main ones that post info on the Japanese boards and most of them haven't been online since last week. Also that's true for the Dev team, but I assume they're too busy working to check the boards or on vacation too.

the talk about the vacation alone is a slap in the face. I cant even sleep if i have so much to do and to get right. i don't get all this anymore... honestly. it's not even funny anymore.. but YEY we have egghats...

If you think the game is boring then maybe you should take a break and go do something else for a little while. It is weird... when the servers were down in Japan everyone was freaking out about how all they wanted to do was get back on the game, they missed the game, etc. etc. Then when the servers come back you all complain that you are bored. I honestly don't understand people..

Well Yoshi-P said that he's still working in his letter so I assume the team has been busy. The community reps are probably just lowly office workers, so I don't care if they get a vacation. But I wouldn't be surprised if Yoshi and team took off for a few days considering MOST of the Japanese holidays(at the ones you can get paid time off for) fall during this week.

I didn't want to say it but i was thinking the same thing as we. As a business, with a product that failed at lunch and that is still failure more then 6 months later. Even worst the development was slowed down due to the earthquake. And i'm sure a big part of the staff left for vacation.. not that they don't deserve any but now is not the time.

Another thing about the easter event... it was a waste of time and even after SE told us that they have dedicated teams for different aspects of the game is the lamest excuse ever. You got a team for festivals? Really? You have no content to show yet, no changes to the battle system or classes ready, yet you can afford having a team working on easter eggs? I say forget festivals for this year and put that staff to work with teams that have more important work to do.

Because that was back when Yoshi-P was making promises and got people all excited thinking this will be the next great MMO in the coming weeks/patches....

Once the game came back online we saw things got slower, communication stopped and patches gave us nothing to be excited about.

Summer is coming and as far as im concerned they can shut down the servers again and get some AC if that will make them work faster.
