As to your idea of telling the party or logging off, I will tell you this much. If I had a real emergency im not going to take the time to logout of a game. I'm going to deal with the situation.

I think Takezo might have more of a problem with people calling this guy out and asking for his server to blacklist him over it, rather than that someone who is AFK should be removed from the party. At least, this is my problem. Public shaming is just as much harassment as purposely trolling a dungeon group (whether or not he did, who can say), and is extremely unnecessary. I don't think the OP posted this here to shame him either, I'm talking about a few of the comments on previous pages. Witch hunts aren't cool.
I cant tell is this idiot is being serious or just trying to troll.. honestly. My brain is absolutely baffled. Hey captain intellect... you DO realize it was a DUTY FINDER group right? So tell me, how do you "make friends and avoid problematic people." ... in a random group?
Secondly.. a kick function is a NEEDED command. If this guy had a LEGIT emergency and had to poof.. how many innocent people just suffered because of it with NO way out for them?
This is an MMORPG. This is not fuggin diablo 3. Socialization is a primary feature of the game. HOW do you expect those players to "make friends and not run with bad people." ... if they cant run with anyone to find out who those good and bad people ARE?!
It's a paradox of stupid worthy of a Doctor Who episode.
A kick feature WILL be abused. If it is implemented, how long do you think it will be before party leaders are kicking people for watching cutscenes? This specific mission is part of the main story, and people want to see it played out. If people could do that, it would become a nightmare and borderline impossible for someone to enjoy the game the way it was intended to be.
If it is set up as a vote kick system though, then you need to have a majority of people who are willing to be dicks about people watching cutscenes. Its not a party leader gets to do whatever they want system, but more of a majority rule kick system.
I don't think our servers are set up in the way that 5/7 people voting to kick someone would be jerks enough to kick someone for watching a cutscene.
Lol I've partied this guy before. He did not afk in the boss room when I was with him, but I can confirm he likes to afk (except when running through the dungeon >.>)
People can troll, grief and act like jerks without such a system in place, too. The difference is that in one of those cases you have to put up with it, whereas in the other you can either kick them (if the majority of the party agrees), or you could get kicked by a bunch of trolls (who would just grief in a different way if they lacked that power). Are either systems perfect? No. There is no such thing as a perfect system, but at least situations like the posted one (accident, or not) wouldn't completely halt the progress of a group after 30min - 1/2hrs in the queue, and then the time it would take to clearing up to that part.
* And in this case, it only takes one troll to grief a group (as one can do this with intent), whereas in your situation it would take 5+.
Ha i have fought with Rinoa before i am surprised you lot didn't go Bruce Lee on his ass and boot him over the wall. I agree on the need for a kick function but only once individuals have met certain criteria. (must be a auto kick function and not a player generated kick) For example if some noob sits there for a certain duration or doesn't reach checkpoints after a allotted time frame then he is auto kicked. If they lag out then the game needs to give the option to auto kick.
I don't want player generated kicks because the "smug" cloud of elitism has already reached astonishing levels on our server within just a few weeks. Giving a kick function will allow the annoying level of elitists a chance to boot people with less the superior weapons or skills making the game experience horrible for so many players.
Vote to kick or this keeps happening, and similar situations, I cannot be any clearer on that. The fact this game has no vote to kick system is sickening. So ANY one jackass who feels like completely screwing over all those other people is free to?
What are you smoking SE?
My favourite problem is tank s ruining in ignoring everything then popping a chest and abandoning the duty. I've had this happen twice both with me as a healer SCH. But I really want to know how that happened, when a battle start everyone is put on the hate table. I know this is a fact as that when you on SMN with a pet out set to it's default combat style, as soon as you get any enimty you pet attacks the first thing on that list. I ust get into the battle area and my Garuda is already flinging off spells and I'm just targeting and casting my first spell. Maybe he ninja jumped into the battle at the very last second by being out of the battle area as the battle started then at ~13/14 seconds jumped in and afked?
For all of those talking about a potential emergency, simply put, the evidence isn't in favor of that. We had one of these afk'ers in my party last night, and the 30 minute auto-timeout boots them the same as anyone else. If he managed to stay there the entire time without being booted, it's because he was present, but just didn't want to contribute. If there really had been an emergency, he would have disappeared after half an hour.
TL;DR: No. Just no.
With or without kick, people who need to go through the DF will be trolled. At least with it you have some semblance of control over more situations than others.
And you do realise there are other games with the kick system that employ multiple support tools to make it more fair, right?
I say an in-game karma system gets implemented that allows a LARGE number of downvotes to render a player's experience in a negative fashion. Whether, it is higher prices for everything, teleports, etc. or a lockout from participating in any social events such as FATEs, groups, etc.
We need a tool to police are own playerbase.
I didn't mean to make people blacklist him or anything . I just wanted to show that there should be a kick feature or something that will solve this. Even if a person has a legitimate reason to just have to go without leaving the party, we should be able to kick the person. Maybe better than that it would be if a person would be kicked from an instance automatically if they're not moving for 10m. I didn't want to name people. I really didn't even think about not showing his name and I'm sorry for that. I edited my SS probably a little too late.
Actually Rinoa I have no problem with your post. The people that called for the witch hunt are the people I take issue with. I think something needs done, I am just not smart enough to know what. I guess vote kicking would be the least abusable function.
OMG dude, we need a vote to kick, had it in DCUO and it was only ever used for the greater good. Problem players need kicked, I NEVER saw a group kick someone for fun, there was always a reason.
I'm tired as hell of some of you peoples reasoning to avoid this, part of me suspects you may be the same folks making the DF such a "fun" place.
We need vote to kick..3of4 7of8 that's how DC does it and no one has to deal with what the OP did there..
I got just one question OP. Why in the world are there so many people with toons named after a character in FF? How cliche. Cant think of anything more original than that?
Maybe thats why he decided to troll. He was fed up with your lack of creativity...
How about an afk timeout? Like if a player hasn't made an action in 30 seconds... 45 seconds... 60 seconds gone?
Rinoa probably picked that name for the same reason that you picked a red faced hulk impersonator with a beard that looks like it came straight off a rats ass. It made her happy. :)
You should just leave, his goal is to make you sit there and do nothing for a long time..
Lol. I've been named Yuna in all other mmorpg's I've played. But in this one you can't pick Yuna, so Rinoa Heartilly is a cute name and I've cosplayed her before :). It's not because it's a FF mmo. I've been playing FF since I was 7, I just love it.
I didn't get bothered by the other comment because this made me laugh. lol
They're calling attention to a problem, of course they're trying to attract attention, how else do you get a problem noticed than to attract attention to it?
If you ask yourself questions and then get an answer I think you have bigger things to worry about than a vote to kick system. A vote to kick isn't about controlling others, it's about protecting yourself.
A kick feature would solve this exact issue, and other issues like people deliberately afk'ing until the last boss, or coming in naked and expecting to be carried, or spewing inappropriate things in chat that you can't blist. Of course it moves the problem elsewhere. You're not going to convince that troll to be nice, and we shouldn't have to waste our time doing so. Kick him and move on.
Explain to me exactly how kicking someone from a group for their behavior empowers them. Do you actually believe the mindless drivel you're typing?
This is a game, it's ALL ABOUT my enjoyment and progress. I have EVERY RIGHT to enjoy myself so long as I don't inconvenience others. This applies to everyone. The moment you decide to enjoy yourself at the expense of others is the moment you lose the right to participate with them.
This issue is bigger than just someone sitting afk locking out a boss. There are a variety of reasons for which a vote kick system is needed.
Most people playing this game have friends, most do things with those friends. Those friends aren't always on.
Why should someone be held hostage to running things only with friends?
Your post is insulting, you have this air of superiority in what you've typed and attempt to sound intelligent. It isn't backed up at all; however, with anything resembling rational thought or critical thinking.
I can only hope that you're just an excellent troll, but given the content of a lot of the discussions on these forums... I'm just not sure.
