I've noticed this since the first day I played. I assumed it was my internet connection but is definitely not the case considering connection speed. It's painfully obvious in dungeons, even as BRD.

That's the hardest to get any accurate measure of.
We know that the time for our data to travel to or from the server is half the ping time, which we can see in Resource Monitor.
We know that the update period is 300ms (worst case).
We know that there is time required for the server to process that data and generate the response. We don't know how long that is typically.
One way you can see it is when you right click an interaction. I'm assuming the click is sent to the server immediately so the transit time would be half the ping time. The interaction cast bar starts after a noticeable delay, so take that delay and subtract half the ping time again for the packet to travel from the server to you and that's the server lag.
It seems to be around 1/2 a second, its hard to judge. What do others think?
yes its roughly 500+ms
For me the delay is somewhere between 0.4 and 0.5 second.
Which is pretty accurate, though I ping the server for 80ms my latency in game is about 150.
The lag spikes I get that last 2-3 seconds are random and increase during peak.
My latency doesn't seem to spike from my side how ever.
I think anyone can agree that dying from an AOE marker you're not even inside of is pretty lame. Please fix this SE :)
I don't believe he is lying, just unaware. As someone mentioned earlier, he's a tank(non-caster) which means everything he does is instant. This latency affects everyone for sure, but as a WHM I agree this issue is DEVASTATING for caster. Everything we do has a timer and bright flashy animations and it doesn't help that we're so squishy. I've eventually adapted to predict red zones and movement, and of course can use sprint on a whim as a caster w/o risk but I agree this shouldn't even be an issue!
At someone said earlier, having them at least lower the tick rate in instances to match other MMOs would have a huge impact on our ability to survive as a whole. Even if I have managed to avoid stuff, it hurts my soul having to heal so many others that don't.
Have they made an official comment about the tick rate? or have they even admitted that this is all a problem?
Still waiting for the defenders to show up and say that asking for less lag is entitlement.
I'll take that as a no on an official statement,
The last official comment was from the beta forums:
It is still in accepted bugs: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...s-everybody%29Quote:
Area Attacks and Latency Issues
Producer and director Yoshi-P here.
Thank you for all of your feedback on latency issues and the evasion of enemy attacks. As we continue working to address these issues in time for phase 4 and release, I'd like to inform you all of the current situation. This post will focus on area attacks that are difficult to evade, or still connect even if you appear to have avoided it.
Damage taken when Ifrit uses Eruption.
When Ifrit used eruption in phase 3, the animation had a momentary build-up before the explosion. Because of this momentary buildup, there was a slight delay between the server's check and the explosion. This has already been corrected for phase 4 and release.
Damage taken for what looked like a near miss.
1. Registering Player Damage
In phase 3, when judging whether a character was standing in an attack's area of impact, your position was checked using a circle around your character to represent the space your character stands in.
Furthermore, to keep the different races balanced, the radius of this circle was the same for all characters. Because of this, even if you appeared to have barely escaped the area of effect, a portion of the circle was still within range. This created the illusion that you barely evaded attack, with varying results depending on your race.
For phase 4 and release, this circle has been reduced to a single point at the center of where your character is standing to more accurately determine your position.
2. Enemy Progress Bars and Area of Impact
Being an online game, there will always be a minimal delay when input is received from the player and sent back after being processed by the server.
In FFXIV: ARR, your position is checked by the server once every 0.3 seconds. This timing is synced and processed according to the servers to prevent lag between your input and what you see.
During phase 3, however, this syncing did not take place due to stringent server checks that took place, causing lag between what you saw on the enemy progress bar and your character's positioning. As a result, even if you appeared to be outside the area of impact when the progress bar was filled, damage was still taken.
Adjustments are being made to reduce lag as much as possible, and syncing should improve the timing between enemy cast bars, area of effect markers, and the actual attacks.
Rest assured that we're doing what we can to make sure players can safely evade attacks by watching enemy cast bars and markers for area attacks.
Players overseas were also affected by having to access the Japan data center in Version 1.0, as this further delayed the relay of data from the server. With the establishment of a regional data center and the above measures being taken to improve syncing with the servers, we will continue working to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience for all of our players.
(Even with a great connection, I think there's still maybe a 0.1 second margin of error with the cast bar, so make sure to get out of the way when playing with your party. )
Realistically I think there is little chance that it will get better than what we have now. Not enough players feel this is an important bug. Check out the number of likes to see why I say that.
PS3 Memory limitations. I hope you'll enjoy your newfound friend.
Tonight it has been really bad, pretty much everyone in my FC has been having issues and I just got 90ked kind of really annoying.
there is server lag.. a lot of us experiencing this during a simple fight making it nearly impossible..
what is this, new servers, you say.

This helped me and a couple others quite a bit with the aoe issues. Specifically the TcpAckFrequency, but the rest might help you as well.
Now, its still their servers with the problem and the fact that it does not check positional data often enough, or on keypress like other games. This fix just helps make it more manageable on your end.
Yeah it was almost not playable... Was doing Garuda with my FC and Garuda kept vanishing randomly for ppl.. She couldn't even get into target... was really annoying. And I won't start with the issue that the screen froze for 1-2 sec. randomly ... SE has to fix that it turn to an really issue.
Its very sad that If you do Titan you have to fight against the lag and not against the Monster ... If they won't fix that and keep disigning mobs like Titan with that lag there is no chance I keep playing this game. Hopefully till 2.1 this is fixed <.<
I'm used to the regular amount of delay when communicating with the server but we decided to run CC with an LS group tonight. One guy was complaining about lag the entire time. I had been seeing spikes in lag throughout the day but I was also running fates with large amounts of people so I put it off to just that. However during our run on Chimera everyone started stalling in place for a second repeatedly. Making it damn near impossible to move around and avoid the multitude of aoe's that the boss throws out.
I could be wrong but I think they need to start working in some weekly maintenance.
would be nice to see DoT's on their own timer instead of getting stacked all together and on a server based tick system also....I guess these issues only really mess with us end game players, but it's no excuse not to fix it.
I have to agree - the game at times is borderline unplayable in an instance (sometimes). This wasn't an issue in 1.0 really (or its beta), or the start of beta of ARR (or any other MMO I have played while waiting for re-release with the exact same rig and the exact same provider). Now, its Russian roulette when I sign on at night. Simply put, something needs to be done and it seems like it's being swept under the rug in the hopes that since it doesn't effect everyone, they'll get a pass.
Shortly before the last big maintenance I was having 500-2000 ping on Odin and on instance servers. After the maintenance, I'm having anywhere from 1k-6k ping on Odin, which is ridiculous. On instance servers I'm okay, at 200 ping or below. My ping was okay before the first 10 hour DF maintenance, but this is the worst ping/lag I have ever had in any game I've played. I hope they fix it soon. I don't think it has anything to do with my internet or computer (highest speed available locally), and I don't think my ISP is throttling my internet. I really hope they get it fixed soon though, as I'm tired of being hit by aoe and such that I've already moved out of and letting my party down. It makes me afraid to go on my healer classes too, as I don't want anyone dying on my watch. =/
I made a thread again demanding an answer to all these issues with all the threads of the same type compiled in it:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ific-answer%29
If it gets deleted for not having a format or whatever I'll remake it in the general forum.
There are horrible lag issues during prime time, and you can see it if you ping the NA servers. Normally it is ~110ms, but when its laggy it shoots over ~250ms. It makes doing red circle fights impossible, and people will think you are a retard unless you tell them you got lag issues. They still will think you are a tard. I was doing chimera during the lag spikes and I got hit by almost every AoE... did it later in the wee hours of the morning... never got hit once.
Aside from the 0.3 second poll I've started experiencing increased lag over the last few days. Yesterday 3-5 PST I was experiencing delays of up to a couple seconds. Ran Haukke Manor to help a friend and it was just terrible lag during the whole run. At one point I thought I was going to DC. Not sure if this is SE's problem or some router is experiencing problems along the way but it's just terrible, and it only occurs with XIV.
Contacted my ISP, they checked what they could and so did I.
According to them it's SE their servers.
160 Mb/s 90 ping and 110-150 latency in game but plagued by 2-3 seconds delay.
I ping 7 with their net work and before leaving Europe 18.
There is no package loss and no lag spikes from my side up to the server.
Today was the first time I experienced any lag but it made the game unplayable. Red circles could not be avoided. I watched my party members stop moving every 3 seconds even though they were still running around. The lag stayed all afternoon until after midnight or 2am PDT.
Not acceptable at all. Nothing wrong with my internet/computer either. Others also complained of lag.
It's you SE, not us.
I had the occasional lag spike but its not really that bad. I beat titan HM several times.
Basically the red circles and animation have a slight delay to every ability in the game. If you are in the red circle when it goes away you will get hit, even if you move out and then the animation goes off.
I sometimes get 5-10 seconds lag, which of course means I die a lot, but this isn't in dungeons but out questing or doing FATES. Happened to me last night, huge lag spike while fighting a mob, lag disappears, I am lying there dead :(
To the OP: could you add a link to this video which clearly shows the problems
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3leMnErroL0
yep it's lagging a lot. For me it did start 20min ago on shiva
Added video to post.
And here's another video clearly showing the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsHuXAl-bOY
At 6:21 landslide cast begins
At 6:22 player leaves aoe with cast bar at 75%
At 6:24 player is hit by landslide and knocked off
I suggest adding this one as well :)
