Why do people not like summoner?

Mind I am not saying to get rid of the dots or spells or change the class upside down since I feel the dps is fine as I keep saying my beef is with the pets themselves thats it. Oh and your ideas are really good if garuda could do that it would be awesome. I also agree with you on ifrit I do recall a summoner saying that ifrit should be the go to burst pet.

Pretty sure we are on the same page now :P I do wish there was a few things I could do more with the pet to be honest. I also have to say even with Obey - the first two abilities can be used freely from the pet's point of view - which totally sucks on scholar because EoS' AoE heal is off that 'obey' cooldown. I hope they do spend some time tweaking the class, but overall I hope it isn't a revamp like some people are calling out for - I think that's a bit too quick to ask for is all.

I'm a SMN. I recently played endgame dungeons and I felt disappointed having thought that this dungeon would have been a lot easier if I was a burst damage dealer instead of DoTs. Especially when dealing with adds. So now, I'm switching to Dragoon. Honestly, SMN is a great job, and I don't care about the puny Egis and how SMNs are nothing like "summoners" (although I hate how I can't let them cast their skills while the caster is channeling), but when it comes to endgame dungeons I'm sure most parties will prefer DRG, MNK, BRD or BLM. Or maybe I'm just a bad SMN. LOL

I have no real problems with SMNs in my group. But: they have a high skill cap and not everyone can fulfill it. How often the goddamn pet broke a sleep or other cc? Or annoys in some other way? As a petclass, you have to micromanage your pet. And many SMNs fail to fulfill this task.
The dot-damage is nice in fights with much movement, but the summoner drops down in 'kill adds fast'-fights (my personal feeling). But usually you're not alone in group and have a burster with you, so np.
It all depends on the matchup and i have to say, I like the point. With this, every class and job is different and every group-constellation got a slighty different feeling for the same fight.
The only thing is that the community has to see the positive thing in variety of classes and doesnt 'lock out' several classes because they 'arent perfect for matchup X'.

Summoner has no problem with burst, given that the add lives for at least 6 seconds, and there is only one/two adds

Bio2->Miasma->Bio | Fester->Ruin2 if you need it, and a spur/rouse'd pet is some pretty high potency (and remember, being a caster we have much higher base weapon damage than physical classes).

With more than 2 adds, our burst is lower but with bane and shadow flare, we have one of the best sustained aoe damage in the game.

There is no fight pre-coil (I have no experience with coil, maybe someone wants to chime in) that a summoner isn't useful for. Even bees on demon wall (if you have a single target LB, ignore that add, and dot up the other, otherwise use your LB then burst fester on the one you agree to kill).

Summoners are great on cleave fights...this is pretty obvious, but you do the most damage of any class when there is 1 boss and the occasional 1 add...esp if you can bane your dots. Otherwise, contagion the boss when you need to switch targets, and enjoy your 20-30 seconds of essentially double damage.

its really an evoker from ff3 not a summoner.
summoners are badass evokers are not.

i not gonna give my opinion on summoner cause i am still in pex ;o but i have actually a question :p ^^

it s seems like the stuff don t scale with our pet ? which is very annoying especially in the end game when we need to get more and more dps... so if someone can answer me :p
