ffxi capped at 640,000 subs at its peak... it no where near reached 2.5million at any 1 point. Only mmo to ever reach those numbers is WoW.

No i remember SE posting that 11 hit a mil subs @ one point

they'll just use it as an example and learn more about how to make an MMO

Honestly, FFXIV stopped having a future for me awhile ago, I can't even log on anymore.

My prediction:

Broad term, but it's obviously implied(i hope) that you meant to not count certain browser or asian games in your analysis.

Summer 2012, SE announces that they will no longer try to hide the fact that FFXIV was intended to be a catgirl play and costume making simulation.

FFXIV will choose between casual or hardcore and lose half its subscribers. Idk

It was more than just 1 million according to SquareEnix. Active subscriptions at that.

You're right i was thinking subs. But yea, i do remember them talking about the 1mil mark not too long ago.

My prediction for the future:

SE will add new things to XIV. Some players will say SE ruined the game and these things weren't needed. Some players will say SE saved the game and these things were needed. Both camps will claim they are the majority and the other side should go play WoW.

They hit 1 million active characters (Characters with atleast one job above level 30)
They never hit 1 mil subs.

Honestly as much as I wish FFXIV was stacking up to other games the fact is that its not.
The game is way to old school and just doesn’t satisfy today’s gaming community,
A realm reborn looks like a slight improvement on the initial game, but all I am really seeing from
It is a lot more flashy lights and a bunch of things that should have already been in the game, like
Auction house and mail system and I really wish they would stop trying to advertise their jump as
Something amazing because it is not, jumping has been around in most mmos from the get go if their
New jump is their main selling point of realm reborn ( which it seems like it is) I think they are doomed.

From the start of FFXIV to this point it has been nothing but empty promises and false hope that the game could succeed, I remember starting the game back in beta and we were told that there would be new customization for our characters on actual release, I told my friends not to get there hopes up and they and the community of the game kept reassuring me that it wouldn’t be as short cut as in beta, so anyway the release day I go and get my copy and install the game and just as I suspected it was the exact same boring customization as in beta, the reason I bring this up is taking a look at the alpha (with the exception of the new sex’s on some races) there really is no stand out differences in customization its still just the exact same hair styles and faces used in both ffxi and ffxiv.

Games like Guild wars 2 have the right idea, by eliminating pointless, annoying and meaningless content
From the mmo structure, they created a world in which all players can work together with less competition and more satisfaction, something I really hated in both FFXIV and FFXI was the Cold stone fact that unless you are in a linkshell and favored by the leaders it was very difficult to Progress through the games end content, but when you stop and think is this actually necessary well the answer is no in fact by making the game this way you are driving away players because the normal and majority of gamers don’t like this.
Also by making a game more player friendly you end up with a better community, players are more willing to help and don’t walk around with aggressive attitudes because the game doesn’t stress them out or consume all there free time

If you want to defend square enix in all of their decisions then you are entitled to do so, this is just my opinion and I wish to see the game go in the right direction rather then fail over and over in fact
I wish they would shutdown for a good 2-3 years and rebuild the game right.

(8 years of FFXI Achieved - 1 year of FFXIV wasted)

Necropost sure, but it's still a good one to bring back up. I predict bad things, but hope for good things.

i did not know this was dead forum but made my own
