Gold Sellers

I have 60+ on my blacklist, all gil sellers... I think 4 of those have been deleted which means the others are still active players. I was copying and pasting the /tell or /shout and sending it to SE thru the cheating submission, but given that only 4 accounts have been deleted... not sure what they are doing with those complaints.

A block list should be used for players that you don't want to listen to, not filled up with gold spammers. Aion had this same issue and it drove me away and a lot of other people.
MMOs have had features out there to block them for years, so the fact that SE failed to implement anything to block them from the start is a major failure in my opinion.

-Lvl chat restrictions: 1-9; 10-19; 20-29; etc....
-Right click - report spam is even better. And it auto adds to a separate block list. If more than XX # of people block the same person they get banned entirely from chat.
-Shout time restrictions.

The fact that I've reported over 100 spammers using the in-game support desk and only 6 have been deleted from my block list is a serious disappointment. If something isn't done in the next month or so to address this issue, it will cause me to cancel the subscription, as it just screams "F-you, don't care, deal with it" attitude towards the player base.

Exactly! Rather than whining about it, DO something about it. Immediately report it via the game. Copy and paste the tell/shout whatever in the 'detail' section so SE can see exactly what was said. Be the change you want, be proactive, report the gil sellers.

Some of those may have been hijacked accounts. People have been posting on the forums about this going on. Folks need better passwords and need to use Tokens to secure their accounts. Hopefully, SE is making them get a Token when they help them get their account back.

I actually deleted the entire blacklist when I got to 75 and it turns out none of them are still going by that point. Though my blacklist is back up to 8 now.

Maybe we can get some productive feedback from SE if we try approach them from a diffrent stance?

SE? How can we as a playerbase help solve/minimize the RMT problem? What is of value for u as feedback? Is there any help for u if we keep reporting every RMT action we come across, or is it just to overwhelming so that it cast shadow over other reporting trough ur ingame system?
I hope and think the playerbase is more than happy to help be a part of the solution (most part of it atleast).

This is amazing and probably the only way that it would actually work if SE was willing to have a monitor play the game... I mean they will pay someone to monitor this site and suspend people who make comments but not gil sellers in game... Awesome priorities at least our chat is safe from spammers...

That would. Not work because gold sellers would just have several people delivering to one person. What might work is if there was a cap on how much someone can receive in a day or even a week.

Frankly, I would much prefer people not being able to send me a Tell unless they were either of the following:

a) On my friend's list.
b) In my Free company.

I do not bother at all with Say and Shout. It's the tell spam that pisses me off.

Ps3 players actually have it easier to add to blacklist.

You do know there is a slash command for blacklist?

It's /blacklist add "name here"
With ps3 our on screen keyboard has a predictive text dictionary and it will recall order patterns of typed sentences so all I have to do is... I tell the game to send a tell to the gold seller and then use the d pad and delete /tell I then pen the keypad and type /b and select from the dictinary blacklist and then it predicts my next word to be add and then the quotes. Then I use the dpad to insert the 2nd quotes and then press x twice. Quick and painless.

Ive only had 4 deleted from my blacklist. But I would like to see something done with the chat feature.

Should be able to build a filter so that if someone blacklists a character it will generate a Flag on that account if that account gets flags a number of times then it is blocked from chat and forward to get looked into as gold spam.
Or have an option in the black list to flag as a gold spam then if that character or account is flagged a number of times then it is blocked from chat and forwarded on to get looked into.

I don't have a problem with just blocking gold-sellers, although I don't think it would be bad to implement a level restriction on chats, like in other MMOs.

In one particular MMO I've played there are a number of main chat channels, with certain restrictions:
Location - Server-wide. Must be level 20 to use.
General - Talks with users in your area. Non-restricted. This channel is rarely used, as anything posted in this channel is likely to be overridden by guild/alliance/party/etc chats.
Peers - Users in your level bracket - 1-19, 20-49, 50-79 etc... Very few gold spammers ever make it past level 30 or so, and by that point peer chat doesn't have much use anyway. The hacked accounts are few and far in-between and it's simple to block them - with right-clicking on the name. Although, to report them you do have to whisper them. And on the hacked accounts front - AO implemented a "secondary password". A 4-digit pin that was required to be entered if your account is signed into by a different IP address than usual. (i.e., if you logged on from a friend's computer, it would ask for your code. Then, if you logged on again on your usual computer, it would ask for it again.) This pretty much eliminated a lot of the hacking issues with compromised accounts.
Shout - Shouts in this game are highly limited - you have to purchase a special ticket in order to use a shout, available from the market for a certain amount of gold, and it has a level restriction to avoid abuse.


With what AO does to lessen chat spam, you don't have to deal with it very often at all, once you make your way up to low-mid-level (around 50-100). By mid-level (100-120), they're pretty much non-existent. And even a casual player can make 100 in a week or so. I will say their bot policies needs work, but at least they've got chat spamming down.

With that said, FFXIV is still fairly fresh. I don't come into a new game expecting everything to be perfect. There will be kinks. And gold sellers and bots is something that every MMO has to deal with at one point or another. And being that this game is so profitable, I highly doubt Square Enix is going to sit back and let something drive away potential customers. These things take time, and I think it's better to just keep reporting and be patient. I only have a few users on my blacklist, and one of them has been deleted since about.. two days ago. Could be a fluke, of course, but still, it was nice to see.

You can Black list a gold seller real quick by typing /blist add <R> this will add the last person that sent a message. Hope this helps. :)

Before blaiming the gil seller, blame those gamer first. if no one buy no one sell. simple logic. would you start a business if you knew there isnt profit to begin with? If gil seller population can increase, it only means there are many in the game that does indeed go buy those gils. And let's be frank, if you have people in the game trying to sell Titan Hard Mode, And yes you are reading it right, 350k per run. Then yes you can be sure there are peeps out there who will buy gil then pay these stupid people. So even those who attempt to sell such in game services for gil should be taken care too.

What Tera Online did to stop RMT? Harsh but it locked out a good portion of the market from playing too, they banned China and most of SEA out from the game. Should consider banning China too, probably make them play in a little server on their own with a population cap of 3.

What might be a good idea is to make an option when you richt click the spammers name in the chat log and report spamming / rmt etc there, after a person gets say 10x such a report from diffrent players, square could auto ban them, and let a GM check the ppl that get blocked that way. we can flag the spammers way faster than SE this way...

Why don't you (Square Enix) give us the tools to right click report/blacklist.

Why do we have to go through this hard process to report a RMT.

SE you have the tools to read a log file.

You receive a report.
Go check log date/time and you should be able to read the text where the report i taken from.
And like others mentioned ( when you have received enough reports from a single person, your RMT agents will check and ban)

Lots of players simply dont wanna waste more time reporting.

They have bought this game to have fun and play games, NOT being Agents and using time to report over and over again.

If i wanted that I could just buy Windows office.

We know you have banned multiply of accounts, but RMT have turned to /tell instead of spam main chat.

We have to use a macro to blacklist them, Cmon :D give us the tool.

That isn't a good solution. While yes it stops the chat, it doesn't address the problem at the roots. SE needs to swiftly take more action against these Gil Sellers. Not to mention the hackers teleporting from gathering node to gathering node, which is also a very serious problem for the economies right now.

The spammers haven't been as bad as a couple of weeks ago on my server. Whats driving me crazy is when I'm doing botany and some little weasel (in a FC with over 120 people) is teleporting to the nodes right in front of my face. Yes they aren't stealing the node from me (if they could do that I wouldn't even play the game anymore) but I'm farming crystals because one person in the ah has 15 stacks of 1000 shards each for 35000 and I refuse to play that much. 15 stacks of 1000 each.... how long would an honest gamer have to farm to get that many. I don't know how the game economy will turn out but this can't be a good thing. I report them in game, in help forums and anywhere I can but people laugh and say "the one I reported last week is still out here teleporting". They can just laugh at us and keep on going.

Macro /blist add <r> This macro will auto Blist the last spammer to send a tell. Then turn off shout and yell (move to a seperate window) and enjoy game this way untill they figure something better. I am sure they want to fix it as much as we want it fixed. It probably cause strain on servers and makes them look bad too.

You should still report them. SE is slow to respond with things like this but they do ban people for the teleporting to nodes/targets thing. Some times it can take them a couple weeks. Yes it sucks that they don't respond faster, but you should still report each one you see.

I've reported every single person I saw boting/RMT advertising for the first month of the game. My BL reached about 150 names, then it got old.

Now I just BL and have stopped reporting. Even if some of those I've reported were actually banned, more keep comming, it never ends, it feels useless. It's been about 3 weeks now, and I've just added a 90th name to my BL since then. If I hadn't rerolled, my BL would actually be more than full by now. That's scary.

SE banned a few thousand accounts? Great, they only need to pay one guy to stand in Ul'dah's Quicksand for one week, normal working hours, and I'm sure they'll get as much done effortlessly. I mean, I stood there for 10 minutes, saw a good 30 cheaters, more even, since I couldn't report them all, didn't have the time to copy/paste them all, fast as they were to teleport.

I'm really worried about the future of the game's economy if they can't find a way to get the boting under control. A good deal of which is due to RMT. That concerns me far more than the flooding of /sh and /y channels in the Cities.

Getting the name of the botters is a chore in itself, as they are porting from node to node underground, so most of the time you can't a) target them or b) see the whole of their name, so whilst you spend 5 minutes chasing round trying to get their name and another two using the cumbersome reporting method, you could have actually been playing the game! Make it easier to report please!

On brnhyldir the gilsellers have taken up a lost of names to spam sales in /tell. Can report them a million times, can blacklist all of them. I still receive 2 - 5 of these /tell an hour. It's making the game very difficult to play. I requested a name change to try to get around this list, I don't even care if it's a paid service. All I get in response from Square Enix is "We don't offer that service. Post on forums." So here. I'm posting on forums.

I've got nearly a full Blist and only TWO have been deleted since launch day for crying out loud...
SE only needs to let us RIGHT click the name in chat and then pick 'Report RMT and Add to blacklist'. All this nonsense about copy/pasting the darned names to an entirely new window, and then sending in a ticket is ridiculous.

I bet WE [who are complaining here] would get banned in the space of a few hours if we all posted out full black lists right here in the forum! But SE can't be bothered with the SIMPLE solutions WE have told them about.

Why should we, the paying customers, have to put up with this STILL after nearly 2 months?

There's a quick solution, but it's a case of harming all to punish the few: Ban gil trading (save for repair costs/meld costs), place an upper limit on how much can be set for items on the Market Boards, and set limits to how much can be removed from FC coffers.

I realise that this is perhaps one of the most extreme solutions, but really, everything else hasn't even slowed down these companies who advertise gil/power levelling long enough to be noticeable. Yes I know it will most likely never happen but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would see that as perhaps one of few ways to give gil spammers pause, if not stop them outright.

unfortunately i have given up on even reporting them anymore. it breaks the atmosphere of the game though and seeing advertising like that makes a bad experience.

i get tells all the time. blacklist one, and another one takes their place within an hour.

As for killing their business. Just prevent one-sided/uneven trades and limit Gil transfers to 10000gil/day per level acquired. It's not that hard to 95% percentile check the current market to see if someone is making uneven trades.

I agree that limiting shout is a problem due to low level players not being able to use the channel, thus depriving them of assistance.

I disagree with your remarks regarding languages. My close friend in Canada has an English-language client and a keyboard that has French-language specific characters and accents on it. Occasionally, he accidentally hits one of those characters while typing. Under your proposal, he'd have issues and potentially be auto-reported (because in my extensive gaming history, I have never seen a publisher err on the side of caution in implementing bans or other restrictions--and in FF:ARR, they most certainly have not erred on the side of caution, banning accounts of active players for as long as three calendar weeks when players have reported on their own to customer service that they have been compromised, putting the burden of proof on the player rather than taking the simple action of checking the logs for the IP discrepancies--what IP is the account normally logged into from, what IP was the ticket filed from, and what IP(s) has it been logged into from and can the customer provide the IPs they know they have logged in from--and restoring the account after receiving that simple flippin' information along with the license key from the customer). The dupe check could be abused because, due to the spammers, we often have to repeat tells to folks--frequently more than once.

Preventing one-sided trades is not really an option. If I want to give gear or gil to my friend just starting to play to help them out, that's my business. If I want to loan a guildmate 20k to 50k gil for a few days, that is also my business. It doesn't make me a gil seller or spammer and to insinuate it does is outrageous.

GMs do exist in game. I have actually spoken to one after filing a ticket. They are not a myth! (I know, I'm as shocked as everyone else!) The most obvious solution is to do what has already been suggested: rotate shifts of say, one hour (so they don't go crazy with boredom), stand around in the location of their choice--fishing, mining, logging...doesn't matter what they do or look like they're doing--the gil spammers and sellers will come to them. But I recommend chilling in Hammerlea. You'll see a whole lot of teleporters and bots using third party hacks and exploits there.

It would seem you could effectively crowd source the banning of bots. The idea is that some players aggressively blacklist only bots. If you can identify those blacklists, you could leverage them to ban bots from chat with a very low false positive rate. Basically look at player blacklists. Correlate those with known bots. Separate out the blacklists low false positive and high bot correlation, weight them accordingly then use the resultant number as a basis for an initial ban.

The current way of reporting Gil sellers is too cumbersome in my opinion. Square Enix should make it easier. Like when you get a /tell from a gil seller, put an option to right click on its name and have an option to "REPORT AS RMT or SPAM". Once that option is clicked, let the system do an internal snapshot of the last /tell you have gotten from the RMT as evidence, then BAN the account right there. Also, let the system add that player on our Blacklist automatically, when that option is selected.

i got a macro with /blist add <r> make it really fast... doesn't help with shouts for that need to copy name off screen or click tell to get name then add /blist add "name"
