Actually no, they would have a LOT less stress than if those 30,000 would be constantly trying to open several new connections per minute.
There is no excuse for not having a proper queue.

Have you ever seen those 'end of the world' movies, where 500 people are at a police line, trying to get through to buy some last groceries before the catastrophe hits?
People are screaming irrationally at the line, one man is shouting at the police, a woman hurls obscenities whilst her daughter hides beneath her coat.
Then, all of sudden, the rope breaks...
Everyone surges forward and the police are overwhelmed. In moments the mass of ordinary, everyday people become a great swath of furious pack animals, intent on 'taking' what they want.
A chair is tossed high into the air, loops overhead and crushes straight through the shop window as the crowd ploughs through the open doors. Children fall, women are trampled underfoot, families lose each other in the madness. Fights break out and the police, or what's left of them, draw their guns...
...
Anyway
Please just chill out and wait a bit guys, it's not the end of the world.
And thus starts the great "never log off" mentality once again.
LOL, people are actually happy they're loggin on in the Early Morning (NA) on a workday when most schools have started again (so not many youngins on). My guess.. nothing has changed all that much as far as server capacity. And they could have made everyones life simpler by simply adding a REAL LOGIN QUEUE but they didnt do that either. Nor did they even add many new servers. Nor did they add an auto-logoff for inactivity.
Oh sqeeenix...
jusr got in cactaur no problem.
I am still facing 1017 on Aegis after nearly 20mins.
SE, I can understand if the world is full and I need to wait for my turn to enter but why am I still facing 1017 instead of being placed in a queue?? When are you going to solve the problem for good??
So nearly 5 hours after the big rush, I'm still receiving errors: 2002, 1017 on Masamune, and some other 500X error which I can't remember the last digit now. I have been in the queue twice now and waited a few minutes before being given error 1017. The second time I was in the queue I was in position 8 and after a minute it kicked me out with error 1017. What is worse is that I can't even create a new character on the NEW server for the JP data center.
Edit: Just got the error 5006: The lobby server connection has encountered an error.
Do people really not have anything better to do with their time than to complain that they can't play a game? I can understand alerting SE to the continued issue, but the endless crying is beyond ridiculous at this point. I've spent plenty of time trying to log in without success and I'm not whining about it. I log out when I'm finished playing, knowing the login issues. It's a game. A [I]game[I]. Seriously. If people are that unhappy about this launch, they should just request a refund and move on to another game that doesn't require them to be patient while the bugs are worked out. If you don't like the product, return it and be done with it. It's really quite simple, IMO. What ever will these folks do when something really huge happens in their real lives?
Go read a book until you can get on.
Update since last post: After 2 hours of auto macro login attempts and many many many client restarts due to it shutting down because of error 2002, I entered the queue and subsequently entered the world. All in all, I've been trying for just on 3 hours. Not bad I suppose. I'll definitely be taking advantage of the no afk timeout policy and hope my character stays logged in as long as possible. Let's hope there are no more emergency maintenances or 90000 errors :-S
I hate to admit it, not because I'm worried about getting flamed, but because I do think it's an unfair tactic...but I'm staying logged in all day while I'm at the office. This is the very first time I'm AFKing. Maybe I'll be kicked off due to server maintenance, which would be fine by me. I just can't stomach the thought of getting home after working all day, then trying to spam the "0" key just to play.
I think that's what a lot of people are doing actually for the fear of not being able to get back on, sure you have the pricks that are just staying on there because they can, but then you have the honest-to-god people who stay on just out of fear of not being able to get back on once they log off...it's like the old quote says "The restaurant was good, but it's so crowded that no one goes to eat there anymore."
I log off at night, usually 11pm or so EST so someone on the West Coast can play and then sign back in when I get up in the morning around 7am. But if 1017 still exists, it's sad.
Did not encounter all the above. Lol. You guys have very bad luck.
