What's your Grand Company and why you choose it?

I have to agree with you Jinrya, if given a choice I would never have joined a Grand Company (I never did in 1.0) - I feel like I've been compulsorily conscripted into it just to advance the storyline. We're free adventurers not soldiers! If Enki wanted to be a soldier she would have joined the actual army, not a watered-down volunteer regiment created simply to plug manpower holes in the citystates's respective militaries.

She goes where Azeyma guides her (and the gilpouch at the end of it!), not bowing to orders from an arrogant ex-pirate, an oafish refugee from Ala Mhigo and his figurehead monarch girlfriend, or a forest changeling.

But... because the Warden had other ideas, Enki ended up with the Order of the Twin Adder, as she found herself becoming very fond of Gridania and it's people, even if they were a bit xenophobic at times. :p Not to mention Gridania's motto: Serenity, Purity, Sanctity really strikes a chord with Enki, who became somewhat pious following her return after the Calamity. ;)

Twin Adders ftw. Theres an on going joke in my guild to see who will pull more members. So far Immortal flames is leading by 2 members to the Twin Adders. We must Prevail!

I expected to choose Immortal Flames because I started in Ul'dah and got to know the Sultana and the challenges facing her city. Her general gave a terrible speech about how greedy Ul'dah is. After the calamity, the world needs to work together, not become self serving isolationists.

Maelstrom gave a rallying speech, but they're a bunch of badasses with no vision. They won't provide leadership beyond helping themselves.

Twin Adder has the broadest purpose, yet Gridania has a poor layout and trains many of its people to fight with magic sticks. It's ridiculous, so I joined them with a decent set of armor. I'll try to keep some of them alive long enough to make a difference.

If they're too idealistic to get anything done, I may leave for Maelstrom. At least they'll get into some good fights. I feel bad for the Sultana and her people, but I can be more effective in one of the other companies. She needs politicians and merchants more than she needs adventurers.

I chose Twin Adders as it was the faction for my starting city and the cut scene won me over. They stood for what i could see my character standing for... :D

I rolled a Miqo'te, A cat person in the navy made me chuckle a bit, so I rolled with it.

Limsa!! I think limsa has a better leader IMO lol.

i chose maelstrom because they seem more screwed problem-wise than the rest of the city-states

I chose the Flames because Raubahn holds the Sultana like a parakeet :p.

Immortal Flames because their base is right next to the Uldah port.

I chose Immortal Flames of Ul'dah because it's my favorite city, thus my character's surname is Ulstar.

Immortal Flames

Ul'dah has always been my favourite city, I like the exotic feel and the bustling atmosphere, always felt like it was the Byzantine of Final Fantasy.
Well, I chose Ul'dah as my starting city and geared the looks of my character to go with the Ul'dahn climate in 2.0.

Had to decide between the Flames and the Maelstrom, both their gear sets look awesome.

Evai Pehsh, a quite disturbed Keeper of the Moon female teenager from podunk in the Shroud.

Short, gloomy, dark skinned and skinny as a sick little black lamb.

Entitled the wrong survivor of a difficult twin sisters delivery according to her bossy mother, the matriarch, who see her power diminishing because Evai, as the only girl has, of course, never been considered as a potential successor.

Sent, in the perspective of profit for the wealth of her family, to the weird conjurer school of Gridania.
At least she might worth the sacrifices made by her mother.

Evai wishes to go as far as she can from her past short life..
.. or by the sea, she dreams to see it one day ..
.. or by the road, on the tracks of her worth nothing drinking father, repudiated long ago, from whom she inherited a high propensity to express herself through violence and pugilism.
The girl barely lost an eye because of that..

She remembers her father's stories about the arenas, the champions..
It was his dream to go back visiting Ul'dha one day.
The poor guy is probably dead, drying, on the side of the trail trough the desert or been killed behind a tavern.

Showing strong aptitudes and conivences with the art of white magic, our ugly duck managed to be sent to complete her studying in Limsa where she has a blast, but..

Arcanist school is one thing, and the stronghold of the pirates is an other.. soon the dream leaves the place to the crude reality.
Quickly Evai is facing multiple choices, some good, some less.
For a fifteen years old girl, alone and far from her family and home, Limsa can be full of dangers and temptations.

Feeling on a sharp edge, following the advice of her teacher, she takes refuge in the Maelstrom, ignoring totally what that will involve..

Anyway, I chose Maelstrom as my first Grand Company on my main character. To me Limsa Lominsa was the Bastok analogue(though obviously they leaned hard into Bastok's Tenshodo ties with all the piracy and what not), and as another poster earlier in this thread said, so many years ago now, Merlwyb has huge tracts of land.

But over the years I've made many characters, and I've chosen all three GCs at one point or the other. I actually favor how most of the Twin Adder's weapons look, particularly the i130 ones and the ones that come from Allied Seals and The Hunt.

Reading through this thread, it seems like RPers used to hit up the OF a lot more frequently, and add to their characters here. Don't see that all so often these days, do ya?

Twin adders because I am a tree hugger irl. Also can’t relate to the other two, Im not a pirate, nor a little goblin.

Immortal Flames. The officer outfit ( mostly the helmet ) is rad.

I chose Immortal Flames because it is far from the Eorzea zoo and its pirates, but also from the forest where it rains 24/7.
I won't live there because of the city and its corrupt population, but it's quiet between adventures.

If I could have chosen better, I would have chosen Ishard or Doma, at least that would make sense. In the end, it's just a failed and underused RvRvR sub, it's like the signs of the twelves.

Immortal Flames. My life for the Sultana. Also I gained a massive fictional-character-crush on Raubahn the moment I first saw him in the THM Ul'dah intro.

I chose Twin Adders because I liked the forest the most out of the 3 starting biomes.

Twin Adder because I started on Bard way back in the day. Always chose this one from then on.

Ul'dah(my nice Lil cozy City state of preference.., though I'd never get a house here.., cause the chance of the Moon is more special to me..,) [Best State..,]

Also cause my characters while unintentional or not, always start as GLD(and I'm just permanently a BLM with a MNK title as standard on my main.., when not using any other class/job for a specific reason)

I like all city states.., but likely due to me starting here.., or maybe it reminding me of a land of extremes Cold and Hot at different ends of the year.., it's what calls to me..,

The inspiration came from the city in itself. And the fact that my first char ever made in this game started there (back in the 1.x version) as a fellow lazy fisher miqo'te girl :3

But my alts are equaly spread in all the 3 GCs for "democratic porposes" xD

The biggest issue with Maelstrom is the lack of alcohol accessible by the player... It's nearly impossible to pirate properly while sober. :P

First choose the city state I started in. Later on, I transferred to the others to get the achievements.

Immortal Flames... because of the caster Elite skirt. No regrets.

I only wish they would release Virtu/Prestige variations of the GC elite items that are dyeable.

Immortal Flames because of Raubahn and Pippin they are my favourite characters and i like the flame salute

Twin Adder because I started as an archer and didn't really put any thought into it. And the Grand Companies haven't been relevant since ARR anyway, so I continue to not really think about it.

Lmao. I agree! We need more alcohol in the game! Frozen Spirits just ain't cutting it!

Adder hippies because they are in my favorite forest city, although now temporarily farming pvp rank for another GC. I would choose Ishgard if I could.

After starting in Ul'dah I had pretty much soured on the horrible people running that city, the Gridanians seemed a bit useless so that meant the Maelstrom seemed the most effective and go get'em

For me it was the Maelstrom, because they looked the coolest. Black & Red always looks cool. They had the best looking gear from their gear seller, especially the physical DPS & magic chest pieces. If the Crystal Braves had been a choice, I would’ve probably went with them. That Light Blue on Dark Blue looks awesome, too. For me it was just aesthetics. As simple as that.

Flames. Primarily for the aesthetic, but if you wanted to clean house in FL during the HW days you picked Flames regardless. Even during Mael's dominance of SB, with premades and anyone who was generally competent jumping over to red, I stuck with the Flames throughout. With them to this day.

I still feel sorry for what the Adders were subjected to in that era of FL, prior to the freelance queue. Went through hell and back to play yellow.

Don't underestimate "tree huggers". Back at the original launch of WoW my tree hugging druid frequently threw live explosives at ppl that didn't respect nature. :P lol
