dev1031 You are losing your main playerbase by making things too easy/fast/casual

Please, I'm the main player base that wants this game to succeed and I agree with all the changes they have implemented to date.

I'm a Square Follower.
I'm a Final Fantasy Player
I'm a FFXI Veteran
And I'm an MMO Player.

Pick and chose what you want from that list but thats what SE is targeting and they keep hitting high notes with me.

Darkfall. Is pretty hardcore. I considered myself a hardcore MMO player until I played it, then I decided I didn't want to be associated with "Hardcore MMO Players" any more.

SE: You did make a mistake having these New NM's spawn so quickly, please post a patch to increase the spawn times, maybe 30 mins to 1 hour each re-spawn, and how about more random locations. So camping 1 little area does no good, but rather needing to be more spread out.

You can post a patch fix for this, or its probably done Server Side, just fix it. I have to agree somewhat with the OP, content should take longer to do than it takes to create it. You are digging yourself in a hole, granted a lot of the current players are higher than new ones will be when PS3 releases, which makes these new NM's easier.

Simple Fixes: Increase Spawn times, Increase Spawn Area/Locations

Next patch, create 20 more NM's, that randomly spawn like these, and have their spawn times increased too, keep up to the good work, this patch is definitely in the right direction, just needs some tweaking.

First constructive post from the "hardcores" in this thread. +1

If you look at other subscription based services they tend to cater to acquiring new business vs. maintaining current client base. Just look at car insurance companys, they spend more effort convincing people to switch and try out their service rather than convincing people to renew their subscription.

I dont think the business practice would be any different with FFXIV. Attracting new business is what keeps the brand afloat and with the current population of the game now I beleieve they need to do everything possible to attract new subscribers. Its just a very fine balance between satisfying current subscribers and attracting new ones.

I agree with this!

Relax. This is a wave of MIDLEVEL NMs, this is NOT endgame content, nor is it HNMs. This is R/EX midlevel gear. They are not ignoring the hardcores because they didn't get to add the hardcore content yet. Just wait patiently please.

You know Shiyo, I have reconsidered my earlier post. You are right. All 97% of FFXIV's player base quit because things were too easy. So simple. How had I not realized how true your words were before.

Oh wait.. wait a second.. I'm trying to remember.. how many FFXIV reviews complained at how easy and fast everything was... hmmmm.......

Dude they don't understand that. What is messed up is they are complaining about content that might come in the future that they probably will never even see because they're so "casual" they won't even be playing by then. It has nothing to do with game balance. It's about babies needing to get spoon-fed so everyone is equally as bad as them.

SE basically has to say/do something because if it gets any worse then this the only time people will ever log on this game in the future will be after an update.

NM are easy/fast mostly because most of you killed them at rank 50 in a group of 3 or more. (it's like doing AF1 at Lv.90 and say it's a Casual gamer because you solo'ed it... but when you remember your first AF1, you couldn't solo'ed it.)

The repop is fast, it's not so bad, try to gather a group of lvl 35 and kill it, you'll see the hardcore way of killing thoses NM.

What i miss actually is event like Limbus (a dungeon not to fast but not to long).

They didn't really ruin it, they just brought it into line with all MMO's. They wiped all the endgame content away that catered to hardcore players and made what they put in it's place accessable to everyone.

This isn't true, take wow as an example. That game is mainly made up from casual gamers, you know how long that game has been around and with mass player numbers? Casual gamers stick around just as long as hardcore players, if not almost every MMO would be surviving on a <10k playersbases.

I also have to wonder, would it even be wise to release endgame content while the game is still free?. Wouldn't it be more. Prudent to wait until you are getting paid subscriptions before adding in longer term content? There's still the battle system revamp to do. And who knows how deep the companies are?

Really hardcore crowds are not the main crowd of any game, they are a large minority, casual gamers are the main crowd, the people that pay the bills, why should they take the back seat to the smaller community ?

Hey, just because they make it more accessible to people WHO DON'T HAVE A TON OF TIME TO PUT INTO A GAME, doesn't make it less hardcore. All you others I.E. Most of you people who are complaining that the game isn't hardcore anymore are probably the people who have nothing better to do with their time and are also the ones that the note before you log in is directed at* (whew that was a mouthful) should calm down, same content and you still get there faster than the rest because you put in all the time you would have anyway. As for having a toggle-able rank/enemy icon feature doesn't ruin anything anyway. Turn it off if it bothers you. I've been taking on dodos in Thanalan desert that were higher rank than me all week. Just because i now know they're r19 to my r12 doesn't mean i'm not going to fight them anymore. >.>

If this was the 80s, and ffxiv was on the nes, I assure you, no one would be complaining...

NES games were all of a few hours to beat for the long ones if you knew what you were doing. However this doesn't apply here simply because all people want added in is senseless grinding, slow attack actions, waiting hours for a party, and to lose experience when you die so you have the chance to lose that nice shiny level you just got. :O see what i did there...thats pretty much all that was taken out of XI when compared with XIV.

Abyssea didn't ruin FFXI, it's most of the reason I'm playing that right now instead of this.

and from where do you get that info ? care to bring out the source ?

SE can make some NM with 12h+- spawm time and those with 4-5 min spawm, ofc the 4-5 min will get item with lower stat than the 12h+- , fair and no one will complain (there will)

I kind of agree with the OP on some points. While I disagree with having the game as hardcore as XI; mostly for personal reasons because I no longer have that kind of time, I do think XIV would benefit from being way more hardcore than it is now. Games like WoW and Rift have the casual market pretty cornered and there really is no hardcore game in this type of genre out right now. I think they would definitely get more subs if they eventually went a more hardcore route than they would if they stuck to the casual route.

It's kind of moot though, it's not going to happen.

LMAO, if the casual are the only p2p than I am pretty sure the FFXI and other p2p mmo DIE long ago, the no-life/hardcore have money as well you know ?

on a note in my opinion: if you dont have 3h/day to play a mmo, maybe you should use those 3h to do something better in your what is call "life"

After playing FFXI for 5+ yrs and attempting to play Warcraft off and on for a yr. I have to say I prefer the casual play unless you have lots of friends who you can play with. Being in a hardcore game without friends to help is like hitting your head against a wall until you die.. I didn't complete a lot of the missions in 11 for the fact I couldn't come up with the help. I could never obtain end game gear due to the fact I had children and couldn't play all hours of the night. So I should be punished and looked down upon because I couldn't get what others with no life could? See this is why casual play content is important.. When a game becomes more like work than a game... Thats when you lose customers... Maybe if the hardcore players weren't elite players like.. "you dont have HQ staves and all this other rare/ex stuff u can't be in the pt" then maybe I wouldn't mind them so much...This coming from somene who played 8+ hours a day and nearly gave her husband and family up...
