Answer: If you have been following what the dev team has been saying, there are many people working on many different things. The best way I can put this is imagine a plane that is going under repairs. There are many things that need to be repaired on this plane from the wings, to the glass, to the lavatories, to the seats, to the electrical, to the mechanical, down to the wheels.
Where do you start first? Who do you assign to what? If you put all 100 people who are working on this plane on 1 task, you have a lot of people standing around, waiting for their turn or waiting for someone to move for them to get involved. It's a lot easier to do your job when you know what needs to be done without worrying on what everyone else is doing and not covering up what you're working on. This is especially true with designing a game and messing with code.
Each team is hard at work and they're pushing things out. These "unnecessary things" are things that are getting done because they are simply the easiest fixes. If waiting for these updates is that bad and terrible you could always stop playing and come back when they're finished polishing the game and actually charging people money to play.
lol @ sig. I was just thinking about taking a break from the forums and then I seen your sig.

Why are some expecting challenging content to be released this soon? You guys are really setting the bar very high for these early patches. I'm good with the patch because I figured we weren't getting anything major. It has been said plenty of enough times to come back in about 2-3 months if that's all you care about. The patches have this "snowball" effect and they are getting bigger and better compared to the last.
Stop expecting major additions to XIV when we didn't even get AA yet... Not to even mention the other core changes.
@OP seriously man stop crying about your fail design MMO(FFXI). It was fun while it lasted but was not the best MMO to ever be released. Far from that label actually.
LOL
I'd love for him to explain this too. I suppose this dude wants a socialist economy because apperantly inflation is rampant and thus things are expensive... boo hoo
I'd love to see him present an alternative... I won't be expecting much though, but I can stand for a few good laughs.
I have not wasted months with LOLpatches, Argh. Perhaps you should take a break and come back when things pick up. It isn't like you're paying a monthly subscription fee...
YOu know, some of these points are kinda dumb to make here. Comparing final fantasy XIV to XI is like comparing final fantasy XII to final fantasy 1. Every game in the series is meant to be different. If you want to play final fantasy XI then play that. its still up and running and still has some subscribers in it. We choose to play final fantasy XIV because we like it. as far as yoshi-p goes, i think hes doing a great job saving the game. There is one thing i will agree on though is that he is kinda making the game a bit too easy. Yoshi-P if youre reading this bud, please give us some more challenge in the game.
why ppl keep protecting the dev while the fact is their works suck and the game is dying?
I hope Yoshi-P eats all of your babies in the night.
1/50 IS NOT 100%, you, sir, fail
gill is too easily obtained. prices are insanely inflated from the start. $10,000 for an npc starter axe? why can't it be $1,000 like in ffxi? oh right, stupid inflation due to easy money thrown at you in quests.
there is no point crafting and selling lower level gear since everyone will be running around with gear of higher levels that look nicer. gear penalties due to rank is negligable since the damn game is so easy already. the ability to play dress up doll with your man cats because you can wear any item at any level further undermines crafting.
the lack of an AH prevents price discovery. no one knows what to set a price for anything since they don't have references or history data. it hurts crafters. the fact that the game does everything it can to forbid active socializing by not having a large central market structure (AKA; AUCTION HOUSE!) that players can gather around to trade at further undermines a healthy and active economy.
it should be a challenge and a timesink to accumulate wealth and gear. it is the fundemental goal that every player seeks when playing an mmo. instead all we got is a system that has no avenue to TAKE your money. you don't need to buy spells, for example. in the end you just end up hoarding your cash because there is hardly anything to spend it on.....but i guess this is a good thing for you casual players because god forbid anything that slows down your progression to a meaningless end game level!
i guess today's kids want nothing more than to race to end game and anything challenging be it economic, time-based, or sandbox element, is a bad bad thing! how pathetic!
did this answer satisfy your curiosity? would you like me to explain in detail all my other VALID POINTS?
no use replying to this guy all you will do is end up feeding the troll.
The game was dying the day of release. You can't say Yoshi and team work sucks because they haven't even changed the core of the game yet.
It's official it's time to take a break from this forum of ignorance. "LETS GET OUR HOPES UP FOR EPIC GAME CHANGING CONTENT EVEN THOUGH THE GAMES CORE IS STILL INCOMPLETE!" smfh Hopefully when I come back people will be banned or will rage quit.
Let's also expect Yoshi and team to be gods of development and push out work mere mortal would take years to do!" /end sarcasm
Ignorance is bliss
Further proof that you have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about, due to the fact that you haven't even played the game. And you're at 1,655 posts? That's ridiculous.
The way character collision used to work is, another player/mob would stop you for about a second before you could simply pass through them. No griefing possible. End of story.
I wouldn't simply dismiss Argh's input and deter anyone from discussing his points--"feeding the troll"--because they're not in favor of the game's comeback. He does address many problems that make the game less desirable to a lot of players (including myself, but I'm not making a biased reply).
Referencing FFXI is constructive because it was a fairly successful mmorpg. This does not imply that we'd simply like a clone of FFXI, but rather we'd like to see some of the predecessor's stronger elements in this game.
I would, however, try to understand the amount of work the new development team has to take-on and the complexity involved. Maybe some of the work is being done behind closed doors (i.e. not implemented in patches until finished), who knows what the game will look like months from now?
I think the only sensible thing to do right now is either 1) play the game for what it is in its current state and try to enjoy it, or 2) play something else but keep-up on these forums expecting, or at least hoping, that they will turn this game around! :)

this yoshida guy had over 4 months to change at least one core element but he did nothing but waste time with polls and flights around the globe promoting interviews and his hairstyle. in the 4+ months the game went from casually-easy game to stupidly-easy game.
[QUOTE=Argh;90282] Yep he wasting his time tanaka would have been better if he had more time. He not doing a bad job but still 4+month and all we got is casual and more and more casual events. For a person who play a pretty hardcore game he seem full of it and casual all together.
no matter how much you try to protect them but their works are the best proves that they are not done it good enough
Am I the only one here that is seeing Argh trying to bring up a fight??? I mean look at his name it's "Argh" its a joke...
I'm a long time FFXI veteran and I do not want this game to be a FFXI clone, nor do I want it to be a WoW clone(trying not to bring WoW clone argument into this). All I want is my Final Fantasy Title, and my experience... but sadly all I see is people like this "Argh" trying to pull away the enjoyment out of everyone else, and whine and cry like everyone else...
As the OP you sit there and make a bold statement saying "this new game director producer does not know what he is doing", but do you even know what that means... I bet your one of those hardcore players that want things now now now... well here's a little lesson... thats not how life works, deal with it... if you don't like it, go to something else...
Do what the last poster said

I find the OP to be quite hilarious, imho lol. I'm really happy with the way the game is going. The updates are going pretty much how I imagined they would and just like they have been saying. People are expecting more sooner, I get that. But, they have said time and time again that it was going to be a slow process. So far, I am content with how things are going. If I decide that they aren't living up to my expectations, then I'll simply say goodbye to FFXIV.
Because I don't think their work sucks.
Their work is incomplete. I like where it is headed and I have the patience to wait for it. I don't want them to throw out something just to get it done, I want it to be high quality.
Complaining about it will do nothing but give everyone, dev team included, high blood pressure and prone to small fits of hysterical screams.
Ohh.. Well boo hoo. Go play another game? O_o
Im sure youll get your 1-2 hour re-spawn times by next year.
You can fight a dragon in WoW! Doesnt that sound AWESOME!? go check it out...
No no, they dont care about fighting dragons. They want to fight each other.
I always had a sliver of hope for this game, and continue to play it religiously... but after this update.. I honestly don't have a problem with the low lvl nms and the low level gear that they drop, not a problem at all. I find the 3 minute spawn time just sad... there is absolutely no challenge or excitement. I am not saying I want these nms to have like a 5 hour pop window, but even the level 10 nms in XI took at least 45 mins.. and had a placeholder. Everyone knew everything there is to know about these nms in about 2 hours after the servers were up... that is obviously not "casual player" behavior to jump on ever NM right when they are released. This game just seems to be getting more and more directed for people who want everything handed to them on a silver platter... it is sad to see a game that had so much potential head in this direction.
if this game had pvp elements to it i would camp you mancats all day every day. if the game did not allow corps-looting i would camp your respawn graves until you called a gm crying for a teleport away from the "madness".
yeah, i am a pvp'er when it comes to mmo's. i always wished FFXI had open pvp so i can use my neckchopper for that prick of an off-tank that did not pull hate off me because he did not want to die and lose xp, which resulted in me dying during that failed pull in quifim. but i also enjoy my pve. and at the top of MY list is the dangerous world of an mmo with at least some sandbox elements.
i bet you think i sound angry. but you would be wrong. these are just memories. a challanging mmo should not be frowned upon. the challange is what creates the atmosphere. the atmopshere is what gets engraved in your heads. the most memoriable times in your mmo careers will be those tough situations where you lost. you will look back at those and say "man those were good times."
now all we have is players going "WHA! WHA! i don't wanna travel. i don't wanna die, i hate 2 minute res sicknesses! i don't wanna socialize! WHA WHA!"
if this game doesn't change it deserves everything it will get. it deserves the hole it dug itself into. if SE is smart the board of directors would fire the ceo and his replacement should appoint a gamer to lead this project, not someone that is shaking in his boots.
LOL NERDRAGE attacks
::hides::
Please quit FFXIV and play some other game like RIFT or Vindictus or etc.
There are plenty of MMO in market right now ( and yeah, some games are more fun to play than FFXIV )
For me, I bored of FFXIV and quit playing it for a while. But I rather sit and watch the dev team update this game to .. ah.. something we ( majority ) want.
But to tell the truth, they fix things very slow as turtle..
Yoshi-P knows exactly what he is doing and I support him.
I am not trying to flame or anything. I honestly love this game and I don't see myself quitting because of this update because I still have hope. All I want is for a dev to say something about this, that this game will head in a more challenging and fun direction and there will be sutible end-game for players who want more of a test.. no matter how long it will take them I just want the information... : \
you people are absolutely hilarious. LOL. I cannot get enough of you.
Get an imagination, the lot of you.
