Sometimes, late at night, when doing a dungeon, I'll space out between the first boss and the end boss and "wake up" right before we enter to fight the mini-boss. No one dies, and I still manage to tank, but I have 0 memories of the trip between the first boss and mini boss. I go into like a road mode or something.

1st dungeon run (Sastasha). Right before, I was doing the Gobbo FATE outside and to make it easier I replaced my Savage Blade hotbar spot with Riot Blade. Wasn't tanking them, just messing around & flashing everything.

Of course, I forgot to switch back once I popped into dungeon and made it just past 1st boss before realizing.

Tanking ultima weapon for the first time (and people didn't communicate). When he gets around 30-40% he does a meteor like thing that a big circle gravitates for.

Well I seen the big circle, it centers, and makes it very much look like a spot to stand on. (Thinking it was something to like deactivate a shield, or something).

Anyways, clearly I over thought the fight. Ran to the circle and got hit for 90% of my HP.

My first try at Brayflox. I had the nicest party ever however (props to you guys, again, if you see this post.)
I ran EVERYTHING but the last boss perfectly, no fuss, no muss, I liked to assume my team was pretty happy with me.

Get to the last boss. Wipe 4 times. Why? Because I couldn't figure out how to move out of the god damn red rectangle of butt dunking fast enough. I WAS SO SURE I WAS OUT OF IT AND THEN I GOT DAMAGEANTED.
Luckily my party tolerated my inability to dodge the stupid green bar, and we finished it on the 5th try, when the dragon didn't shoot poison at the worse places ever, and I learned that if I ran towards him I was less likely to eat poison.


I'm not an inherently bad tank, I'm just sort of dumb.

In Brayflox's Longstop had poison pool on every side of the room so I brought Aiatar to the middle and dragon breath wiped my whole team leaving me standing waiting to die.

Doing Titan today on my WAR. Let everyone know it's my first time but that I'd at least read up on the fight in advance. It takes me a good 90sec to 2min to realize that my health is lower than it should be, and that when I hit Inner Beast nothing is happening. /facepalm. Defiance wasn't up. Thankfully I got it up and the fight went smoothly.

Mine wasn't really that bad. But my first run-through, I wasn't very focused and didn't notice that the dragon was healing. Everyone was like, "Kar'ti! Move your ass, dammit!" and I was like, "Wait, wha-?" I was probably just out of it that day, because I definitely got nailed by that poison breath like fifty times...like....for no reason. derp :(

I think it's amazing cause I didn't have any problems with him in Phase 3.

pretty much all I do here as of late.. I have been very good at tanking until ampador or w/e keep.. I just keep getting stomped in there for some reason.. I dunno what to do.. well it doesn't help that no one wants to do it right.. lets skip this lets skip that.. otherwise.. ive qued for it twice and get murdered every time until ppl leave.. im not sure if its a me thing or the people im getting from duty finder.. I just don't know.. ive always played a tank.. maybe its time I moved on.. dunno.

When I was new to the game, I tanked satash for first time. My friend suggested I add flash to my bar as a warrior. I added the skill to alternates mid fight, didn't end well.

I was doing a dungeon and was really tired. Now if you have stayed up later than your suppose to and force yourself to stay awake... you know your body will fight for sleep in the form of microsleep. Yeah that happened to me. I microsleeped, lost aggro and the whole party got wiped on a trash mob, twice. I wasn't completly at fault because at one point the healer also fell asleep too, and we all decided we needed to quit the dungeon and try again tommorrow =D. So the tanking moral of the story is... GET SOME SLEEP.

First dungeon ever...Sastasha...as GLD. My friend told me about the fireflies and giant clam, and we go through the first few no problem with me running in, flashing them all, and THM Blizz II's them all down...piece of cake. Then our CNJ D/C's and we wait for a new one which only takes a couple minutes.

First pull with the new CNJ...I make sure everyone's ready...go charging in right through the fireflies to the clam...start working on him, and see the healer dead behind me. "What the hell!!!" as he runs back.

Yeah...I forgot to flash that time...

brayflox, last boss, went in without defiance up. was wondering why I wasn't seeing wrath stacks when I was hitting it. after about 30-40% of it's health I look up and realize. defiance on, bloodbath comes off CD, and... I don't remember the skill name, health booster followed by berserk and wailing on that sorry lizard. we won.

tried to type the strategy to the party and auto run into the Stone Vigil boss when 2 of the members were still in cutscene

This one is insanely embarrassing (and probably takes the "derp" cake), especially since it too me so long to figure it out. I ran about a dozen dungeon instances (lower-level, thank goodness), not paying attention to my macros. When editing my macros, I made a copy of the Riot blade one and was simply going to make the Riot<->Savage word change. Well, I forgot to change the skill itself, and since (1) it had the Savage Blade icon (2) I'd never really paid attention to combo animations (3) I wasn't losing hate, I never noticed any issues.

~3 levels later, go to macro in Rage of Halone and notice it says "/ac Riot Blade <t>"... XD

I didn't even learn how to mark mobs until level 45 on GLD/PLD. ._.;; Thankfully someone was very polite with teaching me.

Oh, and using Provoke at the very start of boss battles until 47. ._.;;; It's a miracle most my parties went as well as they did.

Happened to me too. I usually dont mark. Tried it for first time in Brayflox and I couldn't get into a good routine. I died and then the healer. I had to quit (SORRY to the DPS that were in that group). First time I ever did that and still feel bad for quitting.

Reaching endgame thinking I could do AK with a lvl 42 GC weapon and AF gear with low 40's accessories. Granted they didn't give me ANY time to at least get any aggro, but still I was stupid. Ended up leaving... first time ever doing that up until this point. I apologized to the group (which didn't help the name calling). I learned my lesson and got some stuff off market, and have been working on WP to get some better gear.

Although being told, "kill yourself you leech" and "You're incompetent" weren't justified.

One time I apparently didn't hit the enter key before typing "Ready?" in Ifrit HM. The first letter for ready is the hotkey for autorun... Still pulled it off, but it was easily one of the shakiest and sloppiest pulls I've ever done.

Biggest derp for me so far is definitely when I fell off the edge when tanking Titan HM while trying to avoid a bomb when he was at about 15% health, and everyone else was alive. Haha XD

I got knocked off by repel last night. First repel.

Healer said brb right as I pulled the boss, and so was sometimes standing in black so I was tossing out some cures, my little 200 cures, totally tunnel-visioning, and then thought OSHI~ just before repel hit.

I was even honest about exactly what happened. Thankfully, the group laughed.

Did Stone Vigil with a few mates, and was wondering why I was having so much trouble holding threat - where in previous runs they could barely pull it off me. Rotation was right, they even let me gain threat before starting to DPS; still couldn't hold threat. Managed to down the 1st 2 bosses before we realised we wouldn't have time to finish, so bailed...

... got back to Limsa and realised I'd been running with a broken weapon the whole time hah.

Doing temple of qarn for the first time.

Get to the first boss, no problems, say "what's he do?" healer makes a smart comment "you'll have to find out"

Find out he casts doom and we have to run onto the glowing platforms.

It becomes a hectic mishmash of playing simon says, nobody dies (surprisingly) and I had a giggle at how fun the fight was.

Sidenote: healer got punted by the temple guardian later and I lost it because I thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

By the way, those lasers from the third boss hurt.

Does aiming the crocodile rear attack at your healers in Temple of Qarn count as a derp? Was a healer from my FC, long time friend, and he died... SCORE!

I was on bored zombie mode grinding on CM runs all night. At the first boss I get the message ("InsertGear has reached 10% durability.") or something similiar on 5 different pieces... I was able to retrofit all pieces as they broke with old pieces still in armory chest except for sword/shield. We go into the final Boss fight (the one after using cannons), I hit the boss one time and weapon/shield breaks. BRD tanked it for awhile until WAR could grab hate and I could take over adds. We still won and no one died. Most intense CM boss fight for sure as you don't do shit with a broke ass weapon. Always keeping a backup from now on.

First time on Titan, fat fingered myself into first person camera mode, without realized that that camera mode existed, therefore not knowing which button I pressed triggered it, and promptly cannonballed off the edge of the arena while running out for a Geocrush. It's the "home" key, by the way.

When I was still Lalafell my camera kept sticking in the ground (I have no idea why) and I couldn't see on-coming AOE moves. I switched to Miqote and haven't had that problem since - but I had a lot of my friends annoyed for the first few weeks.

Got to the last boss of Qarn, went smoothly and all but I was really tired and somehow got this idea in my head as the one DPS wasn't quick enough with the boxed in needles.
I left the summoner's Titan to TANK the boss while the summoner was stuck healing it, I was running around destroying all the needles while the DPS failed 50% of the time to get in a boss.
Got boss to 10% HP and summoner died, healer had boss in his face (as well as high ping) and died, DPS had boss chasing hand pummeling the heck out of him.
I got raged at by the slow DPS (who couldn't even dodge the blue line) and laughed at my stupidity.
Moral of the story: Take a break when tired.

Another was at Hydra but this was half my fault, this may sound over the top but I assure you it's 100% true.
I was new to the fight and when the egoist leader said "stack tanks damage so it balances out", I literally thought we had to balance the aggro and not stand on top of each other.
Took 2 deaths for me to understand what he meant, but even after the FIRST death he treated me worse than trash. He was cursing etc. so it upset me and dulled my performance.
Another thing was "make sure to dodge white breath", of course it was my first time so I asked "Is it a special move? If so how do I avoid it?", even the other tank was curious about the question.
The egoist leader was once more insulting, "Oh gee, you know that big red cone? Maybe if you step the **** out of it you can avoid. How did you ever get this far?"
Third death, healers fault and no one said a word. Fourth death came because I couldn't keep up stacking the other tank as well as being unable to avoid white breath (was really upset), the abuse got really personal that even the healer joined in, I was shaking at this point.
Fifth death (of course it came) the egoist leader switched to tank (he was just as bad stacking and failing to avoid white breath), he told me to DPS but my mind was everywhere at this point so I was confused, adds came and killed everyone.
The insults got so bad that they kicked me from the party, I was traumatized by Hydra for 2 days (my heart would pound like crazy) until my friends run me through, and my fear disappeared at how easy and smooth it was.
Tldr; Did really bad at Hydra, team treated me like trash and expected me to do better, glad I was a burden after friends run me through, don't treat people like crap.

Pulling trash packs while having regen up.

Before I moved the Sprint button from my hotbar, I found I was forever hitting it when trying to use Shield Lob (which was the button next to it), simply due to me being somewhat of a butterfingers. One mis-hit key and bang, byebye TP. In the end I just mapped Sprint to another hotbar so I wouldn't keep hitting it. :p

Another derp I'm forever doing is setting marks on mobs during a dungeon, then forgetting to switch targets back to the first one and end up shield lobbing the one that was meant to be last. :p Doh!

My biggest derpy derp is to get drunk while playing tank in FFXIV (or other mmos), this is usual reason of my following derps.

So i got quite wasted and queued for "Brayflox's Longstop", about half trough i wondered why i cannot keep hate, and why i have some thm spells avaiable.
Yes I forgot to equip pld stone, went there as GLA in messed up gear, because as i remembered i tried to make my PLd look better just before i joined DF.
Everything was quite fine until lat boss. Everybody is used to sloppy and undergeared tanks, so nobody really complained. But then i for some reason collected
every single of his green rays, poor whm had no chance to keep me alive. We got it on second try, i swapped back to my tanking gear and had strong coffee.

I'm confused. You mean, there are times when you tank while you're not wasted?

I was fighting the shield guy for the first time, and for some reason i kept thinking the blue spheres that appeared around him and me were some kind of shield he put up, so i kept trying to pull him out of it. Turns out it was the healers who kept trying to pop a shield on top of me. Not to mention being told i had to pull him out of the fire, and pulling him out of a bard's ground fire move constantly. Yes, i was very tired that night ._.;

My finest moment, entered Ifrit HM and waited for protect and stoneskin, everyone ready?, go!
Ifrit peeled off me and proceeded to attack everyone, entire party wiped, it was then that I realized that upon entering the instance, shield oath was turned off.

derp.

Titan HM, ate 2 mountain busters, one of the healers then tells me I don't have defiance up. Those were good healers.

I was tanking AK and forgot about the 3 gargoyles that spawn before demon wall. Needless to say I pulled 6 mobs on the party and ended up killing both myself and the healer.

I got two of them. First was at WP last three tonberry. Was mind numbing doing overpower while pt opens door over and over and over then I notice in chat.....javid....the healers dead.....evidently two of them were attacking her....good job tank


Second happen s allllllll the time. On gamepad menu layout 1 is same as jump......all the time I'll be caught jumping up and down but pulling no aggro and the party is dying.....

Tanking Caduceus, i used cover over a blm. Caduceus cleaved us, striking my around 6k and instant kill.

My biggest derps have been in Brayflox, by far. But that's just 'cause I've run it so much more than any other dungeon on my tank-alt lately.

The first is usually up until the first or second boss: I completely forget that Defiance needs to be reapplied when you enter an instance. Sooooo many times I get to the first boss and think to myself, "Wow, these DPS are doing a great job! But why am I taking so much damage?" Luckily, I've always had a really good healer, so I haven't gotten into too much trouble.

The second derp was earlier today. At the section where you rescue the goblin pathfinders, I tend to go for the goblin in the alcove first over the one on the tiny island, but my party decided to go for the island goblin. I went for the alcove goblin. What ended up happening was I was tanking those three dragonflies for about a minute, wondering "Where the hell is the healer?" She comes bolting around the corner and she's healing me with Physick, but her fairy isn't doing anything. Then it hits me: they pulled the other mob. So I run out and see the Bard tanking one dragonfly while the Scholar's fairy heals him, and the Summoner's Ifrit-egi is tanking the other. It was hectic as hell when I joined in, but we all lived and had a good laugh about it after.

I am no tanker but.....I saw a tanker in my server that

After two days, I lined up for DF, had the same tanker, of course i remember his name. And yeah, he did not change his style. =.="
