All I can read is "MY VIDEO GAME DOESN'T WORK AND I'M GONNA BE SO UPSET UNTIL IT WORKS!"

I love how quick people are to forget this is a business. And a letter doesn't fix issues the game is having that prevent new/returning players from playing. Meanwhile, the Japanese servers are having no issues and NA/EU should be quiet about being punished? I'm not saying they aren't working on it but don't make a letter celebrating the moment when you have so much to fix.
Every fiber of me was disappointed with the Beta 4 and Early Access. Everything from how it was handled, to the lack of communication during Early Access (they told us to flock to social media, yet they didn't update their Twitter until after EA was almost over), and I don't like how Square Enix isn't transparent with their actions and decisions.
That being said,
I fully acknowledge that this is the beginning of the game. MMOs have these sort of issues, and if they continue to work towards and fix all the server problems, I'll be happy. The game itself is fine (thank God for that), and everything Yoshida implemented to make this game a fluid, fun, and attractive game gets my 100% approval. Call the apologies a cop-out, but the emotion behind what he does is real, and I'm hoping that transpires to new and innovative expansions in our near future.
Good job, Yoshida -- I hope you continue your passionate work on FFXIV, and that the servers are fixed soon.
Agreed man. Its a shame most of the people posting in here think the world and everything in it happens in a bubble where things never go wrong. I hope none of them ever finds themselves in a position of leadership, but sadly that's not the world we live in. Cowards and children never realize that hard work is a virtue unto itself. Must be nice having everything handed to them their whole life.
other then the server issues the game is fun hard it got the better it got.
I think he can rest easy about the game bringing shame to the company. Launch issues and some game issues aside, this is a quality title that the company can be proud of. I don't know if its the best MMO in the market, but its a good one, and it brings back the aura of Final Fantasy that is all too often lost in ther recent single player titles.
I watched the video earlier, and I got a little choked up. When I get on here and I look for answers to my issues (error codes a what not), I often found most crying havoc and letting slip the dogs of war. The angry mob was formed and demanded satisfaction, and I won't lie, I found myself swept up in the mass like most others. When I saw that video though, I instantly felt a great deal of shame for not appreciating this man and his crew's hard work. I realized that I had felt those same tears before. They were tears of stress. Tears that are brought on by overwhelming odds that only you can bare, and what's worse the moment something goes wrong, the people you are trying to please turn against you like a pack of wolves. I'm sorry, but I too have been given a pile of shit before and been told, "Now make it diamonds." I hope someone else out there feels the same as I do.
Looks like there are alot of 5 years old kiddies, those kids who can only yell i want i want and i want it now! Do everyone a favour, leave the game and grow up.
If you want a nearly perfect game, then don´t buy the game @ the release date.
There are always issues with games, especially with mmo's but some people don´t care about it, because people who make a game aren´t allowed to make mistakes because its their job to make a perfect game w/o issues.
You bought the game with your hard-earned money? That´s sweet but if you guys can´t read the forum about the current issues (before the official launch or now), want a perfect game right away after the release (or EA) and/or can´t wait till they fix the issues, then you should rethink your attitude.
Sure its a bit disappointing after you went home from work and want to play a game you bought but you can´t right now.
There is a simply solution: Either you wait till they fix the issues or get your money back from the retailer.
Funny thread. You all sound like a bunch of children who dropped their popsicles and hate the world until mommy gives you another one.
I couldn't help but feel his emotions, though it couldn't possibly compare. I hope he truly knows that his fans support him 100%, thousands of us, from all nationalities.
On another note, history is repeating itself for SE. When they faced bankruptcy, they released the most popular RPG in history, FF1. The title that started it all. Now what do we see here? A Realm Reborn. And they actually fcking pulled it off.
We were here from the start. We put our faith in Yoshi-P, and while I enjoyed the original game very much, 2.0 still feeds my addiction quite adequately.
edit:
I cannot believe all these vile comments I am seeing! Are you people really this full of hate? Are you this frustrated, this impatient, this naive? The MMO launched, these things happen. They made too humble an estimation, can you really blame them? Would you not do the same after such a disastrous start in 2010? Would YOU expect so many people to flood in, even with all the advertising?
As for the pre-order estimations on server limits, yes you can get a semi-accurate headcount from pre-orders. However, you can NOT accurately predict when that head count will pour in at what times. You can NOT accurately predict just how many people will leave their computers on and stay logged in as they run errands, go to work, or sleep. And especially, you can NOT accurately predict how many people buy the game during and after official release.
I've been wanting to say this for days as this is the fcking beta forums all over again- Please take your vile, disgusting attitudes away from here. It is making me physically and emotionally ill. I understand you're frustrated, but as others have said, you're not paying for a subscription yet. WHY do you think MMOs purchased come with a free month, anyway?! Promotional, yes, but mostly? Expected launch issues! With the nature of free will, no amount of statistical predictions will tell you how to be suitably prepared. They are obviously working on it like a fcking fire is under their asses, so please, just STOP!
I remember a time when the PC gaming community had some fcking class. You kids (and "adults") are ruining my environment. Shoo.
The whole Final Fantasy XIV team gets my respect. Much love to them all~
It's hard to watch the vid and not realize how important the game is to him and his team. I could care less about being called a White Knight (so the hell what? Is it wrong of me to be a fan and avid supporter of the game?), I will continue to support the dev team and Yoshi-P. I suffered alongside everyone with the ridiculous 1017,s and all that, and was beyond frustrated having both P4 wasted, pretty much all of early access, and then not being able to have friends roll on our server after I recommended the game and they per-ordred it, and we weren;t able to form our FC up until just recently due to these issues. That being said, we still dig the game immensely, and are looking forward to more.
So worked up because you "paid". ALL THAT HARD WORK that went into those 30 - 60 dollars. All of it. You could buy a house with that. It's understandable. Most people who bought the game and are now whining about not being able to access a recently (1 day) launched MMORPG probably had to save for years in order to get it. It's logical, I can feel their frustration at standing in front of their cheap, second-hand, almost unusable computers that can barely play the game, connect through their 56k dial-up modems, eating cans of refried beans on a wooden chair all excited to log in, only to be presented with a hellish, unbearable "world is full" error.
On the other hand, I myself feel grateful that I've been and will be able to experience such a beautiful world which would have never happened had it not been thanks to the _ TRUE YEARS OF WORK AND STRESS_ Yoshi and his incredible development team went through.
Thanks to all of them, I trust the issues will be resolved soon.
If you want things done, vote with your wallet. Give SE money to pay for throwaway server hardware they likely won't be using 1-2 months after the free trial period has ended. They made an estimate of how many subscribing players would peak at certain times, and made additional room available for launch.
Obviously things aren't as cut-and-dry, but alot of people are making it out to be. Until SE release information about it, we won't really know.
When I've been able to play this game, I've been in awe over and over again. The little things that have made the game enjoyable for me makes me eternally grateful for the work Yoshi-P and his team have done, and are continuing to do for this game.
Just watched it for the first time, makes me teary myself... he's such an amazing guy. I'd hang out with him anytime. :)
Granted it has been a rough start, but the bottom line is, its still a really fun game, the team have done a good job in that area, now if they can just keep those damn servers up.
I think that Yoshida should be procducer/developer to all the new Final Fantasy games so that the name Final Fantasy will be known to everyone again. You clearly see in the video and all the letters from the producer that he has put all his heart to let us experience the dreams and visions he had these past years and more dreams and visions to come. I remember when i was little i used to sneak in to my brothers room to play FFVII and just take in all the music the story and the unique personalites of all the characters and i must say i have that exact feeling when im playing FFXIV A Realm Reborn! so thank you Naoki Yoshida for letting me come home from a tiresome work and play this game despite the server problems and such but that will be fixed soon i hope and know it will be :)
You can't just magically summon more servers when you get the final numbers when EA kicks in. I'd assume they've made their predictions for server capacity months ago when making the deals. They also had included a little headroom, as they upped the number of servers in beta. 2 NA, 1 EU, and 5 JP I believe it was.
You dont have to guess how many pre-orders you have, you know.
There is no excuse for this incompetence and so far it seems like stockholm syndrome has the better of most people's sense.
"I just feel so humble and grateful that i get to play a game that I paid money for!". WHAT THE HECK!?! Most people CANT PLAY and thats the problem. They should be grateful we bought their game, what are you people even talking about. Thats like buying a chia pet and getting sent a rock with grass glued to it.
Someone should fall on a damn sword for dishonoring their customers like this. Its an outrage and im a happy customer, mind you, happily playing and having very little problems.
But apparently I havent been captive in their attic for 20 years talking about how they are just "misunderstood". NO MORE BULLSHIT, FIX THE PROBLEMS AND STOP SCREWING YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS. BUSINESS ETIQUETTE RULE NUMBER 1!
It was really moving to see him like that. Shows you he really cares about his work (like most people who create things do) This is in a way his art form, it took a long time with everyone gathered to help create this, and its finally showing bloom, To the ones who call human emotions just an excuse and the few i see who claim they spent there order all for Early access... really 40+ bucks for 3 days and your ignoring the many years you can play it? [Is himself a 3012 Survivor :,(]. Every game has a rough start, this one only had it really rough during Early access which was a free promotion, Not a requirement to give out, please don't get royally angry over a free promotion. Everyone's human, things happen, if you can't roll with the times and take the good with the bad then.. your living in the wrong fantasy...get it..fantasy.. like final fantasy... Ahh you get it :D .
also to about the servers full things. Happens a lot to many games, take some time to bring in NEW hardware, give them some breathing room.
An amazing speech from Yoshi-P, it really shows how much he cares about the game and community ^ω^
Stop trying to play on a stupidly high populated server. I play Phoenix and have never had any problems logging in. Get that you want to play with your friends but if its full its full.
Business etiquette #1 respect...from both parties I run my own bar/restaurant. You spoke to me like that you'd be shown the door. Your paying for a service which they are providing. Don't like it? Don't pay simple.
That's one of the best game producer I ever known..
He made me cry!
Such a special day for the guy, and the team. Seeing him struggle to get his words out just shows how much he loves this game. He's put his heart and soul into it, they honestly could not have picked a better guy for the job. He's a gamer himself, and it honestly takes one to know one. As someone who wants to work in the games industry, it really is refreshing to see a producer so involved in his project.
For all those who are moaning about servers... the first thing he did was apologise for that. Square Enix don't have a crystal ball. These things happen. Be patient, they're just ironing out the issues. Give it a week or two and it'll all be done and dusted.
I don't know who is showing more tears? Yoshi-P or the whiners on this post? At least he cares enough about us to publicly apologize to us and show he actually cares, most companies never do that, in fact I can't even think of any at this current moment. Somewhere along the way people stopped being understanding and are just expecting everything to be perfect. Give them time to fix it and maybe they might even make it up to all of us, all they are asking is for our forgiveness and understanding.
Wholeheartedly; I can't wait for this month to pass so we can get rid of all the tough kids who are shitting up the thread/refusing to acknowledge the effort put into this game due to their selfishness.
Please level up INT IRL
Very good speech yoshi, goes both ways big personal thank you, to you and your team for makeing such an amazing game :)
And to the few toxic community members who gets turnt on by insulting a man saying sorry and thank you for helping them out, i'm ashamed beeing part of the group you in, it's a rare sight to see so selfish and ignorant people, and i hope you find another mmo so we can get rid of your likes.
Evryone had there troubles, in the end they came up with a great game and that's what matters.
I know he cared about the development of the game, but not this much... Maybe we are a tad bit rough, yeah?
There is no indication of a server's population, Coeurl WAS the "phoenix" when we started playing. EVERYONE DELETE YOUR CHARACTER THE FORUMS SAYS WE HAVE TO MOVE SERVERS. Everytime a friend (20+ RL play with me) wants to play this game, we all have to start over?
Get real. Im not the easy target youre used to, I will counter and I will make you look stupid. Its like I come into your bar, bottles are all dark- ill take that one.. eww brandy. GET OUT, dont like brandy dont pay. Just tell me it was brandy first dude, BUSINESS ETHICS you turd.
