I'm soooo glad to hear this from a 50.

Honestly I've been pretty bored healing dungeons up to 30.

I love healing in games, which is why MMOs with no real trinity (GW2 for example) lose their appeal quickly. I like a challenge in that trinity though, or else I start napping at the keyboard. :)

Good, advice.. I have played with great tanks.. Some like the poor guy who just died in the last fight in toko even though we won the engagement. He pulled all the mobs off me and the damage plus poison was too much for him we won because of him.

We are all learning, I feel a bit like a failure if anyone dies during the dungeon runs, but then again, with no failures, victories loose their lustre.
In the years that I played a Paladin in EQ (spelled the ramp tank who takes the death touch), I learned a valuable lesson, don't sweat the small stuff, the dungeons will be there tomorrow, your guildies will come and go and your success is measured by your own yard stick, not dkp or kudos etc.

I don't have issues healing, I've done it in other games (daoc, wow) my main issue with pugs now are people breaking my sleep. I don't try to be a jerk about it, but If a dps breaks my sleep, I don't heal them. Too much else going on to worry about someone else's mistake.

Pretty sure most of the problem is how boring the class is early on. You literally just stand there doing nothing because all your spells are on the same global cooldown. Conj early on only have 2 spells to heal and it's boring as all heck. Now, if you get an interesting tank then you might see conj less likely to dps out of boredom. For example, I had a wonderful tank the other day literally chain pulling, reminded me of vanilla WoW back in Molten Core pulling hounds none stop. Tanks could help us out by making life more interesting. Although, it could just be those conj suck. :D

I love my Conjurer. Really looking forward to WHM. Ever get into a group with Zoofro Terribad you're in good hands. :)

There's times when WHM DPS is good though. In dungeons later on (late 40s+) 2 WHMs spamming Holy will take down trash mobs far quicker than any DD will.

It's also awesome for plumes on Garuda, if you time it right you can near enough 1 shot them with cleric stance up before they even head to the pillars.

At least some of these Conjurer's are nuking, which is SOMETHING. I've died while tanking because a CNJ ran out of the room to go look for treasure.

As a new person, I find the team needs to slow down make sure everybody gets to look in the chest first, and everyone is with you before you start fighting. There are a couple of dungeons that's so easy to get lost in, do not assume everyone is there and start fighting. This happened to me I got lost the 2 of them died before I found them, and according to them it was my fault. my head was spinning...from anxiety..then they were rude to boot when I told them they were going to fast. Do not make new people your scape goats for bad manners either.

what level are you guys actually able to nuke things during fights? im level 34 and if i dont focus on solely healing, somebody dies or gets dangerously low.

not sure where this "healers should do dps" crap is coming from tbh.

While some of the comments here are helpful for people that play CNJ. Lets not forget this is just a game when you get down to it. If you do not win the first time you can do it again. Some people really act as if this is real life to them and I think that's why it's so hard to find people that want to play jobs like CNJ and Tanks because if something goes wrong in the party those are the two classes that get blamed almost 90% of the time. I play CNJ and love playing it, I focus on healing at the start and feel out my tank and the rest of the group. If I feel safe enough I will toss out some DoT's or a stone here and there, but in the end I'm not a DD and my spells are not going to be as good as DD players.

Ah, so the debate continues </3 Healers need to heal, Tanks need to hold hate, and DPS need to actually do damage. The never ending finger point!

I'm personally coming off playing max/almost max level support in other mmos waiting for ARR, and I think of all the games I've played, This game has a very challenging dynamic for healer. The job is already insane and was pretty crazy of what I remember from my 1.0 days and JUST learning how to play a FF MMO (I didn't play XI, I was on another MMO for many years again as healer). It's frustrating when you deal with both ends of the spectrum; players who never really played a support class and can't comprehend the difficulty, and players who are veterans in gaming who expect you to use their same casting rotations and actions and then flip out when you don't and something goes awry. But, maybe that's the fun of playing this kind of game, you think?

I'm busy enough trying to keep you retards alive with out wasting MP pretending to be a DPS.

The Catbutt twins will Leeroy Jenkins a room before Stonerbro even realizes he's been moved into a dungeon, much less added to a party.

Catbutt twins are now running around in a circle shouting "Gay! Tank Sucks! LOL! Penis!"

Stonerbro is following them Benny Hill style "Stop movin bro! I can't move and attack bro!"

I get frustrated chain cast heals till I get all agro and just stand in one spot healing myself while Stonerbro and the Catbutt twins dps everything down.

I am finding a lot of time to add dots and dps during fights (even some of the boss fights) and my tanks do fine with me healing :)
Macros help, especially the ones I can use to cast through the tank. Really easy to get a rotation of stone II - cure - Stone II - cure etc..sometimes I need to throw in a Cure II but it's really easy to get a feel for your tank even in pugs. If you keep them topped of at all times you do have time for a nice rotation including throwing some Virus and Aero on as wel.

I find after topping everyone off that switching to cleric stance and throwing a few holies out can't hurt. Mobs can't attack when they're stunned!

Bosses are a different story though, gotta keep a good eye on your mana bar in case someone takes a dip in the fire.

Haha! Those are exactly the steps I follow! Rinse and repeat works like a charm. I really enjoy this job. You must watch how your party's overall health is yes. But you also should be eyeing out the targets themselves for a couple reasons, attack style and damage. If you can multi task this you can find where you need to be. If you get linked DON'T RUN AWAY! My first and only issue was targeting my team mates but I figured that out pretty quick. I'm still a fairly low level but I think I'm doing very well. If anyone has any other pointers please I won't know unless you say something. And I do agree with other posts if you have conjurer skills but your role isn't a healer don't use it unless either healer dies or you get in a pickle bc you may regret using those extra magic points/potions etc..

First time I played Satasha, I zoned out once and stared, befuddled as to why our tank's hp is not healing back when I realize I haven't selected him and I was spam healing myself. Something for me to laugh at and remember later. We were all new at some point and mistakes are inevitable. It's a continuous learning process. You can't expect people to be experts off the bat. Some are quick to learn, some aren't. Some research, some like to wing it. Just have to be more patient while people are still learning. Who knows, they might save your arse later in higher leveled dungeons.

But there's a difference from people who are willing to learn to become better and people who think they are too good to listen to helpful advice.

A good conjurer can heal and deal damage they just have to get a rhythm

and what level are you? i've already been in plenty of instances where its not possible to dps at all during a boss fight your tanks health keeps going down 1/4th of health pool like every 2 seconds, unless you just like wiping you are not gonna be dpsing in that fight.. and healers have never been expected to toss out dps in the history of... ever. its stupid to get used to dpsing, because unless end game is a joke, you're not gonna be dpsing at all by the time you start doing raids.

Do all CNJ abilities accessible when you are a WHM or you only get 10 total at lvl50 of both your CNJ and ACN abilities when you are a WHM? thanks.

The problem with that is that with the way damage scales up after lv30 you NEED to focus on healing. It's nervewracking to see a healer focus more on casting Stone 2 on the boss over healing the tank (AKA me). It's one thing to help out with packs of mobs, but the moment you face a boss healing should override any desire to DPS because one slip can mean tank death which then means wipe. In yet another attempt at doing the Longstop I was cursed with a healer that spent more time casting Stone, Aero and Thunder on the boss over healing the tank. Unsurprisingly, I repeatedly died.

i hate it when ppl will say, hey conjurer focus on healing, which i do, when their health never falls below 33%

conjurers that don't switch stances often, and drop in some damage whenever possible are not doing it right.

i had a tank get mad at me, cause i would use the bubble to zone, and then sleep a creep so we could have less of them to worry about, he kept saying don't sleep them, my aoe is my biggest damage, etc.... fools

anyhow get used to this, or find your own party.

It really depends on your tank actually. I have done Sastasha, Tam Tara and Copperbell a few times now and have found that the good tanks are able to keep aggro on themselves and off the DPSers for the most part. This has left me with lots of time standing around doing nothing. (I'm a lazy healer and really... they didn't need the help! ... Well not really...) However, during runs with bad tanks/ dpsers, then everything turns into a mess real fast and I find I'm barely pulling off heals in time.

There is no wrong or right way to heal with regards to DPSing for a healer IMO. Most of the time the healer's DPS is barely negligible and doesn't actually help all that much. I'd personally rather have newbie healers focus on healing only (and learning the basics of instancing such as NOT running away when you accidentally pull aggro). DPSing during a battle is slightly more advanced stuff.

In all honesty I agree healing is our primary role but there are 2 factors that lead to this being an issue.

#1 with a good tank and dps who don't pull its laughable how little healing is necessary you really can just AFK from the lowb dungeons with a peckerdoll spamming the heal key.

#2 with good tank and bad dps, or vice versa. Healing in this game draws SOOOO much aggro even from overhealing. So by the time it gets to the point where you really need to heal you can rip aggro off just from trying to heal people back to full.

Keep in mind I have not healed the higher level instances but from the way you are taught, you are taught to either afk or heal your butt off and probably wind up getting one shot by multiple mobs.

I haven't come across any direct finger pointing (just a few angry shouts directed at general CNJ population) but I find myself getting discouraged when there are a bunch of threads and other players getting angry over a virtual mistake. You get another shot. Its not like 'Oh the CNJ ruined everything now we can't play anymore'
I'm already a nervous wreck each dungeon, worrying that someones health will fall below 50%. I'm just glad I've been blessed with understanding parties

Sure CNJs need to heal but keep in mind everyones action should be taken into account.

I was in a dungeon where an ARC thought he was tank and kept running straight into mobs, dividing my healing between him, the tank and myself because of aggro.
I've been in another dungeon and unfortunately got separated from the tank but he managed to fight off everything on his own without dying.

I deal damage in every dungeon i was till know (lvl49) The only one i dident was Garuda, but just because 3 meeles in Garuda fight is so annyoing.

Trash = Stoneshield and hot on tank and nuke the shit out of them.
Boss first time= lets see how much damage everyone gets and if i can nuke a bit.
Boss second time= nuke who cares about DD that cant move! :P

I usually try and maintain the "healer" role while in parties. Especially with Regen, it's resulting in a lot of downtime. If I know nothing bad is going to happen, I'll pop Cleric Stance, Aero or Virus (From ACN) if it's a boss. But mostly I just make sure everyones topped off if I have the MP to spare.

I cant stand doing dungeons without my bfs tank, Most DPS want to play the hero as well and tank.

Since I don't use duty finder the overall quality is actually slightly better at times~

And normal mobs don't require much mana if the tank has decent gear. I don't know about you but when my tank has decent gear, he doesn't take much damage from normal mobs and this makes normal mobs very boring. Might as well kill them faster or open chests or pick up items instead of sitting around doing nothing except for the occaisional cure every now and again.

I made this mistake in Copperbell - I didn't realize that healing was making the aggros notice me during the boss fight, so on the second run-through I decided to sprint away when an aggro spotted me. Needless to say, the tank died, then I died right after when the aggro caught up.

As long as we're doing some whinging here....

I ran Sastasha the other day with a Gladiator tank who either could not or would not use Flash. He would pull a group of mobs and hit only one. As soon as I tossed any heal I immediately got aggro. The Arch and Pug in the group spent almost the entire run trying to peel off me and help keep me alive. It got to the point where the tank was my lowest priority when it came to heals. We basically 3 manned that run. Pug and Arch were AWESOME.

For as many Cnj there are in the game who don't seem to understand their role, there are just as many tanks who are the same. Everyone in the party tried to help the tank understand what he needed to do, and we all got no response at all. He never said 1 word.

The percentage of people that fail to understand is fairly constant across all class types. It's just much easier to feel when the weak link is the tank or the healer.

My two bits-

Your job as a healer is to heal. Anything you do on top of that is gravy. However, you have to keep in mind that if you fail to heal someone dies and then it snowballs from there. If you only heal, but do it well, the battle takes a little longer but you don't ever have to start over. If you fully utilize your class the party can push forward a little faster but if you stumble... that little time you save isn't worth a wipe.

We should all strive to use our class to its fullest extent. But if you're having trouble doing that, its fine if you back off and only heal. Not too many people come on the forums and flame about how that damned healer in their party just kept everyone alive and didn't even contribute to the DPS! : D
