Well I'm confused, its from NOC_NA and tagged [NA] but then refers to the Japan data center.
Let's hope they mean both JP and NA/EU. If so then that is great news.

I did this before I went to work this morning. I'm justifying it though since I've only been able to get into the game for 3/48 of the last hours...
Also so the white knights won and we're just supposed to sit quietly or get flamed now?
I'm AFKing in the inn to hide away from judgment.
I'm still logged in while at work but that's because my wife is abusing my DoL's to fuel her crafting.
But I'd stay logged in anyway.
I was able to finally log in during EA after maintenance at 11pm the night of the official launch and was able to stay logged in until today... now I cant get back in for the last 2 hours and I don't expect to be able to get in until late tonight... and then pray that I don't loss connection tomorrow while at work.
Nope not me :D if I did i would be no better then those that did it. Log off last night and just came home and log right back in. Carma is working good for me
My from MA. also and have been logged in since the last maintenance lol!
I did it again this morning. The update only made it easier for me to get my legacy CE items and then log back in for more AFKing.
I hope SE fixes this soon.
AFKing will still be an issue regardless of more servers or not. It'll do more long term damage than just release congestion.
EDIT: Some more information. Let's ignore any technical or "immersion" issues caused by AFKing and go right to the most important factor.
Player statistics are hugely important for determining world health status, for figuring out when to schedule maintenance, for decommissioning old world and merging or commissioning new ones and transferring. Allowing players to AFK at all times introduces a lot of ambiguity in the data; does this world really average 3,000 active players through most of the day, or are 2,000 of those just people AFKing? Does this server have a culture of people AFKing around, or do most of them log off when they're done playing? Does a world that varies between 2500 and 3500 players throughout a day only have 1000 active players and 2500 AFKers, or is it a different ratio?
The most important statistic for a world is knowing how many active players are on it, peak hours and bottom hours, etc, and differentiating between players who AFK and players who are active is very hard to do when you don't kick AFKers.
I was considering to do that but my hydro here cost 10x more during the day, so all i'd be doing would be more then doubling my hydro bill just to play the second i get home from work.
I wish I could play, I finally hit level 15 and would like to start getting to the good parts. :(
AFKers are one of the reasons why we can't have nice things.

So i tried to login at 6:30 AM, server was full.
What the ETA on that there expanded capacity?
Don't hate the players, hate the system.
Also, those who are calling for an AFK timer are naive; a simple autoit movement script will easily defeat it. It doesn't even have to move the character but once every couple minutes.
Game mechanics drive player behavior. I don't see this as a negative towards you or anyone else that uses the same tactic.
I mean, there's really nothing in the TOS saying that I can't leave my character logged in 24/7.
Pretty much this, except for me it's more like this:

So pretty much everytime you get a login error, you can blame people like the OP.
I can't understand the ignorance in some people who blame others, when they are part of the issue.
I dont understand how people cant login. just keep spamming the 0 key on the numpad. Usually takes me less than 10min to login.
AFK'ers are paying customers too.
Except yesterday, I was spamming the "0" key for over 3 consecutive hours trying to get in the game when I DID get into a queue, it always gave an error in the end saying the lobby encountered an error, the world was full or connection to the server was just lost. Keep in mind I'm in the USA. But I don't see how some people can get in in under 10 minutes.
This thread may explain the success / fail rates for some people: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...lation-Numbers
Seems I'm in the lowest populated NA Legacy server which may be why I'm able to consistently get in 3-20 minutes if I drop with 90000.
You do realize there are more timezones than just your own right? You probably don't play during the NA PrimeTime.
AFKers might be paying customers too, but "If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem"
It's pretty selfish to think it's alright to take up a "limited" slot on a World when you aren't even playing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll just leave my Backpack on this Roller Coaster Ride encase I want to come back and ride it later, that way I wont have to wait in line, I am a paying customer afterall, hick hick.
Guess how many people would be stuck waiting in line, if everyone who came off the roller coaster held their spot...for later....if they came back...
Then we have this mindset - "Stupid Theme Park, why don't they build bigger Roller Coasters, FML."
I know ignorant people will always be ignorant, that's why I hope they add an Auto AFK Kick feature.
Yeah, sorry but it's pretty low to take up slots being AFK when you aren't even playing. You're making it harder for your brother gamers to play, and if you continue to do so you encourage them to quit the game.
Instead, login only when you NEED to. See this post for how (on pcs):
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/g...V-PC-Only.html
Yes, it seems simple, but don't expect a Japanese Company to even consider the thoughts of selfish NA players. It probably wouldn't even occur to them as a possibility that players would knowingly stay logged in if it meant that others would be locked out.
It's funny to see people throwing around "favouritism" responses that the JP Servers are so much better managed and are so much better because they don't have the issues that the EU NA Servers have. Or is it just that they are more respectful of each other and thus the servers are actually able to rotate players through during different playtimes the way they should.
Different cultures operate differently, simple as that. Is it up to JP players to learn to be more selfish? Or should NA players learn to be better players.
I admit that I had considered leaving myself logged in while I'm at work but decided against adding to the problem and frustration of others. It's kind of a dbag thing to do.
Great, just great, fools like you are one of the major reasons for the problem. "Oh look how smart I am, the server is full so I will leave my toon logged in so I can play, screw everyone else!" You know why the server is full? it's because or fools leaving their character logged in 24hrs a day. The problem is that as soon as one does it, another does, and pretty soon you have 1017 waiting at peak times, so other login off-peak and leave their character in. like a snowball rolling down a hill, that gathers more snow as it goes, the worse the 1017 gets, the more people who login and park.
Except that sooner or later most if not all of the 1017 wait time can be attributed to fools like you blocking space on the server, it doesn't matter if the server is given more memory or CPU, fools parking characters in a selfish and ultimately stupid attempt to 'beat the system' will fill up the available slots and prevent other from actually playing.
Since the OP and others have already proclaimed how self centered and arrogant they are by their conduct and posting about it here, I need not really say much more. I will add though, that I hope your character get's DC'd and lost in error 90000/3102 limbo for several days, it would serve you right for being so damned selfish.
"You're either part of the solution, or part of the problem. So quit being part of the problem!"
AFK auto-kick for the win! At this point I think a 60 minute autokick on players in a sanctuary/inn is required, and perhaps a 2hr autokick for characters anywhere else in the game. It's time to take care of these selfish people.
I'm sure that some of it is cultural and about the inherent politeness and respect people in Japan operate with, but it's also because the JPN servers are not handling such a huge demand from users since they cover a comparatively smaller market than all of NA/EU. If you read and dig, you'll find that JPN servers have had the same issues as the NA/EU ones, just not with the same frequency.
No offense intended, please do not twist my words. Take your anger and apply it at the 0 key that you might attain a log-in slot more efficiently. After working 9 to 5, i find i must log on during peak hours PST. It is fortunate that i have little issue getting in. I thank the twelve that weekends maintain this buff.
Yes, yes I do.

Periodically I check to see if I'm logged in.
I'm stuck logging in at 7pm EST - Here's my thoughts on that.

Wow, I must give at least a little thanks to the OP for starting this thread. With the 7000+ views and the discussion going on, people must have really been taking it to heart.
I haven't been able to log in at all since Monday but last night, while there was a que I was at least able to log in.
It's hard to say if it's because of any network work on the NA side, or just 1000's of less people leaving their character AFK all day, but it seems to be making a difference. Thanks to everyone who stopped leaving their characters on, I don't mind waiting 30 minutes to get logged in, but 3 days was a bit too long without my fix.
How many people got the wrong version of the game? I bought the Collector's Edition and got the 1017 Edition instead. The first quest is constantly spamming the Start sequence which has no time limit and the quest reward is playing the game. I really hate that quest.
