Forcing everyone to craft, Is it good direction for FFXIV?

Maybe they could simplify crafting system so that all crafts used only one type of fent/spetch to repair gear. This way it would reduce the problem of not only needing to find a relevant crafter, but finding one with the correct repair materials too.

I find carrying arround the repair materials for my weapons helps me find crafters to repair my items if I cant repair them myself (although I do have most crafts at R25 and many at R36 and one at R50 which goes to show that I am not so dependent as some people who dont have any crafts).

I don't see this as a problem of FFXIV though. Repair is a feature in FFXIV that support the economy (making sure that crafters never work in a saturated market and are at a loss for things to do) and also facilitate social interactions. They've already automated the combat system, let's not allow them to automate the economy too, thanks.

@Evangela True but in a game like this when people can get repairs for free amongst friends, what incentive is there to go to the NPC? If anything, a player should only be able to repair to 80% or whatever and the NPC should be able to full repair if you wanted them to be the best in an every day situation

IMO Crafters are important, this game fun because it take both side of the team where ppl like crafting and ppl who like just.. fight it out. I'm happy with the way the game it is now. With the Armory system which make it much easier to find ppl to repair to. >_<

In a saturated economy they cannot do that. Haven't you ever heard of the sad state of FFXI's economy at endgame for any crafter who wasnt an alchemist or culinarian? Only those who crafted consumables made much money at endgame when there was more gear than there was demand for said gear.

It really seems like you are overly hostile Thevedis... which seems to be a very common thing I see coming from you. She isn't saying she doesn't want to interact with people. That's completely beside the point.

I have a feeling that being repaired by a PC will give a longer lasting repair than the NPC's "unlike the 75% they are now"

NPC repair: 100%

PC Repair: 150%? or something silly to that extent.

I have a hard time putting what i want to say in words. It upsetting and very frustrating to deal with. I have to type stuff out very quicky or lose my train of though. Thats how my ADD effects me. I also never had the best grammar and had had to have a few aides to help me with it. Which as you can tell never really helped. Its just something I can't graspe no matter how hard I try.

again those prices are not real. Just used as an example. There is no need to take those numbers seriously and point out that I don;t play the game.

I repeatedly told ppl its not like I have a choice in not being able to play.

Except that this topic is a fairly common problem across many of the regions. I know many such people who felt compelled to craft just for the same reasons. It's not about not wanting to find people or socialize or anything like that. How about you stop trying to "just give people facts" and try to understand why they think the way they do. That's the easiest and most effective way to debate a topic. Not just say, "thats the way it is... deal with it". Not every plays games like this for the same reason and under the same circumstances

the difference bnetween some other threads and this one
the OP specificaly has stated they are anti social
that they dont want to have to go to anyone for repairs
that they are willing to pay for repairs from the npc

they are basicaly stating they want to play the game solo(also, i have delat with op in game, they really are extremely anti social)

i can understand the older complaints about this when players didnt have all the repair options they do now, but complaining about it as if we were still at launch is what this is coming down to

there are no shortage of crafters to repair things
there is no shortage of gil to spend to get repairs

if you cant understand that, then where have you been?

And eva is pretty much acting like they don't talk to other people most of her posts consist of 2 senteces. One being someting against WoW the other a complaint of ffxiv.

Also mmo are NOT for anti-social people. No matter how ppl play, there will be a time you will need to talk to another player. Or get help from another player. That is the nature of mmo. MMo are never 100% solo. ffxiv raids and endgame will require groups of players. Just like every other mmo.

If you enjoy playing in large worlds elder scrolls are the game for you. And their worlds change as you progress both in levels and from story. The higher the level you get the more deadly the enemies you will need to fight. I personally can't wait for skyrim :)

Well forgive me for not lurking on the forums and remembering every person and what they say in other topics. I'm just looking at whatever was said in this topic. I glanced over the ENTIRE thread and not once had OP stated that they had no intent on conversing with other or that they are antisocial or anything of the sort. I'm taking what I can see here in THIS THREAD and that's all I got.

But even if I needed my Buc's Sash repaired, do you know how long that takes to find a weaver to do it? And even if there is a Weaver that high enough and wasn't AFK how many weavers carry Karakul yarn on them? It took me nearly a week of asking around to get that thing repaired. It's not always easy even when you are offering 10K rewards

yeah karakul yarn is a problem, im about to ding 50 in 5 minutes and ive never had it myself

id call it one of those very few exceptions to the easy repair

Which happens I had a similar issue in ffxi getting velvet slops. I had the required mats too. I needed them for the second bygrid quest so I can turn in my sub for the 50 dnc/thf body peice. And this thread eva does give off anti social. I used to be that way myself due to the ritlin I had to take. It made me put all my focus on my work and I felt talking to ppl was silly and a distraction. every person i met always asked me why I was quiet. I just never say a point in talking. And focused on my work.

Things changed after I played ffxi though I broke outa myshell. :)

yes, but that's because of a lot of players who don't want to craft... they already left the game

That is only partially right. Most non-crafters that left the game left because they had nothing to do.

and I never anti-social

I chose Besaid because it's the most populated server, I love to be in a large LS, crowd cities, grinding party, leve link, etc

I once quit the game after the Nov patch because they ruined the party grinding

since when I said I don't want to talk to people? even I'm not a native english user but I'm very sure I love to talk and maybe I talk too much and I'm not an anti-social player

it is fairly easy to find someone to repair your gear in Uldah and you can get most things repaired for 2-5k, its cheap.
I think repair feature is nice and gives crafters something to do.

i like preent system. maybe the NPC is somewhat expansive, but it is only 'emergency' system.

I think the NPC prices are fair and required to assist in the building of the ingame community (ie. encouraging people to interact with each other instead of with an NPC), however I do agree that he should repair to 99%. 75% is when I start to think I may need my gear repaired. The NPC is a jack of all trades, master of none, so I don't think he should be repairing to 100%.

For those crafts with more uncommon materials, it's often a good idea to acquire the repair item yourself and stick it in your bazaar for sale, ie. selling the repair item for 5k with the repair up for 15k, to encourage a crafter to buy the repair item to do the repair.

I don't think I've used the repair NPC since November. There's just so many people out there willing to do repairs and help out.

I havent taken any craft past 20 yet and somehow all my R40+ gear is somehow fixed. Its a mystery, oh wait no it isnt. I have a good LS.

Maybe if you stop leveling your CON in level 48 Iron gear and a decent level weapon instead of the 47 CON weapon it wont break as fast and you won't need to have it repaired as much. I rarely have to repair my gear myself due to the new patch that lowered the dura.

I rarely need to repair my gear anymore, it takes weeks to actually lose dura on gear, even weapons. It's also very easy to get stuff repaired, I put something up for 1gil to get repaired in uldah by my friend and someone else did it for me, I didn't see who but that person was really nice ^-^

You don't have to level crafts anymore, this post would have been true in 2010 when weapon dura would die after like 30-45 mins of leveling. I don't think the OP actually plays the game anymore, they're consistently wrong and very low level :(

Forcing everyone to craft... not problem but real problem is.. how to train you craft skill method... so bored when over 30... why SE not make it like fishing in FFXI that u must alway active and excite and when syn hard item that still can win with human skill -3- not bot pump craft skill like now... when i found someone craft... from 6.00 and when i back online when 20.00... that one still same place same angle

Nobody is forcing you to craft just like nobody is forcing you to level X class or whatever.

The reason for this "materia thing" is to help keep crafting alive, since back in XI within the first 2 years crafting just bombed.

You're not "forced to" because you have the option of getting the NPC to repair (although not full, which I think they should at least change that) or put up a repair flag and have someone repair.

Honestly after having the repair flags I rarely have things go unrepaired for longer than a day, don't forget you can put it on your retainer and throw it in the wards to get repaired too. So after a long night of partying/grinding, set up your retainer and log off.

Have you not logged on recently after the change to durability evangela? That made a VERY big difference with how often you need repairs, and I don't see hardly anyone complain about this much anymore.

There's a lot of aspects of this game that forces you to be dependent on someone else in some way. I don't think that's a bad thing. For a community to survive, they have to work together.

In direct answer to your question, the game does not force you to craft. It just forces you to either do the job yourself, or depend on someone else, whether through friendship or payment for someone else's hard work (leveling). Yes, I do think this is a very good direction for FFXIV. Negative community is a big issue in mmos. Soloing should be possible, but not completely independant. It should be that you either depend on others to make it easier, or work a lot harder to make it solo. That's the way life really is, and it should help to keep the community more agreeable. I hope. :)

This entire thread is a strawman argument. No one is forced to craft. Since the addition of the bazar repair icon it's extremely easy to find someone else to do repairs in a very short timeframe.

I definitely can't repair my gear at the moment, and I never once felt "forced" to craft more to be able to repair it myself. It's actually quicker to just slap it into the bazar than to change class/equipment to self-repair anyway.

The only thing that's "forced" is the interaction between crafters and non crafters. Which is a very good thing.

I think you're vastly underestimating the sheer number of antisocial people in the game. :)

However, I do agree with Abriael's post.

My philosophy isn't the cost of the mat it is I pay more for repairs for higher level gear and that makes the most sense to me. So what if the mat costs 1k gil to fix it may take a 38-40 Carpenter to fix it.

Honestly, crafting is boring for me at the moment, its ok for me to do it once in a while but to craft the same Item 300 times for one lv is nothing for me.
But there a enough people who have fun with it and actually are doing the repairs and I think i give good Gil for it.
And Crafters are important, the NPC is not really an Option and i hope that it keeps that way.
And I never needed to wait more than an Hour.
