Hoping for PUP in the future, could just imagine the endless customization when it comes to the Puppet!
Yoshi-P said if he did make GLA have DRK, when you equipped the job soul stone all your tank and shield abilities change over to great sword and dd abilities. He said this was also just an example of how he'd do classes that are a different role than their job.
The Soulflayers they added, make me think "BLUE MAGE!" immediately.
Behold: future jobs... http://www.freakingnews.com/pictures...bot--89900.jpg
Esper cannot be a job in the FF universe as Esper is the term used to coin the magical creatures themselves (Ifrit, Odin, etc.) Read: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Esper Though the word does come from an individual who can use paranormal abilities, it just wouldn't fit right as the name of a job.
I JUST read something somewhere (which if I can find it, I'll edit in the link) in which Yoshi stated that they would eventually like to include a Scout class that would branch off into Thief and in that same article, he also mentioned that they are talking about a possibility of Ninja and Samurai as he said they appear to be the most popular request from North American players.
Personally, I would love to see this Scout class mix with a PUG to create a Dancer. When DNC was announced in FFXI, I laughed. Then I tried it. 75 levels later, I was in love with it and it was one of the main reasons I went back to do the new caps. If it weren't for the fact that the game itself is a ghost town unless you want to do lame Abyssea crap, I'd go back just to bide my time until release. The downside to coming in from 1.0 is waiting :/ All you EA people are the envy of my life atm, so enjoy and I'll see you all Tuesday:)
Heh, I loved FFXI's BLU AF quests
SPOILER
The last mission where you find out that a BLU who loses control of all the powers of all the monsters he absorbed becomes a Soulflayer was pretty awesome :3
END SPOILER
On another note, thank Gob that things like Soulflayers and Imps aren't as annoying as they were in XI
Orthopedic Surgeon 30 "Refresh to clear up Error 3." and 15 "This world is full."
Web Designer 30 "Oops. Switched NA and EU." and 15 "Error 9000"
With ACN, it looks like there will be the trend so that each class unlocks 2 jobs. Judging on what weapons they use:
GLD: Blue Mage DD, honestly GLD is so tanky, it's kinda hard for it to branch off into a DD job
MRD: Dark Knight DD, since MRD uses 2h weapons and already can drain HP
ARC: Hunter or Ranger DD
PUG: Puppetmaster Pet DD
LNC: No clue what other jobs use lances, except maybe Samurai
CNJ/BLM: Geomancer?
Ninja and Dancer (and Thief, if 3 jobs end up linked to a single class) could branch off of a dual wield class
Corsair will likely branch off of Musketeer (the most likely next class to come out)
YoshiP also said jobs liked Red Mage would be "advanced jobs," requiring you to have both WHM and BLM unlocked for example.
*Note, this is mostly speculation
Seems to me that dark knight would be obviously MAR/ACN. Anarchist is the only caster class with the right spells. Ruin, Bio and the closes thing to drain that there is.
Now the fluffy summon is a bit awkward but an ability to change the summon to something darker would work. Though its not true to FF11 DRK in many games this type of class has a minor pet of some sort.
Traditionally, DRK was Warrior + Black Mage. And I think you're thinking of Death Knight from WoW and (forgot the name, was in EQ1, had Necromancer abilities on a minor scale), neither of those are Final Fantasy and are a bit further a departure than any other job comparison from FFXIV and earlier games. A DRK with a pet just wouldn't fit, especially if it was something "dark" like undead, since DRK have more of an affinity with traditional schools of magic rather than necromancy.
Basically, you want to look at:
A) How would it fit in FFXIV?
B) Is it in FFXI? If yes, how would it be similar? XI is already in MMORPG format, so playstyle would likely be similar.
C) Is it in FFI-XIII/offshoot FF games? That's what Jobs are: powerful class upgrades that fill a niche while being nostalgic.
Personally, since someone said machinist and commented on "Called Shots." I would rather see a Job added to Archer that is a Debuff Class. Something like Arcane Archer that has damage over time abilities as well as some abilities to "Slow," "Weaken," or even "Freeze" enemies. As to how it fits in the game? Well Archer already has a few abilities that goes with the ideas like "Blunt Arrow," "Venomous Bite," and "Windbite" and adding in a little Thaumaturge + Archer quests to give a background in combining the Classes seems to stay in character of the world so far.
