Two Different Teams, and Yoshida has released something just as detailed in one of his letters.

If the XI team can keep their word with the timeline (They tried this at a XI fanfest when ToAU came out and that crashed and burned) I do think Yoshida needs to say something to help reassure people. Since that's all he can pretty much do for now until these major changes happen.
I agree we need some news, BUT we can't compare what is going on with FFXI and FFXIV. FFXI is stable. It's a little harder for Yoshida to lay out a road map like that when so much depends on the functioning of basic game play elements that have yet to be introduced.
The in the mean time in one of his letters he gave a chart and he has stated numerous times the order of his priorities. That should offer some sense of whats coming. Not perfect though, I agree. As someone mentioned, I bet we'll see a patch sometime next week.
I think the main problem is people are now tired of waiting. I like to stay positive and truly hope for the game to succeed because I love it and I have been enjoying it so far.
But at the moment the main focus is tweaking of "basic gameplay elements". Sure, they are the foundation for the game but god knows after having beta tested and having played the game for 6 months the whole "basic gameplay elements" are hanging out of my ears, some actual substantial content is needed if this game wants to succeed.
And yes, for that to work the basics have to be right. So it's a catch-twenty-two situation. Redoing the basics of the game is taking up all the development time so people are getting fed up with all the waiting for new content, but they will have to wait even longer now since instead of new stuff all the old stuff is being redone instead.
Oh hell naw, this has pushed me to go reactivate tonight for sure.
As I've been playing since Beta, I've been exceedingly patient with this game. My patience is about out. Yoshida has done a great job and I am confident he can turn this around but I'm tired of hearing, "Please look forward to more information on this soon..." and then when I spam Lodestone every morning...nuffin.
The XI roadmap is epic - I think there will be many of us returning to Vanadiel until they can get this all figured out.
They still produce them new daily and they sell them new daily. Also XI can be installed on backwards compatible PS3s. And it only takes an update from Sony to unlocked Emulated Cell Processor Emotion Engine on all new PS3's. Sony has the patent for it they know how to do it, they just haven't unlocked it yet for anyone.
There is alot of stuff they could be doing and adding that wouldn't effect the core. As I've mentioned before, adding outposts and camp functionality, more behests beyond the starter zones, more leve variation.
my main fear is that they are working entirely on core stuff and in 6 months at this rate when cores fixed, only then will they actually start on things to do beyond some of these bones. I hope and suspect they are working on some PVE but some letters and such give me bad feelings, like when they talk about working on core stuff and fixing it before they even think of any new content.
That is exactly how I and many others feel at the moment. That only core things are being worked on and it will be months before we see any real content. We don't even know if they are working on other things. Ishgard and new jobs and the continuation of the main storyline. Sure they are planned for the future but has any real work even been done yet on those things? @.@
The "Core" Items they are working on are all Battle and Class/Character Related.
But that is just the Battle Sub Team that does that.
Quests/Story/Lore are all done by a different internal subteam.
They can be making all kinds of stuff while the battle team balances their new system. But they can't implement it till those changes go in. So when the "Groundwork" changes they keep mentioning are done they should have a huge chunk of content to drop along with it.
Why do people keep mentioning 6 months :( sure that's how long the game has been released but Yoshi has only started 3 months ago. 3 months for a new team to scavenge through the ex-dev's code and find all the notes to where stuff is coded at, can't be done as fast as you might hope. Specially when everyone codes differently(sure there is guidelines and syntax rules/company rules) but still everyone is usually just slightly different.
And for XI v XIV argument, not sure how those two can be compared. Those dev's have been together for such a long time, the director has overseen their work and what they are capable of, so hes confident in creating time lines like this. Yoshi doesn't have that luxury yet he is still learning his teams ability.
It does suck not having our patch yet, but like others said should be within a week (logically it makes sense). Anyway proceed to have your 'discussion' if it can be called that. :D
Same here, I get up every morning and literally first thing I do is check the Lodestone for new patch information even though I know this patch isn't going to have any new content persay. I just want to know what is being changed now before the content comes out next month or whenever it will be.
I just woke up, checked the lodestone, and nothing again... GIVE US SOME INFO ON SOMETHING
I predict we hear something tonight
They have had a habit of posting news about mid week patches on their mondays(our sunday nights)
Never expect any news on a weekend.
While the FFXI changes look nice, I wish they were done a long time ago, when I still could hold interest playing. I always wanted to reroll to a Mithra from a Hume (which is one thing I'm glad I could do for FFXIV), but I didn't want to give up the NM drops I spent a lot of time killing myself over for. I feel like FFXI is similar to Pokemon now, it was fun in the beginning but now they've added so much I don't feel like I'm getting into the same game anymore.
I'm hoping we get something Monday morning. Still steamed over the only news we got this last week was enlarged spell effects.
I'm hoping SE was like "Instead of sending out the info let's just work more and polish up some stuff without interruption."
I would definitely like a time line for the Battle and Class system changes at the very least. I haven't and am not going to bother playing until these go live because I will start fresh on a new character. I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for these core system changes to be put into effect before they try the game again.
Well I know somewhere, possibly in one of the interviews during March, they said it would be about 2 months before we saw all the combat changes. Taking into account the 2 week downtime (which they may or may not have been working during) I'd give them until the end of June.
We will have some info next week. If patch 1.17 was delayed around 2 weeks, the next one is the 2nd week. If the patch is not released, then we will have some info, and a release date.
I don't expect battle system changes in this one, but truly in the next one.
We will have some "minor" changes in patch 1.17, plus Easter Egg (that will give us something else to do, while we wait for battle changes).
They need some more time... and we need a little more patience. Is hard, but I think it will compensate the waiting ^^
Companies are coming in 1.17. This is a no-brainer. It may be the only substantial addition in the patch, but it is coming.
You can dig up this thread if this isn't the case and I'll eat my virtual hat.
Well...we are definitely getting info this week since the patch is supposed to be on time for easter
Sounds very cynical but I'm in a cynical mood at the moment...so who wants to take bets on whether or not the announcement is them increasing the size of craft animations~ :p
Yeah, info on them is to be released right before 1.17 hits.
It kinda sounds like... a patch teaser. He was originally planning to address companies "at the end of March" (original date for 1.17) but he pushed it back. Why would he push it back? Why is it so important to keep the launch of 1.17 and the info on companies so close together? Moreover, they have a "page dedicated to in-game companies coming up" in the near future as well. He isn't hyping this stuff right now for no reason.
Give me a break. Companies are coming, and my hat is not leaving my head.
i do wish that they were a little more up front of the types of things they are currently working on and things they are attempting to get done in time for the patch. tanaka, for all of his flaws, did a very good job of telling us what they were working on and what they had planned for the puture.
i just don't understand why he was destroyed, but yoshi seems to be given a pass even though he has done an even worse job as of this point in communication. aggro icons/ ! over npc's anyone? i do understand that tanaka released the game in bad shape so do not take me as taking up for him. i am just saying why did we trash one and not holding the other to the same standards?
