Ferne hinting it might be a new job after all....
Tbh... I like being hyped even if it proves to be wrong (hey, it's a nice feeling). I'd like to eventually see Necromancer or Dancer job make it in.
EDIT: NECRODANCER!!!
Ferne is such a troll :/
Michael Jackson AF, Make it happen SE.

Meanwhile, at the Thaumaturge Guild...
XD omgosh /thumbup
Well... in the case that is it actually a Scholar... I would be upset if they still had control of Carbuncle.
There are so many other mage jobs to be had instead... Blue, Red or Green
But I still think that it is only an Arcanist and we are only just seeing new headgear along with many more new gear items in the picture.
Wtf I love this bro
my thought is that they are giving classes; class specific armor. if you look around the outside there are a few others that could potentially be for classes like the top left PUG, especially after the blog post makes a reference to all the ARMOR in the picture being in game and not about classes/jobs
It's Quistis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This definitely makes sense to me! Yoshi has said something to the effect that they were considering multiple jobs per class. I just hope summoner is DD focused and Scholar is support.
Lol, I've seen people, hopefully joking, talking about musketeer > scholar. I really highly doubt it... Someone make a gun book just in case!
I posted this in the lore forum, but I'll drop it here as well. After much philosophical contmplation inspired by the works of Aristotle, I have come to the conclusion that the Arcanist is the scholar of the XIV universe.
Around Limsa, various people will refer to those that work in Maelvan's Gate, the customs house and arcanist's guild of Limsa Lominsa, as scholars or "scholarly types".
Like many of the FF games, they have bent the class so that it is not pathetically weak and useless in most respects. In FFIII, it was a utility class that had very little destructive power in its own right. In FFIV The After Years, the called the "scholar" a secretary - she did a bit more than just be a scholar.
Likewise, the Arcanist is a scholar and then a bit more. It is the wisdom upon which the art of summoning is founded. It is a way of making every class capable of being played seriously through endgame, much like how the conjurer is a bit more than a healing class and gladiator is a bit more than a shield wall - that is where the jobs come in.
As for the artwork of 9 characters? They're simply showing off the new features of the combat system, 8 of which are jobs.
2 jobs 1 class.
What about a gun hidden in a book ??

I'LL TAKE IT.
Just to stir the coals here (because I'm trying so hard to not let my gut instinct influence me before this inevitably gets gatling'd at Yoshida's twitter in the next LIVE letter or at E3...), what does each side of this debate make of the fact that this is the same character making the same facial expression?
I don't know if it's been said elsewhere, but it's worth noting that every character in the foreground portrays a different job, except maybe our scholar/arcanist friend, here. Summoner is on the left, so...
But on the other hand, the arguments for her being an arcanist are pretty strong, too. Bah D:
Just pure speculation here but....
We have two jobs able to tank, PLD and WAR, but only one healer class. SCH, far as I could remember, could heal. I could see the DEV seeing we lacked healing options and adding another healing job for launch.
Lord knows, as a main healer, I would love have more healing class options.
Pure speculation from a development stand point.
Sooo... I'm borrowing this from gamer-escape, but Fernehalwes seems to be hinting at this actually being a SCH.
http://gamerescape.com/2013/05/24/si...rs/#more-25006
I still agree however that the argument on both sides is strong for either ARC, or SCH.
It's giving me anxiety not knowing which is which. lmao
Don't take Ferne's jokes too close to heart. He's actually well-involved with the community, to the point he knows how to push our buttons >_>
I am fairly sure he said that in joke tone only because, you know, we HAVE been making a fuss over that. Had we never, he wouldn't have said that.
There's sufficient arguments on all sides, though, yeah! Personally I think the only thing left to do is wait and see
Ferne is trolling...he does that with each rumor. He mentioned the "face north, during 100% moon" etc rumor from XI in one of the earlier blog posts. It's how he rolls and doesn't confirm anything.
I think it's more important to just not commit to a side than to not talk about it at all with matters like these, but I'll give you this: yes, almost every single one of these threads is chock full of people not reading the thread, stating one of the two over-stated dead-horse-beating points of evidence, and then their idea of what it means, lol.
Eh let's be honest, it's the Scholar Job. They needed to ensure that there was a healthy choice between castors, melee, and support classes.
Arcanist is going to be the first class with 2 job options.
arcanist being a hybrid between pet class / debuff class
he specializes by equipping the job stones of:
arcanist -> scholar (specialization into debuff/enfeebling)
arcanist -> summoner (specialization into pets and summoning)
and for what are jobs for`? specialization. and then it makes sense that summoner is not going to have access to carbuncle anymore, because scholar wont so either.
the new artwork would be quiet inconsistent just showing jobs on that artwork and then a class.. and since when the classes do wear job specific artifact gear, which is clearly a scholar AF.
very unlikely. And yoshida also said everytime that there are too less mage classes/jobs in the game.
and also... if it is going to be like in 1.0. and the jobs just coming along with 5 new exklusive skills, and knowing that summoner is going to have 4 summons (4 new skills).. he would just have one new skill left for the debuffer role.. which is also very unlikely.
i think the summoner is getting 5 new skills:
- ifrit
- garuda
- titan (?)
- fourth summon which is unknown
- fifth skill is going to be something like astral flow (trait), to use the special abillity of the summons
and scholar is going to have new 5 debuff skills .. something like:
- a trait that converts the next debuff skill into an aeo effect
- debuff / absorb attb or whatever
- debuff /absorb attb
- damage / debuff spell (which debuffs the element of their dmg skill) - something like the thaumaturge had in 1.0. in the very beginning
- damage spell (life drain or whatever)
