Not really because your world may end up being EU or JP some if not all would like to go to a world that it's in there area.
I think we should have new names so people don't bitch later on that there world ended up becoming JP or something.

Personally, I think it means anyone with an XIV account (even those who played for 2 weeks in October of 2010 and logged out on a Level 5 CNJ and never came back). The reason, I believe stated at some point, is that they want to find out how many players will return to the game which I think will finalize their Server assignment/transfer plans.
Well obviously, I'm not a rep, so I don't know. But my impression is that if you are able to log into your SE Account and go to select services, then select XIV, and under your permanent options, you had the game registered (even if your characters have expired or whatever), that counts. In May 2012 when I re-activated my char to play again (I played for 3 weeks at launch, never got past free trial), my game and garland goggles and what not were still registered and under permanent options, I just had to reactivate my character. I think they're saying anyone with a 1.0 character. Again, that's just my interpretation.
I don't think you can re-activate anything now, or even register codes, but I'm sure that time will come.
Specifically, I'll be looking to find out:
The "do nothing" people will be moved to the same place together.... but will they know exactly what world that will be (and therefore what region)? In other words, will the "do nothing" people know exactly what 2.0 World their 1.0 character will be placed on if they "do nothing"?
It may end up being a strategy to do nothing (for me at least, depending on the answer to the above question, and what my LS's want to do).
Further, for those who "do nothing" initially, will that transfer option still exist for them to use later (within the designated time frame, of course), if they decided later they do want to change servers?
In other words, is "doing nothing" taking your turn, or does it just skip your turn and you can come back to it later?
I don't want to start a whole new thread for this question so I hope the devs see this.
I was wondering if there was any plans for a paid server transfer service when ARR launches for those who may have missed deadlines for choosing a server, or do not like what server they were on (for example, regret choosing a JP based server and want to go to an NA based server).
Before the server merge, Yoshida said they were planning a World Transfer Service for 2.0. There may be limitations or costs, but it seems possible they will have such a feature for individual transfers available at some point.
It would really help to be ready for this if we could get a list of locations for servers. I'm sure at this point that has to be finalized and SE knows whether or not there will be a US-East and a US-West server? Where their EU servers will be located?
I'm not asking for a documented list of names and locations per name but I want to know if theres a chance some of my US friends may part ways based on having East/West coast hosting, or if an EU player pinging to US will be going to east coast or the west coast.
These are important factors for some of us and I'm sure other people have their own other than those I listed.
Just wanted to point out that little bit. It sounds like we'll have plenty of time to figure out where we want to call home.
During that time I'm planning on having my ls members create new characters in the various data centers to test lag. Based on those results, then we as a group will choose a server.
Now that we have a launch date, I sure would like more official information on this server/world issue. :)
- Will server choice be some type of in-advance application process as this OP/thread implies?
Quote:
"In the event that you don't complete the transfer procedure, you will be transferred to a pre-determined world. In the event you complete the transfer procedure, you can select from a list of worlds you can move to and will be transferred to the world of your choice."
- When will we have a complete list of server names and their geographic location/data center?
- Will the servers we import our 1.0 characters onto for Phase 4 become our final server destination? Or, will we have to again select a (final) server on early-access and/or launch day?
- Will 1.0 imported characters have some type of priority in choosing their server? My concern is worlds filling up fast and being separated from friends/LS despite being highly organized and having the best laid plans.
Okipuit, Yoshi, whoever will listen. I wasn't around for the server merge in 1.0.
I've seen posts like the above and they absolutely terrify me. If things go like, this, forget LS's staying together. People could even get separated from their other halves.
Please assure us that you have a system in place that is nothing like how 1.0 was handled, and will not allow people to get separated.
From what I'm seeing of their posts; it's going to be much smoother than it was the last time round.
People that don't go through the transfer process will all be stashed on the same server, this will open lots of room for people to pick where they want to go without having to spam refresh on the pages because every server is already listed as 'full'.
In my mind, the way I see it being done is:
At the start, every server has 0 people - people then apply to where they want to go and fill them up gradually. Those that don't use the transfer will all be put on 'Server_X' together so that they still have a place but didn't have to pick it.
In 1.0 it was more like - Every server is full until a few people moved to the open Ragnarok then say 5 slots would open up here and there before the server reached full capacity.
Anyone, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the gist I got from the dev posts^^;
For sure! I wish what I was saying was gospel haha, I think if things did go as stated in my previous post then there's be no reason for people to be separated from friends. I'm feelin Jilly Bean's anxiousness on the whole thing too; I've got a bunch of friends that I'd like to meet up with, the game ain't worth playing wihout them! ;)
Hopefully we hear something soon, Arkham!
Have a wonderful day :)
What I am getting out of this is those that do nothing will remain in the same world grouping. So I am kinda guessing each server will stay "as is" but not since they will be new servers but the same people that there was on the old server they were all on together, people who move will be on the server of their choice. (excluding new player servers unless starting over)
I also could be wrong, but it's what it sounds like in that clarification, I don't think it will be all one server because it would be overflown with all those who do not move, I am guessing divided based on their previous server and people choosing a server would then add to these existing amounts.
I was thinking that it would be that all Balmung characters will default to New Balmung, all Gungnir characters will default to New Gungnir, etc.
I don't think there will be problems with full worlds. SE is adding worlds this time, not consolidating them 2:1, and many people will be moving off of their old world to one in their region. Plus ARR worlds may be capable of holding many more characters than v1 worlds, just because v1 was kinda really broken that way.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting their thoughts and information. I really appreciate other perspectives, especially since I didn't experience the 1.0 merge (my character existed, but was merged without my knowledge, as I didn't play from Oct 2010 - May 2012).
Here's hoping we get some clear answers on this subject soon! :)
Well, here's our latest tidbit of information. It answers one question, opens others (for me at least!)

Also this post is of note for this subject as well:Quote:

I bolded the part in the second quote with regard to my new question that has come up with the news in Q12.Quote:

If you think this seems obvious and I'm silly for asking, well, consider this. What if a lot of people request to move to Sargatanas and they decide to move the "do nothing" people to a different World to accommodate those requests (since it's easy to move people who made no request to begin with).
For example:
Will we know exactly what world our character will go to/stay on if we "do nothing"?
What if they announce that Sargatanas is a NA-East coast server. Well that's just where I'd want to be. My strategy could be to "do nothing" (if I knew exactly what that would result in). If I "do nothing" and do not apply for or make a world transfer, will my character remain on Sargatanas by default?
Knowing the names of the servers (and even their newly designated regions/locations) isn't enough information to make a decision. If my best option is to "do nothing" (and remain on Sargatanas if it ends up being NA-East Coast) then that's what I would want to do. I don't want to request to move to a world if the world I'll end up on by default is exactly what I'd choose anyway.
Also, at what point (Phase 4? Early Access? Launch Day?) is our final server destination determined? At one of these points, we're locked in to a server. We need to know at which point that occurs.
In addition, for the sake of getting this all out here on this thread that hopefully the OP/Forum Mod will return to reply on, here are mine and my LS-leaders posts from the Live Letter question thread that didn't get answered exactly:
