I'm not too big on the PvP either. I don't mind dabbling in it from time to time, but I sure as heck don't want it to be a major part of the game. I would much rather see their time and resources spent on more PvE content. The Coliseum (or whatever it was called) where players can watch battles take place is about as far as my PvP interests take me. Just my 2 cents.
I thought that was a snes controller in the blog pic, so obviously the hidden message of the blog post is as follows:
"The game engine has been so friggin' heavily optimised you will enjoy extremely high performance even if you run FF14 on a SNES :-)"
pvp is a good addition to the game, but it should not be a focus to the game. PvE is vastly more important for this game, it sorta depresses me that media was not focused on PvE more. Final Fantasy is all about team work and coming together to save the world more or less not fighting one another.
There are many PvP focused games out there, and many of those games FFXIV:ARR stands 0 chance of competing against simply due to the battle system design. Action mmos are much better for pvp then the old school system which XIV adopted (Which is a good thing in my opinion).
I was wondering about that. "1280x720 MAXIMUM"... I really hope that does not mean 1280x720 is the maximum resolution for ARR.
I've been using a Logitech F710 for about 2 years now. You do need to make sure there are no obstructions between the controller and the dongle that might block the signal, but otherwise very happy with it.
Logitech did announce they are going to stop producing many of their accessories (gamepads included): http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/1...e-accessories/
I went out to buy another F710 to keep in case mine ever breaks, because I like it so much.
What kind of Notebook was he running that benchmark on?
Sorry. Copied it out of a thread a few weeks ago about gamepads and didn't check the link first.
I just Googled it and this is the first link. It's still active at this time: http://gamepolitics.com/2013/01/24/l...s#.USAtWWcRS1k
The second link mentions the F710 as one of the to-be-discontinued console accessories: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...le-accessories
I do hope so!
The benchmark for the prior two games was not a good predictor of how the game would actually run.
im sure to get any info off Yoshi-P these interview methods are required :O LOL

and this is what happens when we the public don't get enough FFXIV!! D: LULZ

no Facebook results button!? Only twats tweet.
I can't wait for the benchmark.
I agree that PvP in some form (even minimally present) will be necessary to compete with the rest of the MMO community, but really it's not necessary as a Final Fantasy. Competitive multiplayer wasn't included until FF Tactics Advance, later to be present in Tactics: WotL, Dissidia, and maybe a couple of others, all of which were made after the merger of Square and Enix (Tactics Advance might have been just before, because it was released that same year.)
PvP (or a lack thereof) may affect the purchasing choices of a lot of MMO fans, but personally I think the Final Fantasy name and strong Final Fantasy themes will draw in the game's more lasting fans: fans of the series. FF Fans will likely overlook a delayed release of PvP.
FFXI and other FF players don't care about PvPQuote:
The interviewer just needs the skillz to fish the info out of him. It may interest you to know that a lot of questions were about PvP—quite representative of our North American players' tastes.
Most everyone who plays other games do want it. The lack of PvP is one reason why FFXIV received poor reviews on the gaming sites at released. The lack of PvP is one reason why some players won't even bother picking up the title.
If they have a good PvP content that will be a draw for the game. People will pick it up just to try the PvP if the game sites talk well about it, they can only gain.
Can honestly say I don't care about PvP. I don't mind the implementation for others, but i'm going to be extremely disappointed if PvE takes a hit due to processing PvP content/re-balancing.
I hope they don't delay the game just because pvp isn't ready. pvp in my opinion is not a must for it to succeed.
Maybe instead of delaying the game 1-2 months like you suggest, they should take the people working on pvp off that and put them working on other things to make the game come out 1-2 months earlier :)
Yeah I been using the Logitech F710 since September 2011. I found it to work great. I put the usb dongle on the extension usb that comes with it under my pc monitor. It works great then. As for getting another controller ;x I contacted Logitech I think around spring last year, and told them my one button started to stick and become unusable. The sent me a brand new controller that I will keep in box till this one fully poops out on me. I just had to open the controller and fix the rubber pad. But all in all I would recommend this controller to anyone that want a wireless controller.
Side note the whole 1280X720 maximum might mean the max rez on the computer. Or like V1 bench mark had 2 settings high 1080p and low 720p.so could mean they just for that pic have it set on low to get high score to just show off big numbers :p
MAXIMUM may be referring to maximum graphics settings.
If this benchmark was done right it should have different levels of quality settings, such as Minimum, Standard, and Maximum graphic settings.
I'm starting to wonder if the people who are say "PvP isn't important" hang out with any other MMO players besides FFMMO players... >.>
I've gotten to meet some great MMO players who lead large groups in GW2, and other games. PvP is a HUGE deal for them. They've never played FFXI or FFXIV, but they've all (well both... I only know two of them IRL) told me "No PvP, No deal" when I invited them to beta.
I hope when I e-mail them the news about FFXIV PvP when its released they'll at least LOOK at it?! \o.O/
players who think "this game can't live without pvp" aren't needed here
Edited: i welcome pvp but not to the point where pve suffers tremendously because of gear or abilities being nerfed for being "op"
it should be like how pvp was added in XI
"this game can't live without pvp" players should stay the hell away
Yeah... well, judging by the blog post hopefully the American non-FF audience got their point across.
Don't get me wrong, I love PvE and it's my favorite thing to do in a game. Having great PvE battles is essential. But I also play PvP a lot... It's a great form of content and I can see why some people like it and even devote themselves to it. The numbers of people who enjoy PvP more than PvE are pretty large and there is no reason to ignore this audience. Just none.
I would love to play PvP with my PvP loving friends IRL.
FFXIV will always be stained because of 1.0, not because of this "mindset", it won't recover what has been lost, it can only improve the image a bit but going far as ruining what made FFXI last so long (PVE) won't be as good as the profits being "standard (PVP/PVE)" will bring
i don't really care either way, i'll play ffxiv as i always did, i liked ffxiv before in 1.0 and i will like 2.0 just as much but people who push for changes just because of the stupid belief of "this game can't live without so&so" should really stay away
The problem with pvp is that there isn't a single mmo out that pvp hasn't caused detrimental changes to pve. Mmo forums are filled with after the fact apologies by devs who at first promised that pvp would have no impact.
XI has pvp yet tons of people have yet to flock to that game specifically for its pvp so those that say its a MUST are being a bit exaggerated in its importance. Yoshi may like pvp but he can't just slam it into the game and make it a pillar of the game without killing the pve that makes final fantasy what it is. We will get it but its not going to satisfy any "hardcore" pvpers in a way that they won't complain very vocally about.
Don't mind pvp but it has this nasty habit of feature creeps that end up ruining the pve. Worst part is that they don't seem to care about that and want shoulder in more pve changes for the sake of pvp.
Wait what? Why would anyone make PvP have no impact on the game? No matter what you introduce to the game it's going to have an impact. If you introduce something that has no impact, then why waste development time on it? And There's no game with effective PvP that didn't ruin PvE? Then what games are people playing RN? I know that the game I'm currently playing allows you to accept challenges from individuals and get winnings (or not if no wagers are placed) on a completely Open World basis and I think it's awesome. The entire ranking system is based on a running tally of who does better at the game... so even the PvE is PvP.
It seems like people are so scared that PvP will "nerf" and/or ruin PvE play. It's true that there are ways to do that, but the ways to avoid that are so obvious that you'd have to be a dummy to mess that up. (I'm looking at YOU, GW2) But since PvP has already been announced, then it's already impacting the game, and PvE is already being adapted to it. This ship has sailed, Silversnow.Quote:

I would like it to be in the launch because that's where the game's ranking on the Non-FF sites comes from. The ranking doesn't come from patches... it comes from the launch. Once people see that FFXIV has no PvP at launch, the will ignore the game regardless of the other patches. I hope that Yoshi understands this now. People no longer follow FFXIV...
While the ship may have sailed it remains to be seen whether its going to slam itself into a reef or make it to its destination. So its not so black and white as that.
I wonder if that developer/translator uses every meme under the sun in his blogs to sound ironic, or if he learnt the english language on 4chan.
That sounds kinda like what they had planned for PvP from the start (they even talked about different sets of abilities altogether), buuut then they went and dumbed down the combat system in favor of PvP, which they wouldn't have needed to do at all if they went with these "different sets of abilities" they talked about originally.
IDK what to believe any more. I just really, really, REALLY hope the combat system won't suck as much as I think it might thanks to a feature that really has no place in here imo. Sad thing is, it's not looking very bright out there so far. At least not from what we saw from the alpha.
Did they dumb down the combat "because of PvP" though? I think you might need to qualify that statement. It seems like a strange decision for them to make in the first place. I can understand them wanting to streamline it, but oversimplifying it would probably just make it equally as lame in PvP as it would in PvE. The fun factor of PvP more-or-less relies on the competition between participants. If it's "dumbed down" to the point where it's not skillful, then that decision could backfire on SE if in fact that was even their decision in the first place.
Not going to make any wild exaggerated speculations, or pass any dumb bias judgements.
A meaningful PvP system.
That is all I want.
