Simply question about "Beta phase 1"

I don't know if anyone can answer this without breaching the NDA, but.. I understand that you're locked until level 10. Do you choose a class during creation at all? From the most recent letter from YoshiP, I notice his screenshots don't include choosing a class, and the "summary" screen at the end does't list one either--just race, birthday, looks, etc.

The reason I ask is simply that I'm wondering whether it would just be possible to choose a "locked" class during creation. >.>

He played 1.0, so I assume he knows the difference between classes and jobs. He mentioned quests to unlock each class. He didn't go into details and I didn't ask. Guess we'll find out when we see for ourselves.

And if I remember right, you have to choose a combat class at creation and you're forced to start in the City that Classes Guild is in.

Unless things have changed since the first alpha video (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...acter-Creation), you do choose a class at creation.

Then... it seems to me that one could just choose a non-Gridanian class at creation, and we wouldn't be limited to the Gridanian classes? :o

In that video only CNJ, LNC, and ARC are selectable (the others are ghosted out). These classes are also the only ones shown in the rest of the videos. This makes sense since the dev team has said that what class you choose determines where you start. We'll have to wait and see, but I assume it will also be the case for the beta too.

Nothing stupid about being hopeful. After all we're all hopeful (except the haters) about things in the beta and ARR itself. I'd love if we had access to all the classes in phase 1 too. I'm just giving what I think is a more realistic expectation in hopes that if I'm right people won't be as disappointed. If I'm right, I'll be satisfied. If I'm wrong, I'll be really happy.:D

Unless they add the npcs for the other jobs, or make certain criteria for beta purposes, it will be restricted to gridania jobs. I personally think it will only be gridania jobs. The other weapons won't even be in the game. Phase 1 isn't going to be long enough to matter anyways and they are just testing the FATE, behest, and questing system, not the whole game. I wouldn't mind being surprised though.

Wow so much back and forth bickering over the 5 pages in here.

How about we all just relax and wait for beta to find out?

Gridania : CNJ,ARC,LNC,BOT,CRP,LTH (Whatever Leatherworkers 3 letters are :))
Ul'Dah : GLD,PUG,THM,MIN,GLD,ALM,WVR,
Limsa : MRD,ARN(Arcanist or whatever the 3 letters is for it),MUS(Musketeer or whatever the 3 letters is for that also even though they have not announced it's release),FSH ,BSM,ARM,CUL.

We're limited to Grids jobs since only grid will be open in phase 1.

Not a hard question to answer if you've ever played V1. You don't have to breach the NDA to answer that...smh. 5 pages for a simple answer LOL!

It might not be obvious to someone who wasn't an Alpha tester, but most people who participated in the Alpha are being rightly careful with what they say about 2.0 (myself included), as most of us don't want to risk our SE accounts due to a NDA violation from saying something we assumed was innocent but actually revealed something SE wanted kept secret for the time being. And SE's plans for the Armoury system are an example of this.

SE even warned us that if we weren't sure of something we wanted to say was in violation of the NDA or not, to just not mention it at all (in fact, that advice is on this very forum if I remember right). There's been tons of things I've wanted to say on this forum about 2.0, but I've always kept silent because of this very reason - I don't want to screw up my chance to play this game on release just because someone else wants to know secrets I'm aware of about the game's ongoing development.

Please, don't be so testy with us Alpha testers just because we are being cautious about what we say. Just have patience, Yoshi-P will reveal all in time. :)

Leatherworker = LTW :D

I don't see how all jobs can be available if you can not access the guilds for them, unless they add some other way to access every class for the beta.

they will probably have jobs accessible but only quests for the gridanian themed ones >.> like Lancer Conjurer and Archer but they will sell weapons for other classes and such~

I was thinking it might depend on which classes need to be unlocked by the usual trip to the Guild H.Q. So it might just be Gridanian classes. Unless they have way of unlocking classes without that for the convenience of testing.

Remeber DEVs have stated you start with a battle class and then I think is level 10 you can go and change jobs. So first kill stuff until level 10 then go fishing.

I think it will be same classes as alpha, phase 1-2. Otherwise you can't do class quests, since they are tied to guild?
I don't know if it's really any issue that you couldn't do PUG quests though for example; but it would be a little odd.

This thread isn't just about the classes that are in Gridania, but more-so the inclusion of the classes that aren't based in Gridania for Phase 1 of beta.

I'm sure the Alpha testers would be more than happy to elaborate on the reasoning, if they knew without a shadow of a doubt that it wouldn't violate the NDA and cause them to get banned. They are just being cautious so you have no right to trash them.

Trying to answer some of these questions while not violating the NDA is like dancing on dental floss strung between two skyscrapers.

As mentioned in the Producer Letter, the first phase of the Beta Test will take place in Gridania, and as such will only include the classes that have guilds found within Gridania.

That said, please remember that the Alpha Tester non-disclosure agreement is still in effect, so please refrain from discussion Alpha-related content.

Update: While normally you would only be able to play as the classes available in Gridania, please note that as a special exception during Beta Test phase 1 & 2, players will be able to complete specific objectives to unlock the gladiator class. (Updated Feb 9, 10:20am PST)

Nice to have confirmation. That is incredibly disappointing news, though. Was hoping to finally get a glimpse of the actual battle system with group dynamics, etc.. but that won't be possible without a tank class available.

Will this apply to Phase 2 as well? There's no mention of Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa in the PDF's for that phase.

Indicates that the rest of the jobs will be shown in Beta Phase 3, unless the Devs decide to release them earlier. I would NOT want that to happen if the final touch to the game balance is still missing.

I'm hoping that when the other classes are available, dungeons will actually require more from the players than to be clearable without a tank, for instance. Maybe I'm asking for too much..

Still looking forward to seeing the FATE system and other aspects of the beta test, though.

Phase 1 isn't really about that anyways. But it would have been nice to have a tank sure. Suppose LNC will have to do :)
Phase 1 wont last long enough, and servers wont be up long enough for many people to cap. And GLD isn't really that good a tank early on anyways. It wont matter until phase 3, when we can import paladins and such; if there's even any 35+ instances/fates to do where a pala would be needed.

That is a bit disappointing.. but we'll see the Fisher class in the Beta 1 at least? :/

In any case, only 3 classes at lv35 dungeons will be not totally reliable for feedbacks imo.

Fisher is from Limsa Lominsa

So we'll just have access to:
Lancer
Conjurer
Archer
Botanist
Leatherworker
Carpenter

Bummer, I really wanted to test out fishing in the first phase of beta. It's also going to be kind of awkward not having a tank up until level 35 and trying to test out dungeons. I'm guessing people were able to make do with lancer in Alpha, but it'd be nice to test real party mechanics. Guess that'll have to wait a while.

Lancer tank they wear plate.

ya, and by info in alpha videos, LNC skills do high damage, so LNC DPS aggro. So i'm not worried :)

I was more wanting to check out mrd/gld skills to try and guage future tanking. I've seen a few small clips of skills..
