I used the XB360 (wired) on 1.0 since launch, no problems at all. It's plug and play so there is no requirement for drivers.

Can't wait to have my main menu back.
Can't wait for the video!
The baby chocobo reminded me of Booker and Sheldon from Garfield and Friends xD

Xbox 360 Controller for windows is way better in my opinion. If you want a PS3 styled Controller try the official FFXIV one.
I have that, but unfortunately mine was poor quality. The rest position for the sticks would be a smidge up, so the camera would intermittently look at the floor when it shouldn't. Turning down sensitivity didn't cure it, neither did calibration. The sticks actually felt central, so not really sure what the problem was. Presumably dodgy wiring inside. Makes a nice ornament now though^^
After that, I ended up using my 360 wireless controller. I had a wireless receiver that I got with a Microsoft headset which worked with it, so I was lucky enough to have a decent option with no additional cost. Never had even a slight problem with the X360 controller.
oy!! i remember raising a choco in XI... hated it because i had to keep checking on the dang thing like a child!! lol

This is getting to be pretty exciting. Beta is just around the corner and these screenshots and sound clips have been quite interesting.
As for the OP and trying to decide what Yoshida was holding I would have said PS3 controller because the UI screenshots for PS3 looked almost exactly like the screenshot from this developers blog. This could also be the controller UI though for the PC, either way its a good sign for progress and the nearing of all things good for FFXIV:ARR.
It is most likely the ps3 ui since I doubt they will just talk about a game pad ui in the next live letter; More people want to here news about the ps3 version that a game pad ui. The resolution could also be higher for developer ps3's...
Also... how is that game pad ui going to work on ps3? I don't see why they had to change the layout unless they plan to change how we can select buttons moves on the screen.

The PS3 UI will look like that but if you check the upper right corner you can see the mouse cursor.
I think it's still at 1000. Increase max TP? Why not, but I seriously doubt that they would just add 3000 to it. I'm thinking of lower values like 50~100.
It's probably a stone on the ground making the first digit look like a 4.
Wired Xbox 360 here also and it works great :) Windows download the drivers by itself. What i like about xbox controller vs 3 party one is the rubber is higher quality so when pressing the A or X,1 for other layouts of controller the rubber just breaks and the button become useless and get stuck a lot same with the d-pad.
That why it best to just buy a xbox 360 controller vs other controller because you be wasting money buying new ones or opening other controller you don't use to get the rubber to fix the issue. Also if my controller rubber every does die there a lot of website that sell xbox 360 rubber pads for 1-3$ :) so it 10x cheaper then buying a new controller over again. I think that why overall it best to just get a good quality controller + if you drop it a lot it would get mess up that easy.
Sidenote: I may be the only one who get this issue due to the fact that i play ffxi/ffxiv for 8+hours a day and did a lot of crafting and endgame.
I'm really curious to see how the controller UI is for PC. I used wired Xbox 360 controller since 1.0 alpha lol, got this whole computer for FFXIV (and cause of other games too ^_^). But if I dont like it I dont mind keyboard and mouse.
Hopefully we get to find out soon =D
That baby Choco is sooo cute, can't wait til mine is born!
Yoshi-P and dev team are doing such a great job, they are so hard working. Thanks for all you do!
i just want to know how would it work :) from the look of it you can only have 16 action two of them would be spirt and chocobo mount. But i'm guessing you can press TL and TR and the D-pad to show more action :) but i guess we have to wait and see on that video and then test it out for our self i really do enjoy controller more over keyboard/mouse so i hoping they do it right.
Question. While you played with a controller on your pc did you at anytime meed your mouse? Because i dont want to feel the lack of a mouse when i play on my ps3 of course i can connect my keyboard for any extra chatting i want to do. & another thing i have a 46inch plasma tv... Is it going to suck playing on a screen that big?
bets on when the video is going to air?
I say Monday.
Oh wow... maybe they made it so you press you L or R on your controller to toggle between plus's, press up, right, left, down on you d-pad to actually start the move. Or press up, right, left, d-pad to high light the move button and confirm with the x or a button. Both would end complaints that people who use controllers can't play good enough for highlevel end game content, but the former would be best option because we won't need to confirm it. I personally would love a toggle between highlighting the move for selection or pressing the move for selection with the d-pad.
Now that I think about, I'm probably wrong unless they want to do with triangle, square, cross and circle since how would you target.
The only time i use my mouse was to change the UI but i bet you once you hit to change the layout you can use the thumbsticks as a mouse.
Agree i myself had no issue doing endgame with the controller it was just pain in the ass to get to most of my buff spell that why i just made macros when i was going to do a big WS with STR pot so that did not bug me much seeing how FFXI we use noting but macros lol.
ya i have a feeling we going to see that video this monday.
I never used my keyboard except for typing and never needed to use my mouse. A PS3 controller and Xbox 360 controller have same number of buttons so you can easily map all the functions. I personally left off mapping the first/third person camera toggle so I could use my R2 as my push to talk button on voice chat but that is just personal preference.
While I personally have never used my TV as my monitor My LS (and main tank) used his 42" TV as a monitor for several months and had no issues with it. (As a side note he uses the same controller setup that I do)
Baby chocobo? I'm finally bigger than something. Ever since those marmots and rats grew up, I've not seen much things smaller than me I could beat up.
Well it will change a bit as they are actually designing an second action bar layout for controller users (you can kinda see it in the picture here)
Will be interesting to see but we will be able to try it out in phase 3 I believe of beta.
No invites have been sent yet, the beta (phase 1) is about to start in mid february
We finished the Alpha test so the next test phase is Beta phase 1(the one with automatic legacy member entry). To get a better idea have a look at this it is the FFXIV Beta roadmap, which basically is a estimated timeline of the beta test phases and through to release.
Hope it helps ^^
The way they described it, all the d-pad and command buttons (X, square, circle, triangle on a PS controller) will be tied to a command on your "bar" (if we can call it that) once you press either L2 or R2. That means you have 16 commands (8 for L2, 8 for R2) readily available at the press of 2 buttons, which makes it just as efficient as the keyboard. When you let go of the triggers, I guess the controller will work similarly to how it did in 1.0. When you press both triggers at the same time, you can change sets of actions by pressing up or down like you how changed bars in 1.0.
It sounds pretty awesome, tbh. I can't wait to try it.

Am I the only one who remembers these on launch?
I think they """may""" have done the same thing again, hence the message
" As a trade-off, though, you don't get to see the object that Yoshi-P is holding in his hands. "
They did it once, they could do it again...
Speculation!
Can anybody make out the text in the chat log?
Hmm... that is interesting... I have mixed feeling with having to hold a trigger rather than just press it once to go into the battle mode but I'll just have to try it myself... I'm glad my hypothesis was pretty close and that does enable players on the gamepad to speed up commands greatly. I don't like the idea of having to press L2 or R2 to switch bars simply because of the springiness of the L2 and R2 button on the ps3 controller, but I'll probably just have to get used to it.
