I'm going to school for game design, I'm also working on a small PSN/XBL action RPG in my off-time with like minded people....and on top of that I've also kept tabs on the industry since it's infancy.

It's bad to not say anything when the game is near death....do you realize that? If a ship is sinking, are you going to tell people what you're doing currently to save it, or when it "should" be fixed, or are you just going to sit back, pour a glass of Brandy, and watch it sink?

SE doesn't rely on investors, and is spending their OWN money to fund the game now. The game has no monthly fee....currently SE is wasting money, and I'd assume they're wasting it rather quickly, and that it's a rather large sum. They need to do more than what they are in order to stave off the inevitable.

I don't know of ANYONE that would b**** and moan if SE gave a date that could be moved around as needed....like "we hope to have this done by this time, and that could vary by 2 weeks to a month, but it's coming".....I think the people saying a timeline is bad are the ones that don't understand game development. Even the almighty Blizzard comes out and says "We hope to have this out by x time" and yea, it always usually gets pushed back, but no one complains or whines, because they at least get a timeline on things to come, etc.

And again, when a game is sinking you can't sit back and not give a timeline on anything, because people will get fed up and leave, which is what's happening now. There's such a large amount of people that didn't come back once the servers came back on, it's ridiculous....and from everyone I've spoken to that's quit....not having a timeline, and getting sick of waiting around is why they left, and have moved on to other games without looking back for even a second.

Personally I think they should just update this when they add/change something that's on the list.

For one, the game is not near death. People have actually started coming back. So your "sinking ship" analogy is worthless. But even if the ship was sinking, they aren't "sitting back doing nothing". They are working to save it and they don't want to panic the passengers.

I've made characters on nearly every server to try and find one with PEOPLE, and honestly, even Figaro (current one) is nothing like it used to be....if you think people are coming back, I'd love to know what game you're playing.

Oh really? So why didn't you respond to my comments that refute your "viewpoint". You have no right to speak to the amount of people coming back since you don't play. And you didn't even comment when I told you why fansite numbers have dropped.

And when in the hell did I say I didn't play? Are you blind? I just said I started again on Figaro....apparently you need to get your eyes checked. I have every right to comment on anything in the game, considering that not only do I still play, but I spent money on it as well, as I'm sure everyone else here did. Kaedan, I play ffxiv. I have a second character on Besaid. It's foolish to say that the servers are somewhat populated. Limsa and Gridania are virtually empty. There are maybe 3-4 people at a camp (mostly crafters). The game is headed downhill whether you like it or not.

While I agree with most of your points Belgian, I wish that you would speak for yourself more often.. and not make the same thread 20 times to get your point across. It makes the rest of us look bad.

Daily timeline updates can't be expected of any MMO team, and I'm happy with what Yoshi-P has presented us with so far, despite the ongoing disaster recovery in Japan. And as stated in his most recent letter, he is still measuring the strengths and weaknesses of his team members, rendering him unable to give us an accurate time-line for many planned implementations.

It's not as if your posting this thread will somehow jump-start the development process.. they are already working their asses off to be sure.

I'm certainly not denying that people are leaving. I've seen it happening since launch, and after servers came back online, there was another noticeable loss of players. You seem to be working under the assumption that all of the retired players aren't willing to give this game another chance when it has gone through a major overhaul. That's just not true. Everyone in both my Linkshells who have quit said they would be giving it another chance when there's more content released.

I'm not satisfied with where we are right now, but I also realize that S-E is in fact working to improve the game right now. I don't need a daily update to reassure myself of that either. I'd appreciate a weekly update, and I think that's a much more reasonable request.

Of course we want more updates, who doesn't? What player base of any MMO doesn't want more updates? But the huge updates you're talking about...they have to be developed. Even pulling every employee at S-E off every project to help out, still would take some time to organize, get familiar with the game, and then quality assurance anything they produce. I don't want rushed updates, we already got a rushed product, and we know how bad that went.

Kazahashi. Don't let these guys get on your nerves. The truth of the matter is, you are completely correct in what you are saying. A lot of these guys have invested a lot of their free time into this game, so to hear any sort of disagreeable opinion of FFXIV and Square-Enix's management of the rebuilding process really puts them into an emotional tizzy.

The only thing that upsets me is that I have been looking forward to this game for 5 years, spent 80 bucks on the CE so i could have a measly 8-day headstart.... I want so bad for this game to succeed, and to become popular, and for its servers to fill to the brim.

If I were in charge, I would be running the show a LOT differently.

It doesn't mean anything when A) your statements don't support your supposed knowledge, and B) you have no way of proving it either. I could state that I work for Atlus as a translator and you would have no way of knowing whether I'm telling the truth at all. The point is that making appeals to authority when you can't back them up is useless. (Oh, and appeals to authority are fallacious arguments anyway).

The problem is the visible improvements are lacking, there may be alot behind the scenes, but it's not what we can't see that will keep people playing or coming back. Look at what has visibly been added in last 6 months, and and multiply that by 2 and tell me that will be enough to be a great game in a yaer from release? I hope and suspect there will be tons in background we don't see, but many are looking at what is shown and projecting that same amount forward to get a feel for what we will see. And frankly it feels scary.

His second character is Warcraft Cataclysm and he sits at broken water taking up behest spots at rank 1 with it.

btw, his version of "soloing behests" is that no one invited him to the party so he was alone and solo

That may be true that I said things back to him....however, my original posts were simply my viewpoint on the matter, which was the entire point about updates and them being daily. I can honestly say that I've never gone into any thread and quoted someone just to try and start an argument with them or "refute" their viewpoint cause I'm some sort of message board Jesus Christ.....that's my point.
