I would love to have a lower ponytail for my current hair. :(

Male playing female. After playing XI for 8 years as a male character, I felt like a change. If I had to create a new character for ARR I might go back to male, but I'm too attached to Tyger to change her gender or race. I'll probably play a male character in the first beta phase though.
Altera was a female Miqo'te in 1.0, and she will remain as such for as long as I play ;D
I probably will not make any race or gender changes, though I MAY make some changes to her hairstyle or eyecolor, if I see something I like better.
And I'm a female playing a female, though I do have a male alt.
Forgot to mention, I'm totally going to make a female highlander or roegadyn for the beta and as an alt. I'm curious about the emotes.
Female playing a female, I'll stay almost the same (decent chest size and tail options here I come!).
BF is changing from Male highlander to male Miqo'te - he really, really wants decent short spiky hair
... but I must say female highlanders look pretty awesome.
female playing female. I don't think I will change much but maybe my hair color. I was trying to get the closest to purple I could; so if they do have purple I will be changing to that color. I have two alts now and I might change them completely.
Male playing Male Elezen in 1.0, probably going to keep Cale as he is, definately making Female Highlander because I want to start from scratch in ARR and tired of most armour looking strange on Elezen, may make a Roeg Female alt.
Female playing Miqote and its not gonna change :)
Male Hyur now. Might change to Highlander and make a few tweaks to general appearance, but otherwise staying in the same vein as what I have.
I will stay female Miqo'te but I will change last name as well as some features.
I played a male Elezen, in ARR i will play a male Miqote.
Female playing female, and that's not going to change.
Meo will stay a Miqo'te as well, but I'll start a second character, a female Lalafell :)
While I (a guy) may enjoy messing with the various races and genders of alt characters, my main will always be male.
And I like the idea of my avatar being slender and lithe. So I'll either be staying as midlander or switching to Miquo'te, with beta experimentation to be my deciding factor.
And to anyone who says the midlander model can look like a gay twink, I agree and I like it. If they're complaining, they can enjoy their alternative model options. :)
Male playing Male Lala, I'm going to switch to male miqo'te.
I've decided on her look

Blue hair instead of red and red eyes instead of green.
My God, I'm a freaking genius.

Don't need to change genders. Fabulous either way.
I'm male and keeping my male elezen. Although for the beta and at release. I'll create a female highlander, roegadyn and elezen as additional characters. Legacy status and 8 character slots ftw.
But my main will remain Ronberku my male elezen.
I'll be switching to male midlander yes.
I've tried in FFXIV to go with a female character, it's been the first time I do that on an MMO, but it didn't work, I felt many times I was having troubles feeling the character really mine. So well going back to the male one

I just wanted to reuse this.
Staying the same.
Male playing male Roegadyn, like a boss.

Staying with female miqo'te. Most likely will change my features, and with the possibilty of nearly 200 hair colors, I doubt I won't change my hair. Hopefully they let us do name changes... NPC conversations that say "Well if it isn't Lady Lady" got old fast lol.
Since 1.0 is gone forever I kinda want to move on. Considering switching to female Lala and doing a new name if possible.
Male that plays female Mi'qote and staying that way. I do like the highlander female though, they did that really well.
Male playing both male and female hyur atm. Probably going Female lala or highlander and male miqo or roeg for ARR.
Male playing female
I'll be switching over from Miqo'te to Male Lala
Not really a Male Miqo'te fan
I couldn't stand the "she" and "her" references in-game anymore >_<
Rolling with the same name though. Good thing I choose a unisex type name. (kinda)
Guy IRL. I considered switching to a Manqo'te, but eh. I'll stay fabulous.
Elezen♂ pride.
Player->Character as Director->Actor is not dissimilar to my perspective on the game.
I try to design a character which reflects the personality, role, and ability, that I'd like to see as a main character for the FFXIV storyline -- not only that, but one that has a look that is distinct, aesthetic, and of course, non-cliche. (So no Mi'qote :p )
90% of female chars ARE REALY a DUDE.....
and 3% of Male Chars Are Womans....
for cosmetics: game need as many female chars as people can make then... cos they looks amazing, but also is better if the DUDEs start Recluting girs.... Real Girls To play......
I'm a guy, but.......
Catgirl forever~~

You're suggesting that the majority of players are male, which in my experience isn't really true despite gaming supposedly being a guy thing. You'd probably be surprised at how many female characters are in fact played by females and even how many of them play as males.
Most of the LS's I've been in are typically at least 30% female...although in fairness, typically the more 'hardcore/endgame' the LS, the smaller the 'real girl' percentage. So in my more elite shell, I am the ONLY chick who does raids and endgame on a regular basis. However in social shells, the real dude to girl ratio is much more even. Afterall, according to studies, 40% of gamers are now girls. :)
Now before this becomes a 'girls suck at gaming' thing...lemme just point out that many girls who play MMO's, esp this one, have children, are in school, or just don't like the pressure of attending scheduled events constantly. Or we are playing this game mostly with friends/spouses and not worrying about constantly being the best.
Also, the language and overall behavior of many 'Elite' LS's (not all) demeans and/or objectifies women and basically doesn't welcome them socially. (Not saying the guys don't like the girls they do overall....they just don't talk amongst themselves in a way that makes us feel comfy). Most of the girls I know who are in elite shells 'tolerate' the boys around them but are mostly in the ls's because they want the sexy gears and accomplishments as well.
This may have been true last decade, but I'm finding that the ratio has shifted to the point that it's closer to 60/40 on both genders with male players having the higher percentage in both cases.
Male gamers may still be in the majority, but this is rapidly changing.
Well, I'm female playing female. I don't plan on changing Risa. But I will probably have a male Miqo'te mule.
And for me I love gaming. Love raiding. Love events.
Male playing female miq but will switch to man kitty. But may also try female roe out definately in beta.
keeping main but now that i see pics. I think ill try out BIG BERTHA
Male playing female.
Early days of playing MMOs as male characters but kind of got bored with that. Besides gear tends to look better on female characters design-wise and I don't mean scantily clad.
Female playing female and remaining so :)
