I think a lore book would be better- like Lore book sub strategy book.
Focuses most on the story and characters as well as monsters and zones - with some aspect to strategy but enough that most of it could and should still be applicable a few years from now.
The net is best for actual strategy guides (as others have said).
Agree lore book is 10x better they could name the lore guild where they could release more and more like something something I,II,III and so on and seeing how lore guild can't be outdated that better then a strategy guild when 1-2update that book is useless and waste of money.
I would love a guide book even if it was more a beastiary showing the monsters weaknesses and what they drop, maps of the zones would be cool, and information on what you can gather where, plus pretty pictures. The reason I would prefer this in a guidebook form rather then looking up a wikia page is because from my time playing 1.0 on fullscreen I never could look up stuff and having to constantly swap screens to find where I can get something would become annoying in 2.0.
A lore guide book would be amazing the backgrounds for the cities, the people, the beastman, the land and all the lore that there is for XIV, it well deserves a book.
If this haven't mentioned, you can't ctrl+f a book

printed strategy guides for MMOs are useless because they become outdated so fast. SE is better off not doing one. They're little more than collector's items.
People used to flame the old XI guide but I loved it enough to use it so bad it broke, buy another one and it's about in the same condition now. Granted the only problem is mmos get updated. The xi book had a lot of out dated information, but it was still pretty handy to have around. I hope we get a nice site like the XI wikipedia, I found that incredibly informative.
I love guide books, even if I don't need them. FFXIV: ARR seems as though it will be a pretty easy game to figure out and sites like Mooglebox will always be my first call for looking up recipes/drops/gear/etc. The guides are just great for generally reading about the game though.
I can easily see myself finishing playing of a night and then taking the guide to bed with me to read a while before sleeping. I'd read about the area I'd play in the next day, or the area I was just in, and learn some of the local lore or tidbits of characters' history/personality or some behind the scenes info I never could have guessed. Then I could just browse the appendices, seeing items and monsters that I never would have looked up for any particular reason but just randomly came across there. Eventually, my eyelids would grow heavy, and I would dream of morbols and private housing and a lost lalafell sized chocobo in the woods. The next day, I would go seek out the things I had just read about the night before, or I'd try to find the things that the guide had missed or gotten wrong. I'd be immersed in the lore, history, future, personality of the game, both while playing it and while reading about it.
I want a guide for ARR! Heck, I'd even get one for 1.0 too, just to learn more about the old world and what had been planned!
Yep, dreams of beautiful fantasy is where I got my name. Crystals epitomise that, which is why they're such big things in the FF series too I guess ^_^ It still tickles me when I see the line in the ARR advertisements about the how the "crystal dreams" XD But reading a beautiful and fascinating strategy guide as you're falling asleep makes for some really awesome crystal dreams!

Although it would make a nice novelty item it really doesn't work for MMOs as a strategy guide. An alternative guide to eorzea and the histroy etc. would be a better idea.
