Your gif is the problem really >.> It's seizure inducing and too big. Fix it or feel my newspaper again!
Who are you again? <.<
I still think marriage is a bad idea as far as adding it to an mmorpg, and now people are talking about birthing kids. lol
Well I say a big "no thank you" to that. Besides, I'll be busy adventuring and having fun. No time for being saddled with a child.
actually the idea has some potential.
remember the gardens from FF8?
the ingame "kid" remains a NPC until its an adult.
you can send it to some sort of school where it learns skills with the time and you have certain options to specialize into the direction of the classes and jobs.
maybe you can actively play through some training type content.
and when the kid finally graduates and becomes an adult you can choose if you want to play it as another character.
So your studding him now? O.o hmmm... lol http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lu...jtugo1_250.gif
The "your" is what threw me off.
And yes, that is exactly it. You've figured me out o_o
I really don't see this working too well. It's either an annoying, complicated features in most games where it is possible, like Fable, or a simplistic combat pet, like Ragnarok Online.

Slightly interesting concept, but rather than any childbirth stuff I'd rather see something like the ability to get married, live together in a same house perhaps, and just raise a chocobo. If having a kid is insistent, allow adopting a kid. Since Dalamud fell you can be certain there's probably plenty of orphaned children if you really want to "adopt" one. But overall I think it's better to leave the parenthood mechanics strictly to chocobo raising.
I'm a roleplayer too when I say this but it feels like a mechanic that's not really needed at all.
Two batman jokes in one thread? O.o nice XD

Lol I dont think OP ever suggested to make it a mini-game. Even talked about doing it tastefully which I appreciate.
But the game target audience is too young, literally and mentally and the rest are mostly casual people (either dont care to think about or dont want to have to think about- hence so many vanity suggestions abound (at least from forum appearance)). So the idea falls a little flat right there. But I do believe you can adopt a lot of these ideas in raising your chocobo, certainly having emotional screen play and unique screens for couples would be cool, imo.
Like I said to him, I think his idea has substance and place- its just not here.
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about a CS of doing the deed, or some mini-game or some such. I just gave an idea that I haven't seen in an MMO (reasons why are subjective really). Lots of RPGs have some form of raising a family, like Fable, and the Hearthfire expansion for Skyrim.
Admittedly, those games were rated "M" (or the EU equilivent, as far as Skyrim is concerned), and single-player as well. I would be curious as to see the age demographic of FFXIV (and Final Fantasy as a series). Lots of the people who started with FF1 and FF7 to a degree are older now and have families of their own.
People tend to think that "if it's an option then I have to do it". That's not it at all, it's an option, ala optional. If you don't want to get married, then don't. If you don't want kids, then don't. If you don't want to raise a chocobo, then don't.
There's obviously gonna be chocobo raising, but really, that's quite old, and been done to death. If I want to think my character is a chocobo breeder, why is it so taboo to play him as a father? I guess I *COULD* say he's a father, with non-existent children lol.
Really, the point of this suggestion is for SE to do something that hasn't been done (in an MMO as far as I know). Should they risk this when they already have so much to win back? Not really, that's why I said one or two expansions down the road, after ARR has come out and been in the market for a year or two.
The misery of having offspring without the fun-times that created it? NO!
"Honey, I can't help out at Dzaemel today; one of us has to watch the baby."
"That little **** has only gone and raided the armoury and taken my Bravura to gift his new girlfriend!"
"Er... Dad? I crashed the chocobo."
Although when I retire my character, it had better well pay for a great retirement home.
(also, if we do get the fun-times, I'll change my stance)
Uhh. In Ragnarok Online you could adopt other people's characters, making them have shrunk character sprites. They were no combat pets last time I touched that game.
That could be a way to go to introduce those mixed races from one of the polls. For example being able to specify your parent characters on character creation (with their consent and them being actually married, of course), setting the race to a mix of those two races, i.e. lala'qote.
If you convince SE to desire to create more depth, and less casual / skin deep 'stuff', then I will give you my kupo nut lol.
I also agree to an extent on optional content - obviously when the content becomes advantageous to character skill or some other subjective advantage then it becomes a little bit more of a gray area. Like people trying to say "teleporting is optional" I have to say "no, its not". Almost no one is ever going to wait for you to take a 4 min airship to location if you can do it instantly- existence of some options actually create only the impression they are optional.
Also I did plus one your post :P
Does a Roe x lala look like a hyur? lol I would be very interested in seeing what SE thinks of cross race, specially visually. Would add a lot more customization, I think I would cross race my character If I had the option XD
Half the "fun"?
Um, child rearing is hardly an activity I would call fun. For pete's sake, I often babysit my nephew, and that can be the 7th level of pure unsaturated hell. And he's not even my kid!
And people actually want that in their video game? No thanks, I'd sooner want to have a root canal in-game.
What if it was Thancred's kid? :<
If they DO end up implementing this sort of thing, I don't see them putting TOO much depth into this. It'd be easier for them to also just have us adopt "orphan children" than to create ones from two characters.
With adoption, they avoid the area like sex (even implied), having the kids look like at least one parent, and having to have them since day 1. They also avoid ideas like cross-race mixing, something that isn't really mentioned even in the XIV lore. Adopted kids can already come older, can look like whatever race they want etc.
Infact, I see this idea working out to their advantage lore-wise: I am SURE a lot of kids ended up being orphans after the Calamity, and are in need of good loving homes :<
