Dalamud wasn't red until patch 1.19, which was released on September 29, 2011. Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) made his first Letter From the Producer on January 21, 2011.

Unless this was a plot device the team already planned on using later in the games life, it was pretty improvised. The moon turned red roughly 8 months after Yoshi-P took charge.
There were SO MANY other reasons to criticize 1.0. I don't understand why "copy-pasta" received and still receives so much attention.
You know what cracked me up recently? FFXIV was lambasted to no end because of, among other things, "copy-pasted terrain". But there have been tons of games--Assassin's Creed III being the first one that comes to mind---since then that are LOADED with copypasta, and no one had a thing to say about that.
Towards the end of his life, when asked for his thoughts as to why he got so much attention from law enforcement at his shows, Lenny Bruce once said, "Well, at this point it's chic to arrest me." I think nowadays it's chic to hate on Final Fantasy.
I'm going to guess you dont know what terrain means.. because I know there are prefrences but.. I dont believe anyone can think FFXIV 1.0's terrain is anything different then copy pasta lol
Terrain = the land

Believe someone took a map example of it and showed a few hundred spots on each map that were exactly the same.

For the tattoo I wonder if we will get any hint at what it will be in the upcoming road map~!
Excited ! lol
FFXIV caught a lot of s**t for copy paste terrain because it didn't even try to hide it. It was so out in the open and such an eyesore, that you couldn't not have deja'vu every 12.5 seconds.
Yes, I do know what terrain means.
Have you played Assassin's Creed III? Have you seen how every single cave in the Frontier looks exactly the same? How many times did you climb the same exact tree to reach a different sync point?
They didn't try to hide their copypasta any more than FFXIV did.
Yet, if you look on Metacritic, and Assassin's Creed III has "universal acclaim"*. Because it's ASSASSIN'S CREED, BRAH! It's eXtrEEm!
But be a condescending jerk if it makes you feel bigger.
* I'm exaggerating to make a point.
Sorry if that came off condescending, I seriously meant what I said lol. "I dont believe anyone can think FFXIV 1.0's terrain is anything different then copy pasta lol" So in disbelief I said maybe you dont know what terrain means.
Oh I found the mappy things I was talking about.
Ah, okay, I gotcha. I wasn't saying I thought FFXIV's terrain wasn't copy pasta. My point is damn near every game copy-pastes terrain, but FFXIV was criticized more harshly for it.
Someone who gives more of a crap about this stuff than me should look for natural occurrences of copypasta terrain in the real world. I know they're out there.
Most other games terrain is filled with little objects and other 'shiny' distracting things - the copy paste becomes harder to tell / less often. SE was just blatantly obvious, specially since it hardly relied on any 'shiny' objects but the actual land itself. But I agree its not a unique feature of FFXIV, specially in games without long loadtimes where using the same land group saves a lot of time.
I hope it's not something whack like a head or neck tattoo, we can already put face tattoos on our characters etc so something like that wouldn't be anything special.
A Dalamud poop stuck.
/thread's done, I win. Now go away.
Personally, I want it to be a Dalmund horn codpiece that summons a giant red disco ball in the sky above me and forces all non-legacy players to stop what they're doing and moonwalk towards me.
But it will probably just be a tattoo or some shiny little accessory.
