I swear they should just hire him... or atleast give him a special title...
Cuz he translates stuff fast? <_< I'm not trying to knock Rein by any means, he does the community a fantastic job <3
The reason SE has a delay in translations is mostly due to the same thing mentioned with the roadmap: since they're official statements they have to be checked etc to cover their bases.
Rein isn't bound by that so, while unofficial, his translations hit us quicker.
Nah, just cause he does the community a huge service by translating stuff we wouldn't have otherwise seen... like magazine interviews and video interviews, and I believe he even spot translated the live letters... SE could do it, but Rein does it and we all appreciate it :D
PS. I miss you Vilhem... ours was a joint love of a similar attire that would span the ages :O
Let me put it this way: if they hire Rein he'll be bound by the same things that prevent SE from releasing translations on the fly :p So lets keep him in the community.
Also, you left me for another, so I've shacked up with Thancred. Unless you can usurp his ossum, then I'm afraid I cannot look back. /violin
I didn't leave you... D: and I plan on being atleast 20x sexier in ARR
XD So sexy infact that I will have to line my subligars with heat sinks so they don't catch fire
Though I have been looking for you I guess I can't find you in thancreds love nest where he takes all his girls... :O
I guess I agree with you about Rein.... but It'd be a sacrifice worth making, I mean... working for SE is like... his dream.
Better for them not to release a roadmap now.
the people are going to cry again when SE cant stick to the release date "ah but you said it is going to be released in March?!!".
its done when its done. end of story.
The people who were hardcore into XIV want to know the release date the most because they have nothing to do. They don't want to get into another MMO just to put it down for this one when it releases. The time between transitions, yeah it's creating a lot of hype, but it's also giving the player base time to not care anymore and go to other games. Coming out with something tentative would at least keep people interested.
Every company worth their salt releases a roadmap. If SE fails to stick even somewhat close to it that's not the roadmap's fault, that's SE's fault.
And people have a right to complain about it because it would mean that SE is starting to slack off and get behind their own schedule. Roadmaps aren't designed based on what they "assume", roadmaps are based on current development progress.
I really wish that they had made it possible to transition from 1.0 to 2.0 smoothly. Instead they saved all the data extremely early in the process creating a disinterest in 1.0. I don't know the technical aspects of the process, but one can only assume that there were issues with translating the data that would take months in order to implement.
Yeah, current progress. But unforseeable things happen that can change timelines and create delays. This is something all of us gamer vets should know and be used to when it comes to game development, especially MMOs. And while I think it is within the customer's right to question the reason as to why things are delayed, if and when that happens, they do not have the right to complain as if it is somehow out of the ordinary for a game development schedule to get behind. Not to mention that it is completely disrespectful considering how fast and efficiently they have been redesigning this game from the ground up at breakneck speeds.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why lawyers need to check the roadmap.
People like this is the reason why the roadmaps needs to be checked twice to ensure that anything in it can be plausibly denied and altered and there is no misconceptions that it is a promise, yet people will still believe that it is an unchanging truth anyway.
I would be surprised if SE can get the roadmap out before the new year. I still think it will be released in Jan.
I felt this way as well, especially with all the stress tests they're doing right now. But I read somewhere around here that there's so much data, and even with servers working 24/7 it can take at least 1 month to save all the data. This way they know the data is secure, and can make sure the new servers they're working on will surpass the old ones. From a business standpoint; yes, it is abrupt and will cause loss of interest in the game waiting for 2.0... at the same time, it gives more time for the developers to just focus on ARR instead of fixing all the old problems in the mean time. Hopefully the new roadmap will be a good estimate of what we can expect to come and help some of us who are eagerly waiting... <3
We need to keep in mind that we are in uncharted territory here. In the past if an MMO failed it followed one of two paths, it either folded or it went F2P. When FFXIV failed right out of the gate SE decided to carve a new path, they were going to do what it took to make the game a success. This, eventually, lead to the decision to remake the game from the ground up. I am sure that people know more about game development then I do but my understanding is that there is a period of time where a game studio conceptualizes and determines the basic framework of a game. This is before we hear anything about it, The plans are in place and delays are cause more by bugs then anything else. Here Yoshida and the Dev team are doing things on the fly. When Yoshida published his original roadmap I am sure that he thought the timeline was valid for what he had in mind at the time. Quite obviously as work progressed they realized that more would be involved then originally thought and the timeline slipped dramatically. Yoshida's biggest omission was not acknowledging this publically and revising the timeline earlier. I am sure the roadmap was low on the priority list but once Yoshida went down that road then he needs to stick with it.
Remember this is a game that is using a development process never really tried before so any timeline that we receive could change do to Yoshida's stated goal of getting it right the first time. In this he has my full support and I can accept delays for this reason.
Road map ._.
Since they are going to be off from December 24th- January 1st ( Well-Deserved enjoy Yoshi-P and Team), We should be getting the road map between now and the 23rd.
I don't think people can wait for the road map till January.
