and you REALLY think you are going to play a MMorpg in the subway? O.O
"aurum vale run.. etc.. lala.."
a mmorpg isnt somethin where you can hit the "pause" button you know..

The only problem with a portable MMO is that unless you have the 3g vita you really can't bring it outside the house. The only reason I like the idea is because I can watch television while waiting for people to join me for a dungeon.
wouldnt patching and updating on the vita take up a big ton of extra space o.O?
Makes absolutely no sense to me. Why would I want to play an mmorpg on a portable gaming machine when the PC (and even the PS3) version is obviously so much more preferable? Much more memory, easier to communicate with other players with a keyboard (mucho better chat options), interface easier to see on a computer or television screen (and likely much more customizable), just no. Idea not really worth considering imo.
Isn't the Vita a sinking ship for sony? Totally crumy sales and not a very good enthusiasm over all for the portable?
I don't see a large market for a Vita version.
The money for development is better spent on a a port to the Wii U, Xbox360, and/or next gen PS3/Xbox.
Well some people already beat me to my opinion as they always do on these forums but would definitely like to stress how awesome it would be to do the simple stuff on the go such as crafting, buying/selling, mining, ect.
I travel for 2 hours to get to work... and then another 2 hours coming back home. I think that speaks for itself. I would definitely love a fun alternative to sitting on a train by killing some time doing something progressive that I would just waste at home pressing enter while looking at a different computer completely.
We can already remotely control our desktops from our phones from wherever, I'm sure/hope most of you know that. So it's not a question of can or is it being done. I would just like to see a catered version of this dedicated to the game for either smartphone or vita.
Makes sense...
Maybe a spinoff game where you play as a goblin going around collecting and selling stuff.
well i wouldn't call moving 160,000 units a huge number. esp when you compare it with other handheld sales.
The install base for Vita is about 2.3 million How much will it cost SE to develop and support a FFXIV version for vita? How many of those 2.3 million users will play FFXIV on a vita? Would the numbers add up to be a success for SE? I don't think they would.
MMO games already focus to an overall smaller gaming community compared to more mainstream games like the CoD games, or GTAs ect. ect. To be successful SE needs to focus their development on areas that have the biggest install base. That is Xbox360 & PS3. Not Vita.
I think it'd be sweet if you could use the Vita with the PS3 version of FFXIV in a limited capacity.
Just throw my micro menu, action bar, mini map, and other UI elements onto the Vita while I play a nearly pristine, UI free, Full Screen PS3 version of ARR on my TV.
I was really hoping they would do this for the release of FFIII on the PSP/Vita as the original DS version utilized the bottom screen for character and battle information.
As stated before, I'd rather not see a direct port of XIV onto the Vita. This would just increase the limitations on the software. Having a remote play option would be nice, but I'd much rather they release FFXIV specfic apps or use it as another screen/controller while playing XIV in Full Screen on your TV.
Doing this with smartphones as well would be awesome too.
I'd love to see this kind of multi-platform approach to ARR.
The problem with the Vita is not the Vita, but the little amount of good Vita games. I hope that next year come much more (and good) games for the Vita. And RPG games, Vita need absoluty more rpg games (currently there is only Disgea 3 and soon P4G if you don't count the PSP and PS1 games).
A console can be very good, but if it don't have many games then it has a problem.
It doesnt have alot of games.bc developers doesnt see any prospects in it. The stigma vita has will not change.
hmm. i just read an interesting idea in a comment on the new alpha video.
would it be possible to use the PsVita as a controller for the PS3 version?
it probably would make fighting much easier when the players could use the commands right from the touchscreen
The more I think about this, the more it makes sense for Sony to help fund a port FFXIV for PSVita.
It would certainly benefit Sony and the PSVita in the long-term to have the latest flagship Final Fantasy game on the system AND one of the best MMOs as well~
Sony would get the sales proceeds from the vita copies of the game, (as well as memory cards and other associated stuff) and SE gets the subscription fees.
Then again, since Sony has taken a 50% hit to their stock value over the last year, they may not be willing (or able) to throw money around. :(
Yoshi-P said himself that the game is completely scalable but would only consider other platforms such as the Vita if it were a viable market.
From a technological stand-point it is completley possible from a marketing one, I can't see it happening.

'Anyone linked that interview yet? They've certainly been anything but dismissive of the platform, even if the near future is unlikely.
Really though, if v2.0's as scalable as they claim then I'd love to be able to play on my Vita, but even failing that, that app they said they'd make will be nice, as would supplemental support for the PS3 version.
is there a touchscreen gamepad for PC as well?
i googled but didn't find anything.
no i mean something like PsVita or WiiU controller - just for PC.
but i suppose there have to be games first that actually would use those features.
Dear Yoshi-P-sama can you call Logitech to develop such a thing while assuring support for FFXIV? =o
i was thinking of something with actual buttons and analog sticks and touchscreen.
the new archos gamepad might do it then with the right software.

this could offer a really good kind of controlling instead of smashing F-buttons and Alt/Strg macros.
imagine a WHM just touch the cure command and the party member in the list.
and: it would be something other MMO's don't have.
Has anyone considered the memory requirements? I mean disk space. The game is 12gb on my pc, ps3 has 25gb to deal with on bluray, but throwing in $60-100 for a memory card to hold the game. Also is it financially viable? Will it get them subscribers that they otherwise wouldn't have? Probably not.
Gamescom interview. Yoshi-P said a Vita port is technically possible. But..
Final Fantasy XIV's Naoki Yoshida: "More people need to buy Vita" for a port to be worthwhile
remote play?
if it did came out to the ps3 to support FFXIV it can be good
Edit:
not to mention the User UI add ons if it worked for the ps3 version i quite imagine there would be PS vita Add on for the PS3 Remote play
I didn't see this posted yet, but if it has been sorry
video of PS Vita playing FF14 via remote desktop
With this, the vita acts more as a wireless monitor and control pad, so the "limitations" of porting the game to this system are no longer a major factor.
If they made something official with this capability (the video is showcasing a hacker made program) then the "limitations" of porting the game wouldn't be a factor because you wouldn't actually be porting the game.
Also it wouldn't be just for ff14, but for anything really.
ARR on Wii U! That would be nice.
lol its worthless just too small for a mmo, imo.
Phantasy Star Online 2 No matter how you cut it, this is an MMO. Players on PC can play in the same world with Vita players too.
Watch how they use the touch screen features. its pretty cool
The Vita is just as powerful as the PS3, with 4-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore CPU and a 4-core SGX543MP4+ GPU.
Game Cards for the system aren't really an issue either with 2 4 8 16 32 and 64GB Cards available for developers.
FFXiV on Vita is not as farfetched as you think and could most certainly be done.
i cant see for what do we need a vita version? you want to play 30 minutes while in a bus or what? find a group.. do a raid.. its just not possible.. there is no pause button like for offline games..
there may be a PSO version for the vita.. but i HARDLY doubt thats a megaseller.. games on the vita sell badly and an MMO would sell much more bad, also.
And on the other side PSO is designed completely different. you play small missions (solo or in grp) on instanced "tube maps". it offers much more solo CASUAL AND LINEAR instanced content which you can do "on the hop".. not 30 minute dungeons like in FFXIV.
And at home you have your home console or PC to run it.
FFXIV isnt a game to play it "on the hop" while in subway or bus.. on a bench in a park or where the heck ever... no keyboard functionality, no teamspeak connections.
it just makes NO sense to me.. when you want touchscreen features then a Wii U makes MUCH MORE sense
A Vita version would be just a gimmick to me.. "ah here see i can run a MMorpg on my handheld .. *woo". i say a Wii U version should be much more important than a vita version..
