I never enjoyed blitzball in FFX.

If there were to be an athlectic sport in XIV, i'd rather see it something unique to Eorzea.

I freaking loved Blitzball in FFX. I would play the crap out of it if it was added.

As long as it better done than Huttball in ToR I'll be all over it.

It could be it's own class/job and even, if your ream rages with another, you could settle the differences in the colisseum in pvp match.

I would be all for some kind of game that took your classes abilities and translated them into some sort of sport environment. Something similar to Huttball in SWtoR but more well done then what they ended up with would be a good place to start.

I hate blitzball with a passion! But if they added it, I wouldnt be mad. It'd be good for people that do want it. Like crafting, it'd just be a feature I'd avoid. (Only time I crafted was when my friends held "Mender's Monday's"...and even then it was rare)

If they added card games though I'd participate.

Technically speaking, to add system like Blitzball will require complete new set of UI, game system (using your existing character data), BGM, SE, and other features so it will cost a lot to develop such system BUT say if they can get it as a expansion system for fun which doesn't really affect too much of the main game play of XIV aside from getting trophies (for housing) and small items and stuff. It may take 1-2 years to even develop such system on top of current server.

How many would actually pay for it?

I for one would buy this type of expansion.

Pretty sure the Gold Saucer one YoshiP mentioned will be an expansion but guessing it wont have sport game like blitzball.

Also not sports but you know YoshiP might still be hiding the card game everyones been asking for :cool: so that's one mini-game already + gold saucer, that two lol

No blitzball. When I think blitzball I think Tidus. And I hate Tidus. lol

But in all seriousness, this thread has been done before, but I think a Sports minigame would be pretty cool. Depending on which of the city-states it is, the respective leader of its Grand Company could participate in the opening ceremony, or if its in Ul'Dah, maybe even a speech from the King Sultan guy himself!

what exactly is this gold saucer i keep hearing about?. I saw when yoshi mentioned it but all he said was that they were putting in new mini games like the gold saucer, never actually said what it was.

I thought in a live letter or translation Yoshida called it a casino XD. But yeah that's a better word specially for how it looks and that they really had rides.. lol But there was a casino in there so technically.... :D hehe

Back onto blitz ball - what kind of rewards could you get from it? Money? I know someone in the weapon thread suggested the balls as weapons like wakka.

I'd consider the coliseum to be a sport, If they let us watch the matches between players.

I'm fairly sure its been mentioned that betting on fights will be a feature of the Colosseum as a spectator in the audience. I'm 99% sure I'm not just imagining this. I think it might have been in one of the live letters. Something to look forward to, I love that idea.

So FC decorations, perhaps personal ones too? Like the FC vs FC idea didnt even consider that. Just figured people would make teams.

Whatever city holds the sphere could also have the winning teams insignia blazed on flags and giant drapes through the city - that could be cool make it so the NPC themselves are sport fans~

Exactly how it will be is unkown but Yoshida has explicitly told everyone that he wants to have swimming and sea content and he wants flying and sky content. Whether that is 2d swimming like FFX or 3d like .. 3d swimming.. :P or overworld "map" airships or actual in world airships who knows...

Yoshida does.. we dont :P


I figure if Yoshida will have the 3d swimming content developed (or 3d flying) that the blitz ball could easily adapt that code into its own purposes.

I think that is the part of what would make blitz ball awesome (obviously Yoshida would have to prototype test things before going full blast).

(Not that it is anti realistic because blitz ball is a SE sport, but that MMOs are generally afraid of trying to do something as wild as "sport game inside a game" (I said generally :P, I know a few that have). I think it is very realistic because... every culture has sports. But usually we are used to mini games delegated to minimal meaningless things.. dodging 200 bolts of lightning, dodge soldiers on bike, jump rope, other little things.

A card game is a step up from "little mini-game" really want that too.

thats not a bad idea! if they can manage to make it really good and equal to every side then yeah that would be a great sport to put i had a lot of fun in FFX with blitzball so that would be a yes for me :D

what i like about what is going on now in this new FF14 is that a lot of people are giving great advice and things they want to see, im 100% this game is gonna be the best game ever when it comes out i mean look the video they had put this game is making people to want to give advice and make it better so thumbs up up for all of you that are giving great advices :D

I agree ryokyu. The forums in general have an air of optimism these days and everyone pours over every little detail released by Yoshida and the devs. I've never experienced a dev team so great as to keep their community so informed. The live letters that they do really shows how much they care about what they're doing. I think that kind of passion is what creates masterpieces. It's not often that I'm this excited over the prospect of playing a game months from now.

Every idea has supporters and critics so complaining is something that will happen no matter what. In this case I feel like Yoshi knows what he's doing and I support him!

If it were possible to implement blitzball it would be damn incredible considering how much other content you would coincide with it but I think we have more luck for a card game then anything else.

I would love some kind of card game that can be played anywhere at anytime. There's always that moment of waiting for someone in your party, or just having to wait and do nothing for whatever reason so being able to do something fun in the meantime is a very good thing. The latest comment from Yoshi that I know of regarding a card game is basically that he likes the idea but he's waiting to come up with a good one so it doesn't become dead weight in the game. That comment was made during gamescom. Have they already thought of something and are keeping it under wraps for now? I think that's likely.

Would Parley extreme count as a sport?

Good point actually, a simple UI based game initiated within your party would be brilliant.

Well whatever they implement it'll probably have to change frequently, or have some special events at certain periods. Maybe if they put a gard came, there'll be rewards for beating other players giving at the end of the month. Vanity gear or a chance at something rare. If the just introduce any minigame i see people spamming it for the first 2 or 3 months before it becomes a ghostown.

blitzball would be amazing but would be neat if they add it in an expansion that water themed (idea !) like sea expanison but make it more about town/area that is all Waterworld like.

I'm sure if they added it that it would be like that. Because a water expansion is mentioned by Yosida himself. Interesting to introduce a water expansion through including a new sport. Swimming, dungeons, underwater, islands, ocean and boats..
