>.> I hope this means we'll get a judge/legatus class with gunblades =3
Not sure how we can become a empire class/job without being part of the empire. Not if you tell me a empire person came to eorzea and give us weps like what Cid is doing making us airship. I wont mind a gunblade if the storyline behind it make sense if it does not then no thanks.

In FFXII there are two judges who quit the empire. And so they quit their cool armor.
Otherwise it'd be like a nazi soldier who regrets being in the nazi movement, quits, and keeps wearing his uniform. It'd make no sense.
Also Judge/Legatus is a rank. You'd have to start out as soldier and rank up to get your weapon/uniform upgraded.
I doubt SE would put the resources to make a separate plot in which you can choose to aid with the empire and rank up bla bla bla.
Not to mention each Legatus is in command of 6k soldiers if I recall. :P
If Legatus armor were a really rare drop on the other hand... that'd be cool as hell.
Like having each judge have a hard mode fight (nael hard tier of difficulty), and each drops one piece of gear. We already have the earrings... that's one step in. lol
Personally I'd make the drop limited edition. But I see two ways that this could follow.
First Method: Limited editionThis isn't because I'm a hipster, but because otherwise we'd eventually have everyone dressed in judge gear.
- Beat the fight within a period of time set by SE since the fight was released in order to obtain the judge drop.
- If beaten after the period, the drop will have the same stats, but the drop will be changed to a non judge looking piece of equipment.
Second Method: Difficulty
- Make all fights HARDER than nael hard, and make them capped. So raising level caps don't mess with their difficulty.
- Doesn't matter when you beat it, you get the judge drop.
I guess people will prefer the second.
It was mentionned Legion soldiers are more loyal to their commander than to their Emperor.
They only kept fighting with Eorzean alliance thinking Nael was still alive and following his order till the end.
So, I don't think Nael's troops will swear allegiance to a new leader, the 7th Legion may be disbanded entirely.
A community manager also wrote that the japanese version of FFXIV didn't use the word "legatus" or "legion", it's only the result of the english adaptation. I think the german word was different too. It's probably better not to think over the accuracy of the Legatus system.
It was only Nael's legion which was loyal to him. Because he was some sort of spiritual leader.

The system in which each legion is divided is pretty specific...
And if we know 2 legatus, and each has 1 legion, it wouldn't be crazy to say (regardless of the word they are using to refer to them) that its 1 legatus = 1 legion.
And since SE posted there are 14 legions, we are deducing each has one leader. Thus, 14 legatus.
But what about a Judge in itself >.> I mean you could say the same about the Paladins of Uldah... freelance Judge could work o.O/ I mean a Paladin is a gladiator who just happened to take the training of a Paladin which were sworn to the sultanate of Uldah right... give judges the whole Keeping the Laws pure case or something o.O judges who protects the laws of the land or something it could work I'm just saying!~
11-28-2012. CALLED IT!
Yeah, I agree that the First legion will likely be headed by their Emperor (Solus)... so that means there could be at least another eleven Legati (maybe even up to 20 of them exist, who knows).
Plus, the survivors of Nael's VIIth legoin may have likely been absorbed by Gaius' XIVth while the Garleans rejuvinate a new seventh legion back at their capital. That is, if they haven't already done so... which makes me join the concensus that our spiffy Elezen female in white could be their new leader.
Either that, or she may just be a top-ranking aide to Gaius.
I will become the only Lalafell Legatus! D:<
14 eh? 14 for me to hunt down then.
I have a feeling a couple are going to end up dead by hands that aren't ours
It'd be interesting to see a Lalafell and Miqo'te Legatus because they're from the southern small-island chain continent(s). Roegadyn are from the north, we don't know where Elezen came from but clearly Nael was an Elezen with his build, and Hyur are the most numerous race.
Most Garleans are probably Elezen..looking at Nael van Darnus he was said to have been a descendant of an Allagan family. I'd say most of us Loremongers would argue that the Allagans were predominately an Elezen society. It may still be possible for Lalafell and Miqo'te Legatus, after all Eorzea and the southern island chain-continent can't be the only places where Lalafell and Miqo'te settled. But both races have 1 thing in common a branch of the race is more adapted for desert climates and since Islabard is far to the north I'd assume it's a cold northern climate which Dunesfolk Lalafell and Sun Seeker Miqo'te wouldn't be adapted for, but maybe I'm going into it too much lol. I'm sure it's still possible though.

So a male Roegadyn. Another male Elezen. And a female Elezen, seems too tall to be a female Hyur as she's barely shorter than the male Elezen. And interesting note, if Gaius' helm is similar to Ultima Weapon. I noticed the Roegadyn's helm is similar to a Behemoth. The red helm seems awfully familiar but I can't pin point it and the white helm I dunno.
Wrong. It's a male highlander.

Thanks for putting this up... I was actually looking around for a thread that would discuss this guy. I have a feeling he's definitely going to be integral to the ARR story
which legion do u think Zero belongs to? hes a bad ass lol.... he might be a legatus himself
He looks just as creepy as a bug https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaeva
Er, do you mean Nero? Nero's a Tribune and a member of the Frumentarii as referenced above
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frumentarii
He's part of the XIVth Legion and works for Gaius.
