Final Fantasy XIV: This time, we got it right
Final Fantasy XIV Forever
Final Fantasy XIV: Electric Boogaloo
Final Fantasy XIV: The rise of the Salad people
After thinking about it. It would probably be in SE's best interest if the Release of the PS3 version didn't include the first expansion and instead they waited at least 6 months after the first PS3 version ships before even announcing the expansion (while working on it before hand of course.)
This way they get the Re-review of the PS3 version, then yet another when the expansion comes out.
Final Fantasy XIV: Return of the Twelve
Final Fantasy XIV: The Burning of Gridania
The question with this is though that how many chances are people going to give FFXIV? If it turns out that the PS3 launch is another crash and burn, then who's to say that people won't be sick of hearing about it by then?
What worries me is that the higher ups at SE may be thinking that the PS3 release will determine the future of the game, and if it doesn't do enough to wow people, that the game might not go on longer.
I think they have 1 more big release to ether make it or fall into the category of "free to play" which is the MMO graveyard. I really want Square-Enix to go big on this one. They should be releasing some kind of large patch of content or expansion in parallel with the PS3 release. I just want to see a sneak peak you know! fan the rumor mill!!! Get people talking. Build anticipation.
I think after the battle system is updated, which is one of those critical to get correct in order to more forward tasks, they will be able to take a breather look up from the coding console and go "OK should we make some summons?, and whats going on with these chocobos do we ride them, or are they storage or what?"
Chocobo storage... Interesting idea. Perhaps you can rent chocobos and put them in the equivalent of a "Batallia Downs" with a retainer for enhanced vending. Hmm...
I bet the first expansion has female roe/highlander and male miqote.
It really should be reserved for something like that, since if an expansion is coming, the game has most likely been revived at that point, making additions like these possible. Right now, though, it's not the lack of male cats that is pulling this game down, and I'm pretty sure the dev team realizes this.
Work out the kinks of the current system, and when all the mechanics are in place and ready to go, release on PS3 + Expansion. The PS3 players and the people that buy the expansion for PC should also get an in-game item, perhaps getting in a mailbox if they add the mailbox system by then. Instead of having to remake a character. :P
"Final Fantasy XIV: Now with a battle system where you don't have to spam the 1 key!"
If the first expansion comes out before the promised launched content does I won't pay for it. I hope they don't make people pay for things they promised when we bought the game originally. Paying twice for a beta test is just wrong.
