There would be a storage associated with housing - you may also get passive bonuses to your character based on whats going on in housing. (Also getting a home to customize is fun :P)

Most importantly - you can raise Dear Boco (chocobo) in the housing area.

There will be expansions dedicated to housing (Yoshida said), so I expect there will be more reasons.
