I'll wait. No need to go through yet another round of unfinished crap to get the game out sooner to satisfy the fanbase.

i saw this post, and the only thing I could think of is this

do note, I don't mind waiting cause I know I want the game to be the best it could be....
Nobody has the slightest idea when Final Fantasy XV is coming out, either.
That hasn't diminished the anticipation for it one bit. Hell, people are still hyped up for VersusXIII, which may as well be vaporware at this point.
People waited more than a DECADE for Duke Nukem Forever, and people are STILL waiting on Half-Life 3.
I think we can wait a few months.
I just looked at my agenda and it says I'm still going to be alive next summer (well, at least, that's the plan). I don't mind at all waiting until then for the perfect FFXIV:ARR. As it was stated earlier, FFXIV:ARR must be perfect this time.
As for people with short attention span that they'll lose interest by this summer, so be it. They'll get it back as fast as they lost it anyway.
In the mean time, I hope to be chosen to try the beta at the very least and help shape the game to perfection.
I don't quite understand why summer seems like it would be more likely then spring. If the beta starts first week of Feb. What are we talking about in terms of a beta timeframe? 3 months tops? I would bet no later then May. I know they want to get player feedback implemented but I have a hard time imagining the fixes will be on so large a scale that it will take them months and months to get them in.
If somehow the game does release in july, although it's a long wait it wont really matter to us much. I suspect most here will spend years in this game so those extra months waiting at the beginning will be a distant memory. For the ones that ignored 1.0 and have gotten a new interest in the game might lose it if the game takes too long though, but I think April, maybe May will be the release.
Since people who's playing the alpha are saying it could be beta I'm not too worried that the beta will be full of bugs and glitches once they roll it out.
This is going to be one very....very......VERY long wait
I actually know a handful of people, and I'm sure they're not the only ones, who quit well before the servers went down but are looking forward to 2.0 and plan to return when it launches. Their wait is longer than 5 months and yet they are still intently looking forward to 2.0's release and are guaranteed to at least give it a shot.
I will wait and come back, but i do wish they had let us keep playing 1.0 longer. Just hoping to get into the alpha testing for entertainment in the mean time.
Hello Yuri, how are you:) And yes they are going to lose people with that long of a wait... I still don't understand why they had to take all the servers down, people still could have played during the beta test, you can do the beta testing on the new seperate severs that they made...
this is the one issue im scratching my head at myself, if they are really 8 weeks behind schedule why are they taking 1.0 down now, I know they probably lose money on it every month, but they've kept it on for 2+ years most of which not receiving any revenue so that doesnt seem to be the reason for the take down. The only thing I can think of is that they are planning on getting a lot of people into alpha in a few weeks and then allowing us to use our characters in beta and have the data save. Because think about it, if the beta WASNT going to save data into release, why would it be such a priority for them to shut down 1.0 and get our character data transferred over asap. If it didnt matter we could have beta chars for the weeks it took to transfer our character.
Its not all adding up here
This is very likely a data scrubbing issue. They are going to have ALOT of data to sort through and run ETL process on in order to translate it to the new database structure. With all the talk of how different the game is, it is very likely that much of the previous databases were scrapped entirely. They are going to have to have time to translate the data over, then test it to make sure there isnt any issues.
They also told people you would be able to change race, so if you have any of the race specific starting gear on, there would have to be triggers written to go though and change the equipment you have equipped if you choose to change. This has to be done on the fly because they don't know who you will change to in the end.
Lastly, there is data wherehousing to talk about. They are going to want to have a standard set of initial parameters to work from and the more people keep using it, the longer they have to wait to have a final data-set. If they pic a date and work with it, then if something goes wrong, they will always have that specific copy.
I would have thought you would need to freeze accoungs 2-3 months out bare minimum if you want to go through this process with the tiny team they have at SE.
Theres no doubt about that, but it was planned for in the initial roadmap and they had said it could take up to a month to accomplish. For arguments sake lets say it takes twice that. That would put character data being transferred by no later than when the beta is slated to be released.
Now, if you were SE and you weren't going to allow the data recorded in the ARR beta to carry over into release, you wouldn't be worried about having the character data ready in time, in fact they would likely give us beta characters to work with similar to the alpha. I think this is what is going on here though it hasn't been confirmed, it seems the only logical explanation as to why they had to take servers down now and are rushing to transfer data in time for when beta starts. We may very well be looking at more of an "exclusive early release" rather than a beta in late jan / early feb though they will call it a beta for sure, and a few things may not be in the game until the "official" release
What you're "just saying", is actually "just nonsense", considering that everyone that ever played the game will receive at least a free month at release without needing to buy the game again.
If you think any sizable percentage of the userbase will miss the chance to try a new AAA MMORPG for free just because they had to wait a couple months longer, you're absolutely delusional.
You would be making any sense if previous subscribers were required to pay anything to play the game at its launch, but since there's absolutely no entry barrier for past subscribers, arguing that any sizable number of people will just refuse to use their free time is as ludicrous as it gets.
I suggest the use of logic before opening a thread, next time. Flying in the face of realism on a whim is never a good idea.
As an aside... I personally would rather it take longer... they have more time to put something in to the marketing... and it comes out right than it comes out sooner. I can use the extra time to get back to the gym and loose some of this MMOMGIMFAT
Oh the idea of the game having a release beyond Feb is all speculation at this point. If you look at the original PDF, they had the release date to be January 2013... so even at 8 weeks it is still possible to be end of Feb early March. We really don't know WHERE they are on it.
An important thing to note prior to the january 2013 release on the original roadmap, from nov-january they list PS3 closed beta and PC free trial. This is another reason leading me to believe people who have been playing all this time will get early access to the game prior to release. So "release" can come in march, but we may have our hands on it before that
I find it kind of silly people complain about ARR's release. "Oh no, a possible Summer release? How terrible!" Regardless of the time it comes out, people will play it. Will most people find something else to do in the mean time? Yep. And there's nothing wrong with that! Trust me. I highly doubt that those of us who will play another game til then will lose interest in this one.
Those who don't play it when it comes out, most likely never had interest in the game to begin with. And personally, everyone I know that played/want to play this game, are already playing something else, or looking for something else to play, but will come back once it launches.
So in the end, no I don't think extending the game's release for 5 months would be bad. Let them fix what they need to. PLEASE. DON'T. RUSH. THEM. (Not like they'll listen anyway, Yoshi-P keeps saying over and over that they'll release the game once its ready.) The only way that them taking too long could result in a negative way, is if they take sooo long, that the battle system becomes outdated, and I highly doubt they'll take that long.
I'm anticipating the beta more than the actual release. Not because I know it's a mechanism to allow me to play sooner, but rather so I can help make the game the best it can possibly be.
So many "debates" on whether people will come back to play the game if it takes longer than Feb/March release; it shows passion for this game, which is great. But the more important question is: "Will you be back". From the sample size of people in this forum, who clearly are people who stayed in the game till the end, the answer is an overwhelmingly "yes". That's good enough for now.
Also, I guess the people complaining never play Blizzard, Rock Star, Valve, etc. games.
it's a long time but the game has been in the limbo for years already. no other mmo out right now it worth more then a quick play threw if anything. and i don't think there is really any others that are in the works that people are anticipating outside of maybe skirim online? but i'll wait, probably play any mmo's that come out while waiting and punch threw offliners and shooters. but for sure i'm waiting anxiously and rather they get it right and take there time this time around.
When FFXIV comes back, We will all get a min of 30 days Free to play...
SE is betting on almost everyone whoever played FFXIV 1.x to come back and try there free to play 30 day FFXIV: ARR
As far as I'm concerned, ANY amount of waiting is too long for me xD but I am more than willing to wait a few more months now if it means a better game through the years.
The wait time is certainly long though, and SE will need to market it carefully with a constant stream of information/game media to keep us hyped up, especially for the media/non current FFXIV players. They've been doing a pretty good job imo but with 1.0 now down, they'll need to amp it up a little for all those with ver 1 withdrawal symptoms.
I remember reading something about us being able to use our characters in beta. What if the beta is also meant to be a sort of early access for former subscribers with new accounts being available after beta?
I know it's not likely, but one can dream.
<-- This guy's fears,
In my case personally the way we do things in the ls is kinda keep it super small and well...
We can't find people that will suit our LS easily cause everyones a shell hopper who has 78 shells to do stuff with and who wont be there when you need him, thus i dun like him to do stuff with me thus i dun have many players i play with. we a super small family. (also i'm a rude evil asshole that uses excuses when he screws up his job)
Now with that said i can't afford to lose a single person cause loosing one guy is a major step back.
We where like 20 people before server merged last time and we ended up with like 7 when servers came back up.
I just don't wanna relive that thing cause it was terrible...
That's just my personal thing and my view on this thing.
I aint worried about it all that much though. aslong as my core base of players (5 peoples) are back i'm good. Theres always more rude thugs who won't be all like "how dare you speak to me like that!" if u call them a fairy.. I will find them and recruit them in ARR I guess.
I do wish for them to take as long as they need on 2.0 just to prevent the problematic launch that 1.0 had.
The one thing that bothers me is the fact that they are indeed behind schedule. In my opinion there's just a single issue with this, that the final save was possibly premature in timing. In turn we could have perhaps been playing the game a tad longer. Although I am aware if they had prolonged the final save then there would be issues with the final event and their initial schedule. I realize that none of us truly know exactly how long it takes to convert the player data. Yet given their previous projections it would have been a month or two. All the same since the schedule is off I can't help but feel that I would have enjoyed however much more play time before the final save was made. QQ
Even though it might be 5 months, I say let them take as long as needed. I don't want another 1.0 fiasco. Yes, its a long break but its better to have a complete game than a rushed game.
