I dunno, I think I missed the memo about Tarutarus and Lalafels, why should we have the child-looking characters as heros again?
There is a reason I prefer James Bond over SpyKids
:P
Because lalafell are not real people and therefor it is ok to do bad things to them. I also believe that those who play lalafell are often either young children or pedophiles. If i were a law enforcement officer, i would investigate all players who have lalafell characters.
PLEASE NOTE THE USE OF HYPERBOLE AS AN ALLITERATIVE DEVICE. I have to notate my posts now because people keep reporting me for obvious sarcasm and satire.
they shoiuld make Miiqo'te Hero instead.... :|
Can't wait for the thread "Why SE gives no love to Monk and Dragoon in the End of an Era?"
You've just got inceptioned.
This thread is sort of funny to me, for a couple of reasons:
First off, Square-Enix created the Taru and Lalafel races. They can do whatever they want with them, which happens to be the mage race. Furthermore, there is not a serious bone in the body of their design, they are meant to be cute (Let's be honest here). Because you think they can be bad ass doesn't mean the rest of the world is going to take it serious when they go on some sort of killing rampage. I find the Hyur depicted in the cut scene FAR from "meh". It's much more impacting when someone who actually fills out the armor they're wearing does very actuated motions due to their physical form and it's much more compelling to watch. Can you say the same about Lalafel?
Second, why are people even complaining about this as if it's some sort of equal rights movement? You're playing a race they designed lore wise to fit the stereotype that you are fighting against. It's not like you guys were born Taru in real life and they're depicting you like a racist stereotype. Of course, there will ALWAYS be exceptions, as stereotypes are only a generalization.

That's right. Robel-Akbel was no joke. The man jumps up in the air & does a crazy Rasengan looking spell at one point during the Windhurst WotG storyline lol. Serious Business.
Shanttoto was cool and all... But if you want a total bad ass, no nonsense Taru/Lala, look no further than the Warlock Warlord here.
Because the average gamer doesn't relate with a tiny child. If they wanted to promote to children, that would be one way to do it. The "business" average gamer is male and 20-30. It's why most games have the hero a male 20-30. I don't necessarily agree with it, but here I am a 25 year old male gamer, so eh.
One of my favorite characters in Final Fantasy XIV happens to be a Lalafell. They don't have to be the center of a battle cutscene to be incredible.

You never see one of us as the hero because well... we're to short you wouldn't see us. That and there would just be a mass of larger foes falling for no apparent reason until suddenly there is just a small figure barely visible above a field of fallen enemies.
In a way that would be all the more appropriate, because when Lalafell were originally introduced - along with Miqo'te - we were told that their roles were being inverted as of FF XI, with Lalafell intended to work as the dexterous rogue archetype and Miqo'te being by default more the 'magical catgirl'. It's something their base stats support, too, insofar as base stats differ in FF XIV.
Still, not a biggie I guess; there's something nice about playing a character from the race nobody expects anything from. 'S all the better when we pull stuff off.
HAH you beat me to it. Robel-Akbel was the ultimate hero of Windurst twice over! he did it as 2 different people and can AOE burst. Backstory(spoilers): http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Robel-Akbel
They explained that! It was supposed to be the warp taru in Al Zahbi but he kept teleporting the Serpent Generals miles out of range...
and GOD YES. No spoilers, but Him in wotg was like, one of the five times FFXI's made me cry. Total hero.
Other than that though, what about the two miner Lalafell in Ul'dah? They completely destroy the two humes about to beat on the Elezen THM.
The Hobbit comes out in a little while. Go get your kicks from midgets there.
Bigger character = bigger canvas to display fancy skills and armours. A tiny Lala blcking that blade with his micro axe wouldn't be as impressive as the Hyur
Is it just me, or does someone need to use FFXIV 2.0 to create a version of Lord of the Rings starring Tarufells...?!
Well, for anyone with the feeling that Elezen aren't acknowledged enough, they are probably going to have a large part to play considering Ishgard will undoubtedly be a huge power in dealing with Bahamut.
Roeg's need a bit of room to shine themselves, but while not a male, Merylwyb is one.
I'm trying to think of a position of importance that a lalafell could hold in 14, but I can't really see one..
How can you expect lalafells to save the day when they can't even defeat the height requirements for a theme park ride? :)
Hard to be a main hero when a villain can kick a field goal with you.
There really is a simple reason for this.
When people see a Lalafel they think, "Oh that's cute!"
When people see a human they think, "Hey, I'm a human. I could do that too!"
I'd like to see some lalafells as non-mages. I can't help but be a little biased in that I'm a lalafell front-liner, and this is never represented. I mean, even if it's as a ninja or thief or something in the future, it'd be nice to see lalafells represented as something over than a white or black mage.
Not everyone can be the main actor. Do remember that the lead actor is nothing without the supporting actors. The heroes in the final CS was supposed to be you with your friends. Represent that how you want, but it's a stand of unity. All races have someone that stands out. For Limsa, it's the admiral and the kitty girl, Ul'dah has the Highlander and the bard, Gridania has a taru, hume, and Louis.
Ever race is represented in the lore.
I want a new Robel Akbel in FF14 he was the pimpest Taru in FF11 ..yes even more than Shanttoto
Tarutaru/lalafell actually are the true heroes of the game, as seen here:

I don't think lalafel should be the *main* hero, but having one as a more prominent good or bad guy or would be awesome. And of course i think they should also be Melee. Evil or good, doesn't matter.
i'd just like some lalafel that i'll see often in the story that can shoot, slash, poke or punch someone to death.
the movie was fine, as it was basically the same adventurers from the first Opening video, just all lv 50 jobs, which lacked both DRGs and MNKs.
Well in my experiences unlike taru in ff11 lalafell don't have much of a distinc personality other then being either goofy or serious about fishing.
Wasn't there also that evil flying taru with a scythe as one of the crystal warriors in XI? 0_o
Sorry if someone else mentioned didn't read all of the posts.
Honestly, I think the only reason that Taru's/Lala's are never the main protagonists is because every other character would be outside the camera's view.
Example: If a lalafell was the protagonist in the end of an era trailer, we would only see said lalafell and everbody's lower legs with the occasional corpse :p
You named most the roles they fit best though. I can't take a short Lalafell warrior seriously if I saw it on that battlefield, but if I saw one as a black mage (or any job related to magic that isn't white mage) I'd crap my pants. And short people are funny in general, natures comical relief. To me, these are their lead roles in their own way. :)
