I think Nael Van Darnus using megaflare was a huge clue. It is surely Bahamut. Also considering one of their goals is fan service it makes sense to use the more familiar and well known Bahamut.
Maybe we got sent to the future, so that we could use the echo and retrospectively resolve it? Kind of a time-loop paradox.
Midgardsormr is the dead dragon in Mor Dhona.
Or he was, anyhow.
Pretty sure that what was left of Mor Dhona is now a barren wasteland.
So basically the same, only on fire.
The problem was louisoix moved and interrupted his own cast.
But seriously, I imagine Louisoix was trying to get the 12 to imprison Bahamut, however the prison wasn't strong enough, not the 12 themselves
Dravnians worship Bahamut. Bahamut is sealed years ago by Allgans. The "Twelve" are used to seal Bahamut. Nidhogg is sleeping in western Coerthas and threatens Ishgard. Question now remains, what does Bahamut do now? Cities are rebuilt in 2.0, maybe Bahamut is resting after such an attack? Possibly 2 dragon antagonists in 2.0. AW YEAH
Its bahamut. Has almost same design as FFXI.

It looks like Bahamut because it is Bahamut. You tell me if someone sealed you in a ball and launched you into space for an untold amount of time you wouldn't come out and shit on each and everyone you saw in a giant tantrum of primal fury. I know I would especially after they tried to do it again!
Bahamut
Dalamud hmmm... it just me or are those names alot alike...
It is more than likely Bahamut, but I still think there is a possibility that it is Ragnarok. ^^ It would suit the end of the world theme.
Goes to show how lacking the story in 1.0 was. People do not know Midgardsormr is the Guardian of the Lake (Silvertear lake in Mor Dhona) and appeared/was summoned to do battle with the Garleans as they made their way to Mor Dhona. Nael van Darnus was given power by Bahamut (like the Dragoon Storyline major Wyrms seem to be able to take control over people) in the form of Van Darnus using Megaflare on us which everyone knows is Bahamut's classic attack. Tiamat, Nidhogg, Bahamut, and the dragon from the limit break video await us in 2.0.
Looks Like Bahamut Picked up a few tricks from his last ass whooping.

Im calling it now Ishguard houses Alexander
As others have said, it seems that Bahamut was put in a "temporary prison" that was meant to hold him as the 12 were summoned. Before the summoning could complete, however, Bahamut broke out of that prison and scuttled the whole thing.
I don't think it's that the 12 weren't able to hold Bahamut, but rather that they never got the chance to do their thing.
^ This very much so. If you recall when you're spamming through the primals, Louisoux mentions that it's troublesome how the aetheric energy ganked by the primals hadn't been getting absorbed back into the earth upon defeat... Bahamut was drinking that stuff in. So I blame all you people who HAD to get all seven of your totemic weapons! (j/k)
Lets not forget Atomos sucking Eorzea dry like a packet of Capri Sun. The 12 need that aether just as much as Bahamut did and it was not enough remaining to reseal him so he just mega-flared everyone's faces off for trying.
Perhaps, after using megaflare (which he is clearly charging at the end -- you can see it right after Louisoix's staff breaks), Bahamut is exhausted enough so that he can be once again imprisoned in the giant red moon known as Dalamud. This is just my personal opinion, but Dalamud looks very 'egg-like' when it breaks open. The edges of it are also spiny (what was that blade that fell to the ground about?). It seems as though it is a shell that bursts open, revealing Bahamut. They try to recreate this, but fail. If Louisoix and the others are mere mortal incarnations of the deities, then the deities themselves can still act even if their mortal selves are gone... perhaps they will be even more powerful... Or, as I said above, perhaps Bahamut will be so exhausted after Megaflare that he can once again be imprisoned. It may have even been Megaflare that prevented the prison spell/ritual from completing in the first place.
yoshi-p said bahamut you lose
It's obviously Bahamut...
And I feel like a dumbass for not seeing it coming. It explains why Darnus was able to use Megaflare. I figured he was working for a God of some sort, but I had imagined it'd be Odin - but that'd be a repeat of ToAU in a sense.
It's not like he beat the gods in a straight fight... he beat their binding spell per say.. so it's not like its that far fetched.
Well now that i think about it in ff4 i think? Bahamut is called the God of Eidolons?
yeah its right here if you scroll down to ff4

LOL it even says he lives on the red moon.......
The seal failed you can think of lack of prayers...
not many ppl believed in Twelves in our days.
A thought, maybe the Twelves can't act by themselves and need a being to use the power they grant. That being here is Louisoix who isn't strong enough at this particular time to seal Bahamut.
Yup they tried to put him in the same confinement as they did those many decades ago. But he was just too strong and wasn't gonna fall fate to that prison again. I can imagine how cramped he must have felt being locked up in that ball in space for all that time. I would be angry too.
Seems Bahamut was sucking up all that energy like a newly charged battery. He had at least Garuda and Ifrit essence absorb, plus Ravens and with his own. Probably sucking up aether energy from the planet as well as his prison got closer the the planet. So ya he was fully charged and ready to release all that stored up anger and energy back on his enemies/planet.
2.0 is gonna be hot.... I just want my Job to come out so I can really enjoy this game. Jobs now aren't doing it for me not even summoner.
If people took the time to talk to the historian who runs the monk quests they'd know this and a helluva lot more about Eorzea's history, like why the grand companies first united, and about the fallen city-state of Ala Mhigo.
He's probably the single most informative npc in the game.
At first I was expecting a Meteor thing to go down (like black materia), but then as soon as I saw it break open with Bahamut, I should of known this entire time.
"Yo Dawg so i heard you like mega flare, so I put a mega flare in my mega flare, so I can destroy a realm while I destroy a realm"
(honestly this was probably Giga flare or Tera Flare)
