Then set the max so it cannot be "too large". Having sliders != having higher max...
It's like being able to pick between 0 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 or [0].........|..........[4] in 0.2 increments or something.

People have requested more hairstyles from the get-go. 6 hairstyles in an MMO (for one race, this one being the most popular) is not going to cut it.
I like individuaility, and only having 6 to choose from is sad to say the least. Where are longer hairstyles? Why don't races share some of the same hairstyles? Come on SE, give us more to choose from.
I would honestly say the starting number of hairstyles is ok. They could add maybe 2-4 more for hen the game is released at the start of character creation. However there are multiple ways in which people could "earn" new hairstyles to customize their characters through say a haircut lol. Some new hairstyles could be unlocked through achievements, dungeons, mini-games, grand company ranks, etc. I think it would be wiser to limit the amount of customization at the start since when one has to much to start with it can be overwhelming to get what you may want, however if stuff is slowly added later on with the option to earn/customize your character with at the cost of gil, then players can slowly become more and more diverse with different hair styles and maybe even new options for hair color and such.
I have to say: if you like individuality, don't play a Miqo'te. :P And for the record, if you went through the Lalafell character creator, you'd look at the Miqo'te one and go "Hey, no fair, why do they get so many hairstyles??"
This is only the Alpha version, they likely will release more hairstyles in Beta, and for sure with ARR release.
Don't play MMOs at all if you like Individuality, because it's guaranteed someone will pick the same hairstyle, color and facial features as you because that's just how probability works.
Even in PSO2 which is Japan's most customizable MMO so far you still run into duplicates in some fashion.
I don't see why this topic is a problem.
It's common knowledge that as a society there is a demographic that likes to take pride in how they look and dress.
Why would this not translate to an MMO?
I honestly doubt that anybody here who is protesting against the concept of more options to personal a character go out in the morning wearing their pajamas.
I can't speak on behalf of everybody but I believe individuality to be a half-answer. It's all about customisation and making a character how you want them to be!
Again, we're not asking for FFXIV to be a dress-up game but for it to at the very least be up to date with current standards, MMO or not.
Well..in Aion I managed to make a character that I never saw anyone resemble even in the least lol. In FFXIV so far though there seems to be so little diversity in the character creation I see a lot of people that look the same....yet oddly enough I have not seen anyone that looks like my character lol.
early phase 1 alpha isn't even officially out for an hour and we already have people complaining about things. and considering devs have already said they're adding more stuff as the game goes along (and that this is primarily JUST A SERVER STRESS TEST), this kind of thread is pointless *until* we see what they add. if it doesn't feel like enough *after* they add more, okay, say something. but this soon? it's pointless knee-jerk reaction flailing and people do it for every god damned thing.
it starts to look less and less like constructive criticism and helpful suggestions, and more like a little kid unwrapping presents at christmas and getting all mad when the FIRST AND ONLY GIFT they've unwrapped so far is socks, and they start telling you they want rainbows and ponies that fart glitter and puke bunnies made of cotton candy and smell like strawberries made of magic... while 26 more presents just sit there under the tree waiting to be opened.
awesome community. never gets old.
Well seeing you wanna start. Read between the lines, the fact is this is just another way to cater to 1 group shall we say, and I am against it. You people bitch and bitch just to make this game your way and caters to what you want, and screw other player types. My opinion still stands as long as the devs cater to who they are catering to. This thread is yet another example of players asking, demanding or bitching about what they want, than of course after they get it it still wont be enough and they leave.
I think for now they just said they were going to even out the number of avaiable hairstyles (As in give Lalafells more than 3 crummy options), so there's the same variety to every race, but that they'll add more hair later.
Well that's a glass half empty way to look at it.
They are working on progressing towards beta and they are definitely looking for things to focus on improving. If the most people say 'more hairstyles' then they can focus on improving what more people will be happy with. In some cases they probably have their own agenda but feedback is definitely good.
Ok so you're upset with the way feedback is being given but please don't say 'feedback is pointless'.
Biggest disappointment? Boobs aren't big enough and I didn't see enough hairstyle choices but other then that looks good.
Even with ARR, the lack of variety in hairstyles is one of the obstacles preventing the game from being able to pull itself out of the pit of failings it remains in.
i never said that. reread my post.
meanwhile:
this only goes to underscore everything i just said. more gross overreaction to an EARLY ALPHA SERVER STRESS TEST. oh my god look only 6 boring hairstyles in ALL OF ARR, what idiots! how can they fix the game if they can't even get this right ever in the history of ever because what we see today is obviously what we can expect 6 months from now so the game will never crawl out of its pit of fail and reeeeeeeeeer~~~~
they said first couple phases will be barebones tests. they said they're adding more stuff, including hair styles and other customization features.
"okay so let's just add the bare minimum to get a feel for things and test the servers"
BUT UGH UGH I NEED TRIPLE Z BREASTS AND 7000 HAIR STYLES TO DO THAT *flail*
the character creation isn't the disappointment. it's the people who post here.
the problem with those types of Character Creators is that they often fallout of the Quality threshold, i too have a truly unique character but i often find it hard to play when every thing i wear is Cliptasticle. so your either stuck with basic models and just modify the face or you suffer through Glitch's to make something truly unique.
I was disappointed that they were no more hairstyles as well, this has been something we have asked for since launch. maybe even before. And they did say they were working on more at one point so I'd love to see something to reassure us this is coming.
For me there's actually very little point in re-creating my character IF there are not more hairstyles to choose from. :)
omg they didn't add options for more hair
game will fail
..................
seriously stop complaining and take a break from the forum
Or maybe you should. Your attitude is often a sign of someone who's been spending too much time on the forums and develops this "omgee not THIS thread" blase reactions. Which accomplishes nothing and is just annoying to read over. I've made these posts myself once upon a time, they are not very meaningful.
Posting what you will like to see showcased or express disappointment in what has been though, actually is.
I would like to know how ppl asking for long poofed hair styles intend to stuff all that hair inside an elmo helm xD
well look at my post count its less than half of yours, speaks allot that i dont often post on the forums.
also like i said in OP, i know its a work in progress, its an Alpha, its a server load test, but it'd would be great if SE could look into this further down the road.
Thankfully there has been allot of great feedback from people about how more options may be implemented after server load tests and such, and thats great. Really this is just something which although not game breaking or deal breaking not to have, i'd be great if there was more and it's nice to hear other peoples feedback from those who were also looking forward to something similar.
Also, people keep using the word "dissapointed" yeah, i was dissapointed at 1.0 launch and with this new alpha view on the char creation but i still like the game, i'm a little dissapointed but there is a questionmark in the title of the thread because i wanted to see if anyone else felt the same.
If anything might be holding back building in mass-hairstyles to see if the in-game barber when(If) implemented would be a popular system and ripe for monitization.
Yeah those too. Lawlz. How many ways can people waste their time I swear.
It's good to let the devs know we want hairstyles, without threads like gender equality (male miq's, female roes, ect..) we might not even have had them added in.
Let's think a little, this is a forum made for the purpose of feedback and conversation, shutting down people's opinions because they annoy you goes against this function.
I only read and posts on threads that interest me, the rest I have no time for. <<< This is a good idea. *thumbs up*
Anyway, I'd like to see new hair, I've been waiting two years.... Well we all have but this is one of the things I've wanted since forever. \o
Also we know full well it's a work in progress, but I will never ever forget that this is the excuse we used in beta for the original launch, and honestly that better not happen again, in any game, ever. For my part that was a lesson well earned.
I'm disappointed they didn't have a Lalafel option in the character creator. Also, since Lalafel was a popular race in the original game, they really should have considered adding more options that are similar to Lalafel such as halflings, dwarves, munchkins, and gnomes. I also want an afro for my Lala.
I'm being sarcastic about this stuff. Although greater customization would be nice, the line needs to be drawn somewhere or they wind up spending their entire budget on making a game which is nothing more than a glorified character creator. Plus it hardly matters how many options you give, some looks will still be more common than others because it's just a more widely accepted standard of beauty. Give people the choice of looking like 1 of 500 different morbidly obese characters or 1 character who looks like a super model, and which character model do you think people will choose?
If you truly want there to be more diversity in how people look, treat it like real life and give us a randomly generated character whom we can only make minor cosmetic changes to.
I hope this time my elvaan blue skin shows as it should be in game
I like it, looking good^^
SE does not deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to expecting more in release/beta. In 1.0 beta compared to release. There was hardly any difference between the two even though the forum was flooded with complaints. Now is the time to complain about stuff that is lacking. I doubt if we complain in beta they will add more before release.
Unless you think its reasonable for people to wait for months /years before they add a barber npc so they get extra hairstyle they wanted?
Lalafell only have 4 hairstyles in 1.0 they better have more in 2.0 beta/release.
Fanbois forgotten or choose to forget about 1.0 beta>release already?
Beta will most likely just be for bug killing/slight improvements. I have no doubt if we see no extra hairstyles in beta there will no extra hairstyles on release.
Albeit it might be too soon to ask for more hairstyles we don't even know if they are actually prepared, it's true that more options, even the chance to be able to change yours through a barber or something like that, were said to be able from the release of the game in 2010.
It's high time to see at least a few more options even if no one would modify their chars, because now more people will come and we will be able to have more alts for free.
In fact, there were hairstyles prepared that didn't make the final cut (or I think so), as I've seen images of some of them based on the missing Final Fantasy XI hairstyles like the "onion-hair" male lalafel or long hair female lalafel.
Don't worry! The game includes head wear. So even if you don't like your hair style you can hide it.
Because that's the way it is around here.
Person A: "I noticed something about "x" that I'm not really crazy about and would like to make a suggestion that might improve it."
Person B: "I don't agree with you. I don't care at all about "x" and don't want the developers wasting their time on it. They should be spending time working on the things that are important to me. So stop posting suggestions I don't agree with and shut up".
That pretty much sums up over half the threads in this forum.
Is it any wonder even the most neutral topic rarely survives the first page?
I do believe that SE had noted in the past that there would be more hair options in ARR, though I don't recall when they said they'd be available (at release, or implemented later). Either way, there's going to be a stylist/barber type NPC implemented as well, so people will have the opportunity to change their hairstyle during gameplay. No one is going to be "stuck" with what they chose at character creation.
I was dissapointed with the char creation video yeah. Mostly because of the bust slider the max size was at best the same as mithra in ff11 by default, good for loli cat fans maybe.
My 2nd complaint is colors. For example, the hair colors like 2 colors are vibrant and the rest are dull. I like the change on the mi'quote eyes though.
