Um, duh? 1.0 is ending. I wouldnt be surprised if 80% of the population is 'afk till 2.0'.
I'm surprised everyone is pulling the 'friends' card. I for one can't wait to make new friends in a new setting. 1.0 felt too much like everyone was the same.

I can't wait for it!
If a friend I met in a online game is worth having I make sure I keep in touch with this friend outside the game, other than that I play a video game to have fun.
I'm not very good at getting my views across lol, I know 1.0 is ending lol. I'm talking over a long period like 6 months ago, I've lost like 20-30 very good friends, half of them from XI who were pumped for SE 2nd MMO. That is tough to swallow when they still have no desire to come back for ARR, I still have hope when its out though! :D
I know people come and go eventually but its just been so up and down when its every month after the announcement of ARR and it gets frustrating lol, I should have taken that break 6 months ago as 1.0 was always a placeholder for whats to come.
To be fair, the game doesn't offer much after you have done the primals and the story and logging on to chat might just not be an option for them. I'm sure most of the people who lost interest in 1.0 will at least check out ARR since they actually bought and played 1.0 because they were interested in the first place.
Saying that I think a lot of my feelings come from jumping server on the merge to Ragnarok for a better EU player base, but unfortunately that was a terrible decision as I was originally on Lindblum within a GREAT community (Save Point / Onions / HCC.) :D It was like I had logged into the game for the first time again aside from experience and levels gained.
Yeah I understand what you are saying, I do keep in touch with a few of them outside the game, but still I met these people in the game, this is what I love to do in my spare time and I miss playing something with people that have the same interests! :P None of my family/friends/work colleagues game so yeah its sad! xD
Linblum is now Sargatanas after the merge, I was on Linblum before but Sargatanas is pretty bad for EU players so if you're EU and most of your friends left I don't think it would have made much difference if you stayed. I remember Lindblum having plenty of people but as many have left waiting for ARR I think the population in most servers have dropped. I checked some items in the ward yesterday and was surprised by how many 0 and single digits I saw next to the items.
Understand completely. :)
I'm sceptical. I've only seen new flashy graphics, one extra class, a quest system that WoW had 8 years ago and not even a level cap raise. Yeah they took the time to remake a lot of things, but did they really listen to their playerbase? Will it really be more than just one 1.0 graphic replaced by a flashy 2.0 graphic? Has there really been an effort made to make the game more playable? Will it have more content? I do not know, because they haven't shown any proof of that besides some flashy graphics.
I agree Kuma, SE have been playing catch up for a couple of years and need to be extremely careful right now. The disasters in Japan didn't help at all for that matter.
We won't see this games full potential until imo.
1. ARR is released and it gets a decent amount of subscribers and positive reviews.
2. Their first expansion.
Then SE can relax a little and truly open their minds and get shiii done, I'm sure they are working very hard.
I just don't know when all the moaning and bashing will stop to a certain degree, I hope ARR comes out with a bang yo.
I can't wait for 2.0. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
I'm psyched. Couldnt care less about lack of proper advertising. Up to now stuff they released all points toward fulfilled promises.
I am looking forward to it but I am extremely worried about it as well. A lot of good things, alot of things which have failed for countless mmos before.
Even if this game is great in ARR if there is not enough interest to get a solid player based to last another 5-6yrs at least I will probally have to go else where. No reason to invest time into a game which will die... the regional divide is going to make this much worse.. SE going to need 150-300k NA players alone to make the game not look dead in the region, I highly doubt that will happen.
Whether or I not I continue completely depends on the playerbase honestly... which is not good.
SE has alot of work ahead of them, honestly I do not think they know how the majority of NA gamers see SE and the FF franchise as a joke now. They are no longer viewed as the flagship of the RPG series. SE needs to drop 10s of millions into advertising, I do not see it happening at all.
been awhile since i been on forum... i see the personal crying opinions are still in play, but more aggressiveness as we get closer to server down. Keep it up everyone...
anyone who has completed Rivenroad (Hard) should be sufficiently impressed with what a barebones dev crew has been able to produce on an overly restrictive timeframe using a broken client and woefully inefficient engine and coding architecture.
if they can show the same level of execution in ARR, it should be very promising. and that's not even addressing how great the concept art looks.
if people want more flash and bang in-game, they likely don't seem to realize just how few people are working on producing content for a dead client. have some perspective.
if people want more info about ARR, they're spoiled. you're still a good 4-6 months away from launch. if you need OMGZ SO MANY INFOS to stay interested in the game, you may have ADHD and should probably get another hobby or three. come back when more info is available. in the meantime, you won't be missed.
flail harder, friends. this forum definitely needs two dozen more of this exact thread. yyyyyep. definitely what it needs.
when will you ever get tired of repeating yourselves? and why? for attention?
right? i've played a lot of MMOs and i've never seen as many entitled crybabies as i have in these forums. makes me sick.
ah really? i would not have played 1.0. anymore if i have known that the game will remain the same (maps etc.) which are really horrible in 1.0.
i dont understand you people are you on crack or something? as if 1.0. (the recent version) is the most exciting game you have ever played.. this version is not updateable to a quality which would me get excited to play it..
its not possible.. it needs a new game. which 2.0. will be.
hopefully 2.0. will smash you flamers into your faces. i cant read that shit anymore.
but of course, the ones who "enjoy" the current version are still here, while the last 80% of players already left, because its a boring, old fashioned and flat game.
its very idiotic what is going on here the last weeks.
so i am ;)
bye bye version 1.0.
But well there is one good thing... people dont seem to be hyped that much anymore about ARR (although they saw just basics and one starter area, nothing more)
sooo maybe people will be surprised at its release.
you are just SO RIGHT!
most of them seem to be oldschool FFXI veterans "oooh i want to have my grind game back .... i want to have old fashioned unfluent gameplay.. hours of fighting..." etc *flame flame*
so retarded.
I could care less about the info, the fact that they said they will be releasing a lot of info, is what I care about. Also, I'm more excited about EQnext, and that just got announced.
You should go over to their forums then, instead of here :P ( if a forum exists) :PQuote:
Also, I'm more excited about EQnext
From 1 to 10? 4ish. Might change during the testing.
I'm psyched. What Ive seen so far looks interesting. Not knowing the full scope of the game and the dynamics it's hard to get a good gauge on it. It seems like theres new stuff that will make it interesting but also things are the from other MMOs. Understanding that other MMOs are the competition and they have to be able to meet or exceed the aspects of those MMOs to win players over i can understand, from a business perspective. As a player, im fine with some aspects of other MMOs being adopted as long theres enough originality to make it fall in lines with the FF series of games. I wish more was released but to be honest, my opinion is they are on the bottom level of average for information released. So it leaves some to be desired but really cant complain too much.
Made much shorter, I have my hopes up. It looks interesting and like it may be something great, but im also hesitant. I am excited and psyched, but im not holding my breath too much this time around. I just hope they pull it off and make something we can be happy with.
Hate to break this to you, but SE isn't a non-profit doing this to increase world happiness.
They are a business in it for the money.
So people completely have a right to complain about a sub-par product, and most people -have- left.
And if your idea is "well people who don't like it should leave" you will end up with no FFXIV since it will cost more to maintain the servers than the few fanboys sticking around will pay in monthly fees.
You can't call someone an entitled crybaby since this is a game in a CAPITALISTIC MARKET where people are ENTITLED to a product WORTH THEIR MONEY.
Don't like that concept? go to North Korea
Ill be honest I really dont think 2.0 will survive beyond 1 year. I will give it a try but the direction Yoshi is taking the game is not something I am looking forward too. The fact is instead of going above and beyond like SE use to they are just shooting for a standard MMO and we all know there are plenty out there. Some players say this a new generation of MMO's but in fact its not about being the 2nd generation MMO its all about give it to me now, dont wanna work for anything or have competition, it comes down to players just wanting everything NOW, w/o any of the long term goals, w/o any work, these players just want everything handed to them. All in all I am not impressed with what they have done and lets not forget they could have done things much much better.
I am excited!
This game has had its problem but it is the game I choose to play for many reasons. I think prospects for the long-term look good and the fact that there is a 2.0 says there is enough resources and interest available at the dev. level to keep it going strong for years.
Final Fantasy as a brand will stay strong. The story they continue to tell has resonance.
If they can strike a good balance between different types of content and understand that the game will need more interesting battle mechanics and sophisticated side-activities to thrive in the future, then I'm on board.
I had written a big post about the potential for the game to move past its "standard mmo" stage that they're bringing the game to, and the possibility that they'll use that as a starting point and make the game into a proper FF mmo, but I know it'll fall on deaf ears.
Excited about what?
The only thing we know that is confirmed is Jump and a new engine everything else is not confirmed at launch and we have no solid information about it
hell we don't know how they are changing gameplay (for the better) we just know its different
We have no video's of the new content
We still don't know what is the 2nd job they are suppose to be working on for 2.0 (and will probably make it on release)
I am not hyped for 2.0 I am concerned
I hope they take a year to work on this game so it actually comes out "READY"
What I wanted to say, in short:
I'll give in to the fact that maybe they didn't have to go the "easy" route. They could have innovated and made 2.0 something amazing right away. However, I think the key thing they wanted to do was get 2.0 out quickly. So they compromised. By making the new game be a "standard" MMO, they not only lessen their workload a bit, they also make it more inviting to people who don't play the game right now/people who complained about the unusual control scheme we have right now. So, we get a "standard MMO."
What after that? All of these arguments seem to be built on the assumption that Yoshi and Crew will continue down this path of watery content and bog standard stuff. It is, however, just an assumption. What I assume, and what makes more sense in my head, is that after establishing the "standard MMO" base of 2.0, they'll have something they can more easily build off of, giving us something very Final Fantasy-ish. Lay the groundwork first, then innovate.
Granted, I'm also making assumptions, and worst case scenario is this will be just another tour through mediocrity. Personally, I'd rather look at the bright side of things and hope for something more. It's more fun than being negative at least.
Do you honestly think if Yoshi's team releases a flop, SE will give them more money to build expansions?
After one massive failure and millions of dollars in investments, don't you think they will cut-and-run if the game fails?
I'm pretty sure SE is publicly owned (right?) meaning that taking a risk and investing millions more into a game that flopped twice probably won't happen.
But who knows, spirits within happened .... ....... ...... dotdotdotdotdot

And back under my rock. No point responding to anything because it'll devolve into a "I'm right" "No I'm right!" argument, where both sides are basing their entire arguments off of assumptions. You lot can continue being negative and count down the days until the game fails again. Personally, I'm gonna wait and see what happens. Yoshi's got a flying expansion planned for the first one, and I want some airships.
That and musketeer. You hear me SE? Let me shoot things already.
sorry im not tryin to say your wrong. Just trying to think realistically about it. I hope the game does well and succeeds. But i honestly just cant see them investing more if it fails. But its always good to think positively :]
Just as the owner of a company, if i was re-releasing a failed product i would tell the team "make sure its epic at the start to make up for the bad publicity"
Because if ARR comes out and get 4/10 or worse rating, no matter how perfect an expansion is, no one will care.
I agree, I definitely hope the game is amazing enough to succeed. I'm just saying, given their time constraint, maybe they figure what they're building will be successful enough. Give them enough success to continue making the game good, only this time without the insane time crunch of having to build an entire game from scratch. If it does well enough, they can get their funding and continue.
I'll admit I've felt concerned in the past. The quality of the movement animations still bothers me, and I'm a little worried about how fishing will handle, but overall I'm incredibly excited. I also made a vow back when I bought the CE that I'd see this game through to the very end, so maybe it's in my best interest to stay positive.
Also I'm dying for Musketeer... If the game does fail again, I want to at least play that class for a bit first :P.
i'm excited about it but i'm not going in thinking it will succeed i think it will probably fail and be dead in a year. but it's still the mmo i want to play. i hate gw2 not log in for weeks now. tried all the other mmo's and not liked them. this one has at least kept me playing. they will fall flat on there faces like the rest though that keep listening to forum posters over players that leave. yeah they have smart people up in the dev teams that think they know what they are doing but there evilution of mmo's will not work. sell real mmo's and the garbage ones they make now, or fail forevers lol.
hey, yeah, true. however- hate to break this to you, but you're not just butt hurt. you're butt devastated. cry harder though. make this thread another 427 times before official release of the 2.0 client. i'm sure that will change something. crying for the sake of crying. yep, really productive. i'm sure you'll teach them some kind of lesson.
actually, they're redesigning the game *because* people who didn't like it... left. that's the best way to vote- with your dollar. all this crying by you and your ilk is just baseless, bored posturing. so they're doing things the way they're doing them to bring back those players and bring in new blood, while doing what they can to keep around the tiny few who chose to gut it out.
you overly loud crybabies repeating the same idiotic thread over and over again isn't going to destroy their sales. why do you play? why do you post? why do you pay? if you're that unhappy with everything, why are you still here? unfortunately, square is calling your bluff. of all the potential drops in the bucket- yours will be the smallest. your logic is backwards.
then, once again- vote with your dollar. shut up and stop playing. in the meantime i'll feel entitled to relentlessly mock you, and since this is a capitalist market and i pay just as much as you, there's really nothing you can do about it. sorry, sugar.
don't like that concept? go make another inconsequential pathetic moaning thread about it. you will anyway.
