nonono. I WANT that in ffxiv :D. if anything, i want to be able to make it my personal chocobo music. everyone else can have whatever else they want.

XI did zone music right, but most of the battle tracks were pretty bland.
FFXIV is pretty much Uematsu's sound from previous Final Fantasy games. It was literally the most Final Fantasy thing about this game at launch. And people hated it.
Oh well it's not epic and orchestrated and totally symphonic then it's not FF, because FF has always had that. Right?
The only games in the series I can think of that don't have a progressive sound/influence would be....the spin offs. Every other game is influenced by rock in one form or another. Seriously. Even XI and XII.
I like how the music changes when you engage a monster solo or in a group. Its a great idea to implement in ff14
I love the music in both XI and XIV. However, the area music in XI is better and more varied(not to say XIV is bad, it's just the better of the two great soundtracks) and the battle music in XIV is better (feels like an actual final fantasy battle).
I would love the musical elements from XI to be added to XIV because it would make the game's soundtrack even more amazing than it already is. However, don't completely dismiss XIV's soundtrack.
Uematsu barely did anything for the XI ost.
I loved the XI ost, would love to see music similar to it in XIV as well
I think the actual version has worse music than FFXI. But I'm sure that with ARR we'll receive many surprises about it... :D
I agree completely.
I'd even take it a step further and say that subtle changes in the music depending on the area you're in would be really cool. (Akin to the bazaar in skyloft, notice how the music changes depending on the NPC he gets near, but still keeps the same beat.)
FFXIV is more true to Final Fantasy musically than FFXI was. In FFIV and V the battle themes had clear bass guitar, even though they used more classical instruments. There has been a synthesizer present in most of the battle themes to date, including in FFIX, which was more classical overall. This is simply how Uematsu writes, and he did the original score for XIV.
It's my understanding that Naoshi Mizuta is currently on the music team, and he did the majority of XI.
there is music mostly the battle music that has no place in the game sounds way to much like generic rock music, garuda has rock music but that not trying to capture the tone of the enviroment.
Shposhae battle music has music that fits in perfect and happy other areas is using it now and ARR seem to be using it on there gameplay demo they showed.
the music in the zones, boss fights , dungeons, citys, fine.
/cry it sounds like some one lost thier binky lol just mute the game music and play your own or get the ff11 sound track and play that and have it on repeat and you can be happy
Am I the only one that likes having a couple different composers that work together? It makes one place to the next seem so varied.
(not that I dont like unified scores)
Man, nobody likes "electrical guitar blashpehy".
wait what does that even meeeaaannnn
Actually I always thought the FFXI battle music was rather underwhelming, which I guess fits with the endless grinding, but still. I'm not asking for it to be as good as Decisive Battle from FFVI, but it should at least have a good melody that doesn't get old so fast.
As soon as I read FFXI and music the theme for campaign battles popped into my head. For the love of god I just got that out of there. x_x
Personally I think XI music was okay, some was great the rest was just okay. Nothing mind blowing or spectacular like some of the songs found in the offline versions of FF games, perhaps that is something that should be addressed. Thinking back after 5+ years of FFXI I can't recall a single song besides the airship music from FFXI in my mind but I can think back further and remember nearly every other song from an offline Final Fantasy title I have played.
IMHO it is very fitting and amazing, it feels very current and to me very Final Fantasy. See this is where the difference of opinions clash, what I wish they would do is let you go into config and pick from of a list of battle music. Have maybe that song, some new battle songs, and maybe some older songs from other FF games but I imagine with upcoming ability to use mods someone will make a music mod for such occasions.
One thing they need to do is make sure EVERY area has music this time. There were so many areas in FF11 and even some in FF14 that had no music whatsoever. It gets pretty monotonous running through an area for long periods of time and hearing nothing but footsteps.
Just started playing FF11 again after a 5 year hiatus and was still amazed they hadn't put any music in the crag areas or inside dungeon areas after all that time.
mmmm true ture.... so very true... places like the caves and those needed music
I actually love La Noscean battle music. I also love Twilight over Thanalan
I love Nobuo Uematsu and I love that Nail of the Heavens song. The Black Mages were also an amazing band. My opinion is that it fits but I'm also looking forward to what Soken has to bring in ARR. He has some great tracks in this game already :)
music is really important to me. i've loved the music in virtually every FF game up until 13. XI was great and i have a lot of nostalgia for how it was used. with few exceptions (mor dhona, garuda, van darnus, etc) i play xiv with the music off.
that says a lot, imo.
Actually all it says a lot about you and nothing good I might add. The music is actually very good all opinions aside but you have to look at his inspiration for the scores he made. Piss-poor wanna be copy & pasted Final Fantasy which just didn't quite deliver and you expect it to be great? With RPGs the music usually is only as good as the game itself, I can't really ever recall playing a bad RPG that had a good soundtrack. If Uematsu would have had the proper inspiration then we would have easily gotten the mind blowing music we all wanted and expected.
how does it say anything about me aside from having high standards and high expectations? if music in this game is your idea of "very good" i could just as easily turn it around on you and say it says "a lot about you, and nothing good"
good music stands out. just comparing profiles and lodestone histories, i've played this game *quite a lot* more than you. i've experienced *quite a lot more* of the content than you. and none of the music, save for a few of the exceptions i listed, stand out or are at all memorable. you also go on to effectively call the music in XIV boring an uninspired yourself. and yet somehow not enjoying boring, uninspired music says something negative about me? lol get the hell out.
discussing this on these boards is pointless though when people post reworked fan trailers with buttrock like Seether, or cliche joke metal like Nightwish, and everyone raves about how great the musical choice is. if people on these boards know about anything- i can almost assure you that thing isn't music.
just.
saying.
Nice of you to put in my battle tune in there :P. I kind like the open dungeon musicQuote:

plays at these locations I believe Shposhae dungeon Mistbeard Cove / Cassiopeia Hollow / The Mun-Tuy Cellars / The Tam-Tara Deepcroft / Nanawa Mines / Copperbell Mines
also does anyone know if the seamless battle / idle transitions from the instance dungeons like Toto-Rak etc? will be in 2.0 / ARR

I'd be jumping for joy if they just ported the FFXI zone music straight over. Same quality and all. They are great pieces and i love listening to them. I know it wont happen but i want that feeling of great music playing in the background while I'm out hunting or exploring. Also anything from the Black Mages is welcomed.
